I thought I would take some time to explain an issue to my readers. The issue is the death of the Roswell crash as a subject. Many may not be aware of it but Roswell research is dead. I'll explain why.
Roswell research is only as good as it's researchers. If the researchers are discredited then it doesn't matter if there's any truth to the actual subject or not. That's the case with Roswell research.
There are many people investigating Roswell but there have been four big names that the public can identify with Roswell research. Those big four are:
Stanton Friedman (not so much actively investigating)
Kevin Randle (not so much actively investigating)
Donald Schmitt (actively investigating)
Thomas Carey (actively investigating)
The problem is that they are all discredited for various reasons. Stanton Friedman was duped by the MJ12 hoax, which still exists to this day in Ufology with people believing that the MJ12 documents are legit. Tom Carey and Don Schmitt have been discredited for touting an image of what appears to be a mummified child and trying to pass it off as Roswell alien. Kevin Randle is a bit tricky. I asked him in comments whether or not he would distance himself or make a public stance against Tom Carey and Don Schmitt and he never responded. I seriously doubt he would ever do such thing. Recently, he acted to silence any talk of hoaxing or motivations of money regarding this issue in comments on his blog, which, in my opinion, is a clear sign of support for the pair. Kevin has also been criticized in the past regarding his research into Roswell.
What this all boils down to is that Roswell crash research is dead. It has nothing to do with my personal opinions of these men, as they appear to be likable guys. It's just over. There is no credible public face anymore. As far as I can tell, there is no younger person stepping up to the plate and taking over. Such persons would have to start from scratch and that would be extremely difficult since most witnesses are dead. So it's over folks. This is it. It's finished.
There are people who will say that Roswell is like a vampire and that it will rise from the grave in no time flat. I don't think so. We may hear some stories every now and then. Something might pop up from time to time but such would just be death spasms, involuntary movements as the corpse settles.
R.I.P. Roswell. You were a hell of a ride in the late 80s and 90s. Unfortunately every party has to come to an end.

If you really think about it, it's kind of strange NASA's never been back to the moon with a manned mission since the late 1960's. By now many thought with all of our great new technologies we would have had tourist flights to the moon and back. Clearly there was an industry for people who wanted to visit the moon, if not just a flyby trip. Better yet, why not build something on the moon as a stepping stone to other planets? According to a few former NASA employees, there's a good reason why we've never been back to the moon.
According to these excellent videos, the reason why we haven't gone back is because the moon's swarming with scary and aggressive extraterrestrial life forms! It's even alleged in NASA photographs that massive alien bases and structures exist on the moon.

Then there's this recent article on AOL News, "SOME SAY MOON PHOTOS SHOW SIGNS OF ALIEN LIFE":"

The same effect occurred with Apollo 13's third stage which caused the Moon to ring for over three hours. So what's going on with the Moon?
Two Soviet scientists, MIKHAIL VASIN and ALEXANDER SHCHERBAKOV, have spent much of their careers examining the facts compiled on lunar phenomena. Their conclusion is that the Moon is artificial, possibly a hollowed-out planet, and that it was steered from some distant region of the galaxy into a circular orbit around our planet (hence the extraordinary mystery of rock and Moon-dust age variations). They claim that intellectual life has existed in the Moon for eons. - "EARTH'S MOON AND HUMAN EVOLUTION - THE CANADIAN NATIONAL NEWSPAPER"
UFOs imprints on moon from long ago?
Sometimes one can deduce facts from the illogical absence of something, such as why the astronauts haven't gone back to the moon. Everyone knows the moon could have been a lucrative venture for the United States to use for its various experiments and operations. Considering NASA recently announced Mars is the next destination for human travel (See "JOURNEYING TO MARS ON A ONE-WAY TICKET - DISCOVERY NEWS"), you've just got to wonder why the moon's out of the picture.
If one really thinks hard about it, there's just got to be a serious reason why NASA hasn't sent another manned mission to the moon. It's not for lack of technology, practicality or for a lack of anything that could be gained from it. Obviously something very serious has prevented human beings landing on the moon, especially since doing so had great commercial and economical value on earth. All the other countries have also withheld visiting. Some thing's really out there and it doesn't appear they have any sense of humor or we would have been back by now.

I often speak of the importance of transparency in any contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. That concept of transparency refers to how human institutions should share all possible information about extraterrestrials with the public. I'm not speaking of any current situation. I don't believe humans have had contact with extraterrestrials, yet. But there is a flipside to this argument: what expectations do we have for extraterrestrials in regard to transparency? The simple answer is- high expectations.
Transparency is just the latest buzz word for an integral part of human life. Most elements of human society consider honesty and openness to be important and admirable behaviors. They are also behaviors that we often fail to live up to. That's quite the dichotomy and one that visiting aliens might have trouble understanding. Honesty and openness are behaviors that we strive for and yet the gray areas are much more common. It would be tough to explain to extraterrestrials the concept of the white lie. Complete honesty and openness could cause chaos in our daily lives, and yet we hold such behavior in high esteem.
So, if the concept of transparency, tied to the human behaviors of honesty and openness, is so complicated for humans, what hope do we have of communicating this concept to aliens? It's an important consideration. Any direct extraterrestrial contact will likely have an element of fear for humans. The only way to quell that fear is through communication. Extraterrestrials would need to let us know their motives for making contact and make clear their goals for having a relationship with the human race. Honesty is a pretty big part of that communication. How do we trust aliens we know nothing about? One would imagine that their concept of honesty and openness could be quite different from ours- especially when you consider how complicated it is here on Earth.
The situation has been made worse by our colorful imaginations. Books and movies have portrayed so many fearful and disturbing images of alien contact that it would be tough for visiting extraterrestrials to overcome the weight of popular culture. The claims of those humans reporting alien abductions would suddenly need to be reevaluated. Skepticism and caution on our part would require us to take the fears and concerns seriously. We would need honest and upfront communication from aliens. Have they been here before? What previous contact have they had with humans, if any?
Direct First Contact makes one thing easier. If it occurs in the human realm, which I would define as our solar system, it becomes our playing field. Visiting extraterrestrials would need to operate on our terms and work to make us comfortable. If aliens are able to visit our solar system they would be far more technologically advanced. That would put humans and extraterrestrials on unequal footing. The only way to even out the equation is to play by our rules. Our house, our rules.
One would expect visiting extraterrestrials to consider human public relations issues in order to put the best foot forward. Whether or not we believe them is another matter entirely. I suppose that would depend on the quality of their PR plan and the circumstances behind First Contact. A poorly executed First Contact plan could lead to immediate distrust and fear. That wouldn't help anyone.
The next question is whether we humans would be able to uphold honesty and openness in First Contact? If governments, and other institutions, attempt to keep First Contact under wraps, it will send a message to extraterrestrials: we don't really value honesty and openness. We just like to talk about it. Provide us lip service and that will be fine.
Lip service- from aliens or from our government could prove to be disastrous. First Contact would create a huge upheaval in human perspective and have a ripple effect throughout human society. Fear and distrust in humans could hurt the relationship with extraterrestrials and, in turn, hurt human civilization. If we are to truly benefit from extraterrestrial contact, human perceptions of honesty and openness will have to be the goal of humans and aliens alike. Extraterrestrials may not fully understand it and humans may have trouble living up to it, but in the end transparency will be the most important part of the new relationship.

The following UFO story is part one in a series of UFO incidents. It is one of the most famous UFO cover ups ever told.
In early July, 1947 William W. Brazel, a foreman of the Foster Ranch in Lincoln County, near Corona, New Mexico was one of many witnesses to have seen the remnants of the Roswell UFO crash.
A collosal thunderstorm had rocked through the area on the evening of July 2nd or July 4th (there is disagreement on these dates) and lots of lightening was noted. Brazel said that the storm had a different sound than usual and likened it to that of an explosion.
The next morning, Brazel and a neighbour boy, William D. "Dee" Proctor who often accompanied him, went about their day as usual - checking the sheep and riding the fences.
As they rode south of the ranch, they noticed a mass of unusual debris stretching for around a quarter of a mile. Brazel dismounted and began examining the shiny, unfamiliar objects. He collected some and packed them on his horse. Brazel then had to herd the sheep to water, but none of them would go anywhere near the debris and so had to be taken the long way round.
On their arrival back at ranch headquarters, Brazel put his findings in a shed. After his shift, Brazel collected a piece of the debris and took Dee back home. He then showed the metal to Dee's parents, William and Loretta Proctor and tried to convince them to accompany him to the site.
Floyd Proctor said of the metal object. "It wasn't paper because he couldn't cut it with his knife, and the metal was different from anything he had ever seen. He said the designs looked like the kind of stuff you would find on firecracker wrappers...some sort of figures all done up in pastels, but not writing like we would do it."
Loretta Proctor said, "The piece he brought looked like a kind of tan, light-brown plastic...it was very lightweight, like balsa wood. It wasn't a large piece, maybe about four inches long and maybe just larger than a pencil. We cut on it with a knife and would hold a match on it, and it wouldn't burn. We knew it wasn't wood. It was smooth like plastic, it didn't have real sharp corners, kind of like a dowel stick. Kind of dark tan. It didn't have any grain...just smooth. We should have gone [to look at the debris field], but gas and tires were expensive then. We had our own chores, and it would have been twenty miles."
The following evening, Brazel took his findings to Corona where his uncle, Hollis Wilson lived. On his arrival, Brazel was met by his uncle and his uncle's friend who told him of reported UFO sightings the night before. His uncle then advised Brazel to go to the authorities and report the debris site.
The very next day (July 6), Brazel drove to the Chaves County Sheriff's department and reported the incident to Sheriff Georgh Wilcox. After examining the metal, Wilcox called the Roswell Army Air Field and spoke to, Major Jesse A. Marcel. Marcel then informed them he would drive into Roswell and speak to Brazel personally.
On Marcel's arrival at the Sheriff's department, he was was met by Brazel who showed him the debris. Marcel and Brazel then went back to his base and spoke to the base commander, Colonal William H. Blanchard, who told Marcel to go and check out the site.
Marcel was accompanied by Army Intelligence Corps officer, Sheridan Cavitt who both followed Brazel back to the ranch. By the time they reached the ranch headquarters, night was upon them and they decided to wait until daylight before proceeding to the site.
The following morning, all three went to investigate the site. Brazel then went about his duties as Marcel and Cavitt examined the debris. In the meantime Frank Joyce of KGFL had informed his boss, Walt Whitmore Sr about Brazel's report. Whitmore wasted no time in heading out to the ranch where he spoke to Brazel. He then drove Brazel back to his home in Roswell and recorded an interview with him. This interview was never aired.
In the morning Brazel was picked up by the military and taken back to base where he was kept under guard for several days.
On July 8, Brazel gave an interview to the Roswell Daily Record, with military in attendance. His story differed very much from his previous account. This time he stated that the debris was found on June 14 while he was with his son, but they were too busy and ignored it. Then on July 4 he had gone back to the site with his wife and two children, where they had collected some gray rubber strips, tinfoil, heavy paper and sticks. He then said he had discovered weather balloons twice on the ranch, during his time as foreman, but this debris did not resemble anything like he had found before. Brazel said, "I am sure what I found was not any weather observation balloon. But if I find anything else beside a bomb they are going to have a hard time getting me to say anything about it."
Brazel was then escorted out of the Roswell Daily Record by the military who took him back to KGFL. Bystanders said that when Brazel came out of the Daily Record, he seemed subdued and held his head down.
Back at KGFL, Brazel was allowed to enter alone while the military waited outside. Inside, he spoke to Frank Joyce and related the same story he had given at the news office. Some way through, Joyce butted in and asked Brazel why he had changed his story. Joyce said later, that his observation of Brazel was of a nervous disposition and stated that Brazel had answered, "It'll go hard on me."
Brazel was eventually released by the military and from then until his death in 1963, he would not talk about the site and what he had really found, instead he kept to the weather balloon story. He told his children that he was under an oath to keep quiet for the rest of his life.
WHAT DID OTHERS SAY ABOUT THE INCIDENT:
Major Jesse Marcel stated. "When we arrived at the crash site, it was amazing to see the vast amount of area it covered...it scattered over an area of about three quarters of a mile long, I would say, and fairly wide, several hundred feet wide. It was definitely not a weather or tracking device, nor was it any sort of plane or missile. I don't know what it was, but it certainly wasn't anything built by us and it most certainly wasn't any weather balloon. Small beams about three eighths or a half inch square with some sort of hieroglyphics on them that nobody could decipher. These looked something like balsa wood, and were about the same weight, except that they were not wood at all. They were very hard, although flexible, and would not burn at all."
"There was a great deal of an unusual parchment-like substance which was brown in color and extremely strong, and a great number of small pieces of a metal like tinfoil, except that it wasn't tinfoil. I was interested in electronics and kept looking for something that resembled instruments or electronic equipment, but I didn't find anything. Cavitt, I think, found a black, metallic-looking box several inches square. As there was no apparent way to open this, and since it didn't appear to be an instrument package of any sort, we threw it in with the rest of the stuff. It had little numbers with symbols that we had to call hieroglyphics because I could not understand them. They were pink and purple. They looked like they were painted on. I even took my cigarette lighter and tried to burn the material we found, which resembled parchment and balsa, but it would not burn - wouldn't even smoke....the pieces of metal that we brought back were so thin, just like the tinfoil in a pack of cigarettes...you could not tear or cut it either. We even tried making a dent in it with a sixteen-pound sledgehammer, and there was still no dent in it."
Dr. Jesse Marcel Jr. (Marcel's son): "The material was foil-like stuff, very thin, metallic-like but not metal, and very tough. There was also some structural-like material too - beams and so on. Also a quantity of black plastic material which looked organic in nature. Imprinted along the edge of some of the beam remnants were hieroglyphic-type characters."
Apparently, after Marcel had taken a truck load of the debris from the site back to base, Colonal Blanchard gave him orders to load it onto a B-29 and fly to Wright Field, Ohio and to stop off at Carswell AAFB, Fort Worth, Texas on the way.
After Marcel landed at Carswell, the Commander of the 8th Air Force, Brigadier General, Roger Ramey took possession of the aircraft. Marcel was then taken to Ramey's office where the debris had been placed on brown paper. Marcel was then ordered to hold a piece of the debris and was photographed. He was then taken to another room for a while and then asked to return. This time a weather balloon had replaced the debris and weather officer, Irving Newton was standing by its side, who stated that the material was in fact a weather balloon and a Rawin radar target (radar tracking device reflector made of metal foil and balsa sticks). Marcel was photographed with the weather balloon and was then told to go back to Roswel and keep quiet about the debris. However, some years later, when Marcel was interviewed in 1978, he stated that the debris found was nothing like he had ever seen and that it was definitely not a weather balloon.

PART 1
Case and point: A UFO event of mass proportion: a giant Alien spaceship hovering over one of our major cities, threatening our very existence. A scenario from "War of the Worlds, Independence Day," or "The Day the Earth Stood Still"?
NO! it is NOT science fiction, it has ALREADY happened. When? February 25th, 1942 in the Los Angeles area.
Many believe that the "beginning" of the UFO era was in 1947, when Kenneth Arnold sighted flying disc-like objects over Mt. Rainier, coining the phrase "flying saucers." This term was already common military jargon by the time of the Roswell event of the same year.
Preceding these landmark UFO events was the mass sighting of a large flying disc in the Los Angeles area in February 25th, 1942.
Coming at a time of heightened security and anxiety following the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor only a few months before, this invasion would become a major UFO event, and possibly an omen of things to come. In Ufology, this is commonly referred to as:
The Battle of Los Angeles
The early morning hours of 2-25-42 would bring the first alerts of an invasion. Naturally, the first thought in the minds of everyone was that another wave of Japanese planes was attacking America on its own soil. Citizens of Culver City and Santa Monica would be the first to witness the surreal sight of a giant unknown object hovering over the suburban areas of Los Angeles.
Immediately, an air raid siren shattered the peaceful sleep of the residents, and volunteer Air Raid Wardens grabbed their gear, and headed to the streets, affecting a total blackout.
Army's 37th Coast Artillery Brigade swung into action, lighting up the clear, black skies with their massive spotlights. What they saw was beyond belief. With the Japanese planes still flying in their nightmares, another menacing flying machine was now right on top of them.
In a matter of a few short minutes, the entire southern area of California was looking to the skies, watching the intense spotlight beams converging on the giant invading UFO. The 37th's anti-aircraft guns helped light up the night, firing volley after volley at the large craft.
Many eyewitness reports would state that the large object took many direct hits, but appeared undamaged. The 30+ minute barrage would send fragmented shells over homes, businesses, and citizens. In the aftermath six individuals were found dead from the spent and fragmented artillery shells.
It was reported that hundreds upon hundreds of rounds were fired at the giant UFO, yet it appeared unaffected. Eyewitness accounts described the object as a "surreal, hanging, magic lantern." The object was especially visible as it hovered over the MGM studios in Culver City.
There are a number of newspaper articles of this event, and an astonishingly clear picture of the object as it was under its heaviest attack. The object eventually made its way over Long Beach, before it silently disappeared from view. The cannons were now silent.
Some of the most intriguing testimony of the UFO comes from a woman who was a volunteer Air Raid Warden. She lived like many others, in fear of another Japanese attack.
Nothing, however, could prepare her for what she so clearly witnessed the night of the giant UFO. Shaken awake by a call from her supervisor, she was briefed on the situation. Living not far from Santa Monica, she was told the object was close enough for her to see from her window.
Peeking out of her window, she was shocked at the sight of the massive UFO above. She described the sight as follows:
"It was huge! It was just enormous! And it was practically right over my house. I had never seen anything like it in my life!" she said.
"It was just hovering there in the sky and hardly moving at all."
"It was a lovely pale orange and about the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. I could see it perfectly because it was very close. It was big!"
"They sent fighter planes up and I watched them in groups approach it and then turn away. There were shooting at it but it didn't seem to matter."
"It was like the Fourth of July, but much louder. They were firing like crazy but they couldn't touch it."
"I'll never forget what a magnificent sight it was. Just marvelous. And what a gorgeous color!" she said
As the giant UFO moved away, things began to get back to normal, as normal as things could get, considering the times. The military clampdown on Japanese citizens, and security restrictions on its native populace made this an unusual time.
Had it not been for America being at war, news of this event would have gained more momentum. The lesson to be learned from this is simply that we must be ready at all times to defend our country, and our globe from any invading force that would take our freedom as we know it from us.

CHILLY THRONG WATCHES SHELLS BURSTING IN SKY

Explosions stabbing the darkness like tiny bursting stars... Searchlight beams poking long crisscross fingers across the night sky...Yells of wardens and the whistles of police and deputy sheriffs...The brief on-and-off flick of lights, telephone calls, snatches of conversation: 'Get the dirty...' That was Los Angeles under the rumble of gunfire yesterday.
RESIDENTS AWAKENED
Sleepy householders awoke to the dull thud of explosions... "Thunder? Can't be!" Then: "Air Raid! Come here quick! Look over there...those searchlights. They've got something...they are blasting in with anti-aircraft!" Father, mother, children all gathered on the front porch, congregated in small clusters in the blacked out streets -- against orders. Babies cried, dogs barked, doors slammed. But the object in the sky slowly moved on, caught in the center of the lights like the hub of a bicycle wheel surrounded by gleaming spokes.
SPECULATION RIFE
Speculation fell like rain. "It's a whole squadron. No, it's a blimp. It must be because it's moving so slowly. I hear planes. No you don't. That's a truck up the street. Where are the planes then? Dunno. They must be up there though. Wonder why they picked such a clear night for a raid? They're probably from a carrier. Naw, I'll bet they are from a secret air base down south somewhere." Still the firing continued. Like lethal firecrackers, the anti-aircraft rounds blasted above, below, seemingly right on the target fixed in the tenacious beams. Other shots fell short, exploding halfway up the long climb. Tracers sparked upward like roman candles. Metal fell. It fell in chunks, large and small; not enemy metal, but the whistling fragments of bursting ack-ack shells. The menacing thud and clank on streets and roof tops drove many spectators to shelter.

WARDENS DO GOOD JOB
Wardens were on the job, doing a good job of it. "Turn off your lights, please. Pull over to the curb and stop. Don't use your telephone. Take shelter. Take shelter." On every street brief glares of hooded flashlights cut the darkness, warning creeping drivers to stop. Police watched at main intersections. Sirens wailed enroute to and from blackout accidents. There came lulls in the firing. The search lights went out. (To allow the fighter planes to attack?). Angelinos breathed deeply and said, "I guess it's all over." But before they could tell their neighbors good night, the guns were blasting again, sighting up the long blue beams of the lights.
WATCHERS SHIVER
The fire seemed to burst in rings all around the target. But the eager watchers, shivering in the early morning cold, weren't rewarded by the sight of a falling plane. Nor were there any bombs dropped. "Maybe it's just a test," someone remarked. "Test, hell!" was the answer. "You don't throw that much metal in the air unless you're fixing on knocking something down." Still the firing continued, muttering angrily off toward the west like a distant thunderstorm. Army Says Alarm Real Roaring Guns Mark Blackout

Identity of Aircraft Veiled in Mystery; No Bombs Dropped and No Enemy Craft Hit; Civilians Reports Seeing Planes and Balloon
Overshadowing a nation-wide maelstrom of rumors and conflicting reports, the Army's Western Defense Command insisted that Los Angeles' early morning blackout and anti-aircraft action were the result of unidentified aircraft sighted over the beach area. In two official statements, issued while Secretary of the Navy Knox in Washington was attributing the activity to a false alarm and "jittery nerves," the command in San Francisco confirmed and reconfirmed the presence over the Southland of unidentified planes. Relayed by the Southern California sector office in Pasadena, the second statement read: "The aircraft which caused the blackout in the Los Angeles area for several hours this a.m. have not been identified." Insistence from official quarters that the alarm was real came as hundreds of thousands of citizens who heard and saw the activity spread countless varying stories of the episode. The spectacular anti-aircraft barrage came after the 14th Interceptor Command ordered the blackout when strange craft were reported over the coastline. Powerful searchlights from countless stations stabbed the sky with brilliant probing fingers while anti-aircraft batteries dotted the heavens with beautiful, if sinister, orange bursts of shrapnel.
City Blacked Out For Hours
The city was blacked out from 2:25 to 7:21 am after an earlier yellow alert at 7:18 pm was called off at 10:23 pm. The blackout was in effect from here to the Mexican border and inland to the San Joaquin Valley. No bombs were dropped and no airplanes shot down and, miraculously in terms of the tons of missiles hurled aloft, only two persons were reported wounded by falling shell fragments. Countless thousands of Southland residents, many of whom were late to work because of the traffic tie-up during the blackout, rubbed their eyes sleepily yesterday and agreed that regardless of the question of how "real" the air raid alarm may have been, it was "a great show" and "well worth losing a few hours' sleep." The blackout was not without its casualties, however. A State Guardsman died of a heart attack while driving an ammunition truck, heart failure also accounted for the death of an air raid warden on duty, a woman was killed in a car-truck collision in Arcadia, and a Long Beach policeman was killed in a traffic crash enroute to duty. Much of the firing appeared to come from the vicinity of aircraft plants along the coastal area of Santa Monica, Inglewood, Southwest Los Angeles, and Long Beach.

I'm a WWII veteran. Just thought I'd let you know that I was an eyewitness to the event back in February of 1942. I was 14 at the time, living in the Adams and Crenshaw area of Los Angeles. My family and I observed the entire episode through the large bay window of our home facing west.
The air raid sirens awoke us at 2 AM. There was a period of silence following that, then the thumping of antiaircraft fire. The northwest sky was lit up with bursting shells and searchlights. The action was moving south along the coastline. I remember distinctly the convergence of searchlights reflecting off the bottom of some kind of slow moving objects, apparently flying in formation. They seemed to be completely oblivious and impervious to the shells exploding around them.
I was quite the aviation buff back then, as I am now, but I must admit that I had a devil of a time trying to identify the objects, what with the awe, excitement and speculation of the moment, the bursting shells, tracers, etc. I was surprised in the days that followed to discover that with all that aggressive firepower there was no evidence that we had brought anything down.
I lived on Virginia Road, a half block south of West Adams Boulevard and one-quarter mile south of what is now the Interstate 10 Santa Monica Freeway; about 5.5 miles southwest of what is now the Los Angeles Civic Center; and approximately 10.5 miles due east of the Pacific coastline of Santa Monica.
We were looking in a westward direction from our large living room bay window which gave us an unobstructed panorama of view facing the northwest, west and southwest. We then went to our south-facing kitchen and porch windows to observe the action where it culminated in the south. Ergo, the action followed the coastline.
It could have been two, or three, or up to six miles away, I can't recall exactly since it occurred so long ago. But I strongly remember the searchlights converging on the bottoms of the reddish objects flying in formation

I was an eye-witness to the events of that unforgettable February morning in February of 1942. I was eight-years-old at the time, and my parents lived at 2500 Strand in Hermosa Beach, right on the beach. We thus had a grandstand seat. While my father went about his air-raid warden duties, my late mother and I watched the glowing object, which was caught in the glare of searchlights from both Palos Verdes and Malibu/Pacific/Palisades and surrounded by the puffs of ineffectual anti-aircraft fire, as it slowly flew across the ocean from northwest to southeast.
It headed inland over Redondo Beach, a couple of miles to the south of our vantage point, and eventually disappeared over the eastern end of the Palos Verdes hills, what's today called Rancho Palos Verdes. The whole incident last, at least from our perspective, lasted about half an hour, though we didn't time it.
Like other kids in the neighborhood, I spend the next morning picking up of pieces of shrapnel on the beach; indeed, it's a wonder more people weren't injured by the stuff, as we were far from the only folks standing outside watching the action.
In any case, I don't recall seeing any truly discernable configuration, just a small, glowing, slight lozenge-shaped blob light-a single, blob, BTW. We only saw one object, not several as some witnesses later reported. At the time, we were convinced that it was a "Jap" reconnaissance plane, and that L.A. might be due for a major air-raid in the near future.
Remember, this was less than three months after Pearl Harbor. But that of course never happened. Later on, we all expected "them," that is, the Military, to tell us what was really up there after the war. But that never happened, either...
