The set of ideas I will start presenting in this post will turn into a 'series' even though I said I would not do a series while I was doing my thoughts and story on reincarnation. There are two reasons I have changed my mind yet once again on doing series. I feel that my research into reincarnation and the isssues that surround it will last for a very long time-the quality of comments I am getting are always leading towards new ways of thinking. I also think that some of the subjects I want to present touch on the issue of reincarnation itself in some ways as I feel this one does, although that might not seem obvious at first.
The ideas that I want to get into here relate to the 'fabric' of reality, the universe and will by the end touch on some things previously mentioned at MFM as to the nature of the soul. In modern physics there has been much speculation about where our universe came from and if there might be other universes and even if there are universes which do not obey the same physical laws as ours, have different dimensionality and atomic particles. In this first post I will try to get into some of the major ideas modern scientists are thinking about. I do not believe as I have stated before that the question of why there is something rather than nothing has been answered and may never be answered. Of necessity we are going to leapfrog this question and talk about modern research where there is very serious speculation that there are multiple universes and even infinite numbers of them. The first type of multi-verse to talk about is one that obeys our physical laws and has the same dimensions of space. Most modern astronomers believe that our universe began in a vast explosion of a primordial cosmic fireball-the Big Bang. For the purpose of this set of posts we will not get into whether this theory is correct or not-just into some of the intriguing speculation that comes with it. When modern astrophysics talks about the Big Bang, the theory works best when it is supposed that in the first infintesimally small slices of time (it would be inappropriate to even use miliseconds here-I have seen levels of time discussed as small as 10 to the "negative" 43rd power-thats a heckuva small amount of time) the universe underwent a period of extreme "inflation". The size of the universe expanded exponentially and keeps on going to this day, some research suggests that the universal rate of expansion is accelerating.
This led some theorists to suppose that space may be infinite-and why not? It has always seemed to me that if we have something at all, maybe the only background that can explain this are philosophies and scientific theories that suggest infinite space and eternal time. The ideas that I am going to immediately talk about only need space to be infinite and the distribution of matter sufficiently uniform on all scales. After you reach certain immense distances, as we are dealing with infinity here, you would eventually come to another area in this expansion (scientists call them Hubble Volumes after the famous astronomer Edwin Hubble who discovered the expansion of the universe), where you would have an area of space with the exact same likeness and history as 'our' area of space. This has even been calculated by astrophysicist Max Tegmark to be 10 to the 10th to the 29th power measured in meters-that is an incredibly huge distance and there is no way theoretically 'our' area and 'their' area could ever be in communication. What this means from a philosophical standpoint is truly incredible. It means that even the most unlikely events must take place somwhere and sometime. I find this very interesting when thinking about certain paranormal phenomena. It also means there are an infinite number of inhabited planets. This would include an infinite number of planets with infinitely many people with the same likeness, name and histories as "you"! In fact in this theory there are infinitely many regions that are the same size as our whole observable universe where "every" possible universal history and timeline occurs.
This does pose some incredibly deep philosphical questions. If there are infinitely many copies of 'you' with identical histories and the like-'you' could still not compute your exact future even if you had complete knowledge of all these other universes-because all of the 'yous' feel that they are the origin, the real you and each of their lives will begin to differ eventually so the best that a person could do even if they had all this information is predict probabilities. This kills the idea of determinism. In some of my pondering on the nature of the soul and reincarnation I also thought that the possibility of an infinite number of 'yous' posed some very interesting questions, many people who read this can probably think of a few of their own! In a very real sense in this situation would your soul ever really die-in the most complete sense? Once you have an infinity of space to play with and an eternity of time things get strange indeed. A very fascinating scientific proof has been shown that cosmic inflation can produce an infinity of multiverses even in a bubble (Hubble Volume) of finite size and a flat universe with finite volume and the topology of a torus is equivalent to a periodic universe with infinite volume! If you think that some of the ideas talked about in this post are strange-just wait until the topics in the next post -or two posts if it is required. In some of the 'strangest' scientific thoughts and theories I think it is extremely intriguing that these theories are the ones where the science and what we observe in our reality 'works'.

The new MUFON Journal has arrived, so there's lots to write about today.
First of all, for security purposes, I have been assigned an official MUFON I.D #. It's not clear to me yet whether I can disclose this number, but I can give you a hint: the digits add up to 23. Which, if you recall from one of my earlier posts ("Posh Spice, E.T." August 2, 2011), has an enigma associated with it. I don't know about you, but I think enigmas are kind of puzzling and inexplicable, and I find it troubling that the MUFON folks have dragged me into the whole thing. Still, having an official secret I.D. # is cool, so I'm not going to make a big deal about it.
Looking inside the Journal (which, by the way, you can't access online if you don't have a secret MUFON I.D. #, which, by the way, I do), this item jumped out at me from the editor's column: "Before the end of this year, MUFON will have a new Field Investigator Manual and a new test to take to become a Field Investigator." This is shattering news... I'd been planning to order the Field Investigator Manual soon, so that I could study up and take the Chicago-area Field Investigator Examination in September. Now I'm looking at at least three or four months more of amateur field investigating, and, as rewarding as that can be (see my last post), I'm not entirely comfortable with the "one mere human vs. the aliens" dynamic, especially when I'm the one mere human.
On the plus side, the editor does go on to say that both the new manual and the new test will be "much more user-friendly for new field investigators." Translation: "Too many people were failing the exam, so we made it even easier." No complaints here, although I have to wonder whether lowering the bar is such a good idea. On further reflection, this seems like a prescription for disaster to me. Won't this just embolden E.T.? Is this any better than the "one mere human" scenario? I'll tell you one thing: I sure will be interested to meet my fellow graduates... assuming we all graduate... which, of course, we will.
Further into the Journal, I find the welcome news that Bigfoot investigators may have found new reasons to work closely with UFO Field Investigators. Since my brother is a Bigfoot fan, this can only bring my family closer together.
I'd say more about Bigfoot, but I skipped that article to get right to the real meat of the issue: a six-page feature offering a digest of recently-investigated UFO encounters. I was curious to see whether any other recent sightings are similar to my family's (they are), and whether I could pick up any tricks from the Field Investigators who filed the reports (the jury's out). Good reading all-in-all, with one curious detail: the most unspectacular cases get the longest write-ups, while the strangest occurrences get very little attention at all. Why does a ho-hum story about a woman watching three lights over the horizon get almost a full page of copy, while a barn-burner about a man who awakes to find strange little people in his bedroom gets one scant column? Especially when the guy who had aliens in his bedroom also reports that his father was a UFO abductee? I find this enigmatic. Also puzzling and inexplicable.

And now the Ministry of Defence has revealed its latest batch of reports from people claiming a close encounter in the UK.
The sightings only go up to 2009, as that was the year the 'British X-Files' desk was closed.
Spookily, that year also saw a trebling in the frequency of UFO reports, the newly declassified files show.

More than 600 alien experiences were reported to the MoD's UFO hotline, more than double the previous year and three times the usual number, according to the papers released by the National Archives.
The files from 2007 to 2009 reveal several of bizarre reports of encounters with extraterrestrials, including a man who claimed he lived with an alien, UFO sightings near the Houses of Parliament and Stonehenge, and a man whose dog and tent were abducted.
They also reveal the claim by one man to have developed a weapon to shoot down UFOs.
Some experts say there was a simple, non-sinister reason why the number of sightings soared in the hotline's final year of operation - a rise in popularity of Chinese lanterns being released at weddings and other events.
There were 643 reports in 2009, up from around 100 to 200 a year between 2000 and 2007.

It was the second highest number of reports recorded by the MoD, beaten only by the 750 sightings in 1978 - the year Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was released in UK cinemas.
Another peak had occurred in the mid-1990s, when the US TV show The X-Files was at the height of its popularity.
Dr David Clarke, author of the book The UFO Files based on earlier MoD data, said: 'There are many reasons why the number of reports trebled in 2009.
'Many of the sighting accounts - such as formations of orange lights moving slowly across the sky - describe the appearance of Chinese lanterns even though people did not recognise them at the time.'

The first description of a UFO was from a sighting made in US in 1947, although Met Office reports a quarter of a century earlier had included data on unexplained phenomena.
In 1952, Prime Minister Winston Churchill took the issue so seriously that he ordered reports of sightings to be kept secret to avoid public panic.
But during its 50 years of collecting and investigating reports, the UFO desk and hotline uncovered no evidence to indicate the existence of 'any military threat to the UK'.

The files reveal that one person phoned the hotline to report twice seeing UFOs hovering over the Houses of Parliament in London in February 2008.
He described 'green, red and white lights' that remained still in the sky for an hour and a half.
Another sent an email to report seeing 'discoid' shapes in photographs of Stonehenge taken two years previously.
'I didn't see anything in the sky at the time. Upon uploading them to my computer, though, I spotted the discoid shapes in the background.'
Another email said photographs of Blackpool Pier taken in October 2008 showed aircraft that had not been visible at the time. The UFO desk investigated and an official said two of the objects 'look like stunt kites' and the third 'looks like a seagull head-on'.
The MoD axed the department - which had no US equivalent and which by 2009 had only one officer - because it served 'no defence purpose' and was diverting resources from 'more valuable defence-related activities', the files reveal.
There were also fears that its existence encouraged spurious UFO reports.
When the announcement of the closure was made, MoD officials predicted a backlash from ufologists convinced that the truth was still out there.
Many wrote to the Queen, Prime Minister Gordon Brown and ministers to demand sightings were investigated.

And the little girl who asked for the truth...A young girl wrote to the UFO desk about aliens saying she had seen 'little air crafts' in the sky.
She continued: 'Please tell me what the truth is I've a right to know', the files reveal.
The letter the child sent included a picture of an extraterrestrial in a spaceship waving and asked whether there is life on other planets.
The MoD replied thanking the writer, from Altrincham, near Manchester, for the letter and sent some RAF 'goodies'.

The schoolgirl's letter reads: 'To Mr/Mrs. Please tell me if living things live out side our planet. I would like to now [sic] because me and my father have seen little air crafted [sic] in the sky.
'And my father have seen 2 little light dancing around each other.
'Please send me a letter telling me the answer.'
The MoD wrote back to her saying: 'Thank you for your letter asking if there is life outside our planet.
'It's an interesting question and we remain totally open-minded about it, but we don't know of any evidence to prove life exists in outer space.
'We do look at reports of "unidentified flying objects" but only to see if the country's airspace might have been affected but we haven't had any evidence of this so far.
'I am enclosing some RAF goodies that I thought you might like.'

The gesture seemed fitting, given the nature of the excavation; while other experts have speculated that Stonehenge was a prehistoric observatory or a royal burial ground, Darvill and Wainwright are intent on proving it was primarily a sacred place of healing, where the sick came to be cured and the injured and infirm restored.Darvill and Wainwright's theory rests, almost literally, on bluestones-unexceptional igneous rocks, such as dolerite and rhyolite-so called because they take on a bluish hue when wet or cut. Over the centuries, legends have endowed these stones with mystical properties. The British poet Layamon, inspired by the folkloric accounts of 12th-century cleric Gfrey of Monmouth, wrote in A.D. 1215:The stones are great; And magic power they have; Men that are sick; Fare to that stone; And they wash that stone; And with that water bathe away their sickness. We now know that Stonehenge was in the making for at least 400 years. The first phase, built around 3000 B.C., was a simple circular earthwork enclosure similar to many "henges" (sacred enclosures typically comprising a circular bank and a ditch) found throughout the British Isles. Around 2800 B.C., timber posts were erected within the enclosure. Again, such posts are not unusual-Woodhenge, for example, which once consisted of tall posts arranged in a series of six concentric oval rings, lies only a few miles to the east.Archaeologists have long believed that Stonehenge began to take on its modern form two centuries later, when large stones were brought to the site in the third and final stage of its construction. The first to be put in place were the 80 or so bluestones, which were arranged in a double circle with an entrance facing northeast. "Their arrival is when Stonehenge was transformed from a quite ordinary and typical monument into something unusual," says Andrew Fitzpatrick of Wessex Archaeology, a nonprofit organization based in Salisbury.The importance of the bluestones is underscored by the immense effort involved in moving them a long distance-some were as long as ten feet and weighed four tons. Geological studies in the 1920s determined that they came from the Preseli Mountains in southwest Wales, 140 miles from Stonehenge. Some geologists have argued that glaciers moved the stones, but most experts now believe that humans undertook the momentous task.The most likely route would have required traversing some 250 miles-with the stones floated on rafts, then pulled overland by teams of men and oxen or rolled on logs-along the south coast of Wales, crossing the Avon River near Bristol and then heading southeast to the Salisbury Plain. Alternatively, the stones may have come by boat around Land's End and along the south coast of England before heading upriver and finally overland to Stonehenge. Whatever the route and method, the immensity of the undertaking-requiring thousands of man-hours and sophisticated logistics-has convinced Darvill and Wainwright that the bluestones must have been considered extraordinary. After all, Stonehenge's sarsens-enormous blocks of hard sandstone used to build the towering trilithons-were quarried and collected from the Marlborough Downs a mere 20 miles to the north.The two men have spent the last six years surveying the Preseli Mountains, trying to ascertain why Neolithic people might have believed the stones had mystical properties. Most were quarried at a site known as Carn Menyn, a series of rocky outcrops of white-spotted dolerite. "It's a very special area," says Wainwright, himself a Welshman. "Approaching Carn Menyn from the south you go up and up, then all of a sudden you see this rampart composed of natural pillars of stone." Clearly, Carn Menyn inspired the ancients. Gors Fawr, a collection of 16 upright bluestones arranged in a circle, sits at the bottom of a Carn Menyn hill.But Darvill and Wainwright say the real turning point came in 2006, when the pair looked beyond Carn Menyn's rock formations and began studying some springs around the base of the crags, many of which had been altered to create "enhanced springheads"-natural spouts had been dammed up with short walls to create pools where the water emerged from the rock. More important, some of the springheads were adorned with prehistoric art."This is very unusual," says Wainwright. "You get springs that have funny things done to them in the Roman and Iron Age periods, but to see it done in the prehistoric period is rare, so we knew we were on to something." In his history of Britain, Gfrey of Monmouth noted that the medicinal powers of Stonehenge's stones were stimulated by pouring water over them for the sick to bathe in. Indeed, many of the springs and wells in southwest Wales are still believed to have healing powers and are used in this way by local adherents to traditional practices. As Wainwright recalls, "The pieces of the puzzle came together when Tim and I looked at each other and said, 'It's got to be about healing.'"Once the archaeologists concluded that the ancients had endowed the Carn Menyn rocks with mystical properties, "franchising" them to Stonehenge made sense. "Its intrinsic power would seem to be locked into the material from which it was made and, short of visiting Carn Menyn, which might not have been always feasible, the next best step would have been to create a shrine from the powerful substance, the stone from Carn Menyn itself," says Timothy Insoll, an archaeologist at the University of Manchester. He has documented similar behavior in northern Ghana, where boulders from the Tonna'ab earth shrine-similarly invested with curative properties-have been taken to affiliated shrines at new locations.Evidence that people made healing pilgrimages to Stonehenge also comes from human remains found in the area, most spectacularly from the richest Neolithic grave ever found in the British Isles. It belonged to the "Amesbury Archer"-a man between 35 and 45 years old who was buried about five miles from Stonehenge between 2400 and 2200 B.C. with nearly 100 possessions, including an impressive collection of flint arrowheads, copper knives and gold earrings.The bones of the Amesbury Archer tell a story of a sick, injured traveler coming to Stonehenge from as far away as the Swiss or German Alps. The Archer's kneecap was infected and he suffered from an abscessed tooth so nasty that it had destroyed part of his jawbone. He would have been desperate for relief, says Wessex Archaeology's Jacqueline McKinley.Just 15 feet from where the Amesbury Archer was buried, archaeologists discovered another set of human remains, these of a younger man perhaps 20 to 25 years old. Bone abnormalities shared by both men suggest they could have been related -a father aided by his son, perhaps. In part, this is because of the reluctance of English Heritage, the site's custodian, to permit excavations. Current chronologies are based largely on excavations done in the 1920s, buttressed by work done in the '50s and '60s. "But none of these excavations were particularly well recorded," says Mike Pitts, editor of "British Archaeology" and one of the few people to have led excavations at Stonehenge in recent decades. "We are still unsure of the detail of the chronology and nature of the various structures that once stood on the site."To strengthen their case for Stonehenge as a prehistoric Lourdes, Darvill and Wainwright needed to establish that chronology with greater certainty. Establishing the timing of Stonehenge's construction could also shed light on what made this site so special: with so many henges across Britain, why was this one chosen to receive the benedictions of the bluestones? This event took place in the summer of 1983 when I was 16 years old. I was spending the summer with my grandparents John and Shirley Olson, who worked for a Log Home manufacturing company in Noel, MO. They lived on the property as caretakers and grandpa worked in the manufacturing facility as well. One evening late, I believe that it was mid to late July, I was preparing for bed. I was staying in a small fifth-wheel tow behind camper which was parked just behind and north of the main office building. Across the next lot was a two story Log Home that the owners had built as a Model of what they could offer. As I lay down I was looking out the window up at the stars a light caught my attention from the top of the hill to the east of where I was. To my amazement I could see what I will call a UFO as I do not know what it was.. It glided down the hill to the bottom and crossed the road, South Kings Hwy, and in between the owners Model Home and the camper where I was. The owners were away in Nacogdoches TX, where they had another branch of their log home business. I had a full, unobstructed view of the craft for roughly a full minute as it made its way down the hill and past the house and camper. The object was of a cylinder shape, with a cone on top and flat bottom. The object glided down in a vertical position just above the trees. The cone was lit up from what I can only describe as the inside and the cylinder was black with lighted stripes going around it vertically at about every 3 to 4 feet. It was smaller than the house in height and perhaps 20 feet in diameter. There was no landing gear visible and the bottom was flat and lighted like the cone. The craft hovered silently off of the ground at no more than 4 feet, if that, after it reached the bottom of the hill and crossed the road. At the top of the hill it was about 1000ft away and at it's closest was less than 100ft in distance. As it passed I spun in my bed, now facing west to watch the craft go by the manufacturing facility and cross the Railroad tracks and out of sight.
