There is a basic difference between this blog and much of what you will find regarding this subject on the Internet. I do not believe that extraterrestrials have been in contact with anyone on Earth thus far. I do not believe stories of Alien abduction. Regarding UFOs, there is always a chance that some extraterrestrial craft may have been spotted in the Earth atmosphere, but I think for the most part UFOs are a natural or manmade phenomenon.
There is no evidence that there is any extraterrestrial civilization in the universe. We could be quite alone. Science and logic tells us that even if there are other sentient beings in the universe, the chances of them being able to travel here to say hello are rather minute.
So why do I even bother writing all of this?
Well, first of all it's fun. I love "what ifs" and this is one of the biggest "what ifs" of all. I take one simple premise and try to figure out what might happen. The premise is that extraterrestrials, who have never contacted anyone on Earth previously, decide that now is the time for Direct First Contact. How would they realistically do it? How would we react? What are the dangers? What would the future hold for us as a civilization?
Direct First Contact of this type is not a question of science. It is a question of communication. I have no scientific expertise. I am trained as a communicator. What you read in this blog comes from a communications perspective. I grew up in a scientific household. I understand how much scientists resent wild speculation with no basis in fact, and no respect for the scientific process. I also know that scientists often enjoy science fiction, they love the "what ifs". This blog is basically science fiction, just without the drama and characters.
I must correct myself here. When I say that First Contact is not a question of science, I mean the action is not a question of the physical sciences. First Contact does have everything to do with the social sciences. Communication theory, politics, history and sociology all play a part. Psychology is another scientific field that has close correlation to First Contact. The physical sciences will be hugely changed by First Contact, but it is the social sciences that will come into play first. First Contact is simply a study of how the introduction between extraterrestrials and humans might occur and the profound reactions it would cause in human civilization.
I believe that First Contact should not occur between extraterrestrials and any national government on Earth. First Contact needs to be the start of a conversation between extraterrestrial beings and all humans. It needs to be a hello for the entire world. Ultimately some group will need to coordinate the continuing conversation and that needs to be the United Nations. It is a weak body that needs much improvement, but it is the only group that comes close to representing the entire planet.
Modern systems of communication can be leveraged to achieve First Contact. We have the technology and information networks in place currently. The proposal I make regarding First Contact utilizes the actions and reactions that automatically occur each and every day in the communications systems on this planet. The interconnected media is a powerful tool. If used correctly it can provide a quick and effective means of First Contact. I could be very wrong. Perhaps there is some vast Alien conspiracy involving secret government contact that has been hidden from us for many years. However the realities of human interaction cause me to very much doubt that such conspiracies could be maintained for a week, or a month, let alone years.

The recent attention paid to an account of the alleged U.S. investigation, apprehension, interrogation and "deportation" of a human-looking extraterrestrial reflects changing perspectives on such possible situations.
Referred to as "Operation TANGO-SIERRA" in recent online accounts, in 1980 U.S. defense and intelligence agents reportedly intervened in the ongoing contact between the extraterrestrial and a federal employee that had begun in 1977.
The initial source for this report is allegedly one of a handful of current and former Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) officials who for the last several years have been releasing information about U.S. government activities involving extraterrestrial contact.
The DIA source put a researcher and educator, Victor Martinez, in touch with another source from an unnamed government agency. Martinez then passed the report on via e-mail to a large list of researchers, current and former government officials, and others. These same current or former DIA officials had reportedly followed similar procedures leading up to the release of information in late 2005 about an exchange program between the U.S. and a friendly extraterrestrial race of beings.
The program, which reportedly began in the early 1960s, sent 12 carefully selected and trained U.S. military personnel to the home planet of these extraterrestrials for a planned ten-year stay. The effort, referred to in the releases as "Project SERPO," may have been the basis for part of Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".
Are reports about Operation TANGO-SIERRA and Project SERPO true? Are they partially accurate mixed with inaccurate information? Are they completely untrue? It is possible that there are truths "between the lines," though the details might be altered or even untrue.
The broad concepts about UFOs, extraterrestrial visitation and U.S. government engagement in the situation may, though, be truthful. What general messages can be taken from these two accounts?
It seems that some of the main themes are: ETs and possibly other anomalous intelligences are here on Earth, certain U.S. government elements have been actively involved for quite a while and the situation is complex, sensitive and challenging.
In addition, the wider public may have a "need to know" through a gradual, safe and steady process of information, communication, education and acclimation.

If you have read any of my cryptozoological books (particularly "WILDMAN" and "THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WOODS") you'll know that one particular area that fascinates me is Castle Ring, an Iron Age hill-fort on the fringes of Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, England.
To say that Castle Ring is a weird place is an understatement, as it has been the site of all manner of odd encounters with bizarre beasts, ghostly entities and UFOs.

UFO SIGHTING IN OCEAN VIEW, DELAWARE ON AUGUST 17TH 2004 - WITNESSED LITES IN SKY
lights were shining through my windows about 11 at night,so i went out to see what it was. i saw 2 pure white lights in the sky,one much bigger than the other moving slowly across the sky.i went inside to find my camera but could not,so i went back outside.now there were 3 lights-1 big 2 smaller. one smaller was moving west in the opposite direction. the other small one was goig nuts circling & zig-zagging around the bigger one.about that time i heared a jet comming from the southeast,cause the objects made no noise.i thought this should be good! all of a sudden a flash came from the jet & went towards the two lights. the two took off out to sea,they were almost out of site anyway cause of trees,but the other one,going west took off,but not like a shot,but was out of site in seconds. the only thing left was the jet going out to sea.i said to myself what the hell did i just see! this is the first time i told anybody but a couple of freinds-cause the thought i was nuts, but i knw what i saw.

I was traveling North on I-17 in Sunrise, Florida. As I was approaching the 4 story Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership on my right, I first noticed 4 red/orange lights above the left side of the road. The lights were about 50 ft. above the ground. The lights were in the exact shape of the left half of an octagon. About 2 seconds later as I was still driving North, I noticed 3 of the same red/orange lights on the right hand side of the road. This group of the red/orange lights outlined the shape of a large triangle and it was hovering/descending south. The triangle formation was lower in altitude compared to the first formation. I drove right under the triangle formation as it was moving over my car.
