Evidence of UFO encounters through mankind's history -- from prehistoric cave paintings, to Medieval frescoes, to Renaissance art that depict strange objects in the sky.
While technically a UFO refers to any unidentified flying object, in modern popular culture the term UFO has generally become synonymous with alien spacecraft;however, the term ETV (ExtraTerrestrial Vehicle) is sometimes used to separate this explanation of UFOs from totally earthbound explanations.
Proponents argue that because these objects appear to be technological and not natural phenomena and are alleged to display flight characteristics or have shapes seemingly unknown to conventional technology, the conclusion is that they must not be from Earth. Though UFO sightings have occurred throughout recorded history, modern interest in them dates from World War II (see foo fighter), further fueled in the late 1940s by Kenneth Arnold's report of a close encounter, which led to coining of the term flying saucer, and the Roswell UFO incident. Since then governments have investigated UFO reports, often from a military perspective, and UFO researchers have investigated, written about, and created organizations devoted to the subject. One such investigation, the UK's Project Condign, made public in 2006, attributed unaccountable UFO sightings to a hitherto unknown and scientifically unexplained "plasma field." It also concluded that Russian, former Soviet Republics, and Chinese authorities had made a co-ordinated effort to understand the UFO phenomenon and that military organizations, particularly in Russia, had done "considerably more work (than is evident from open sources)" on military applications stemming from their UFO research. The report also noted that "several aircraft have been destroyed and at least four pilots have been killed 'chasing UFOs'."
UFOs are sometimes an element of conspiracy theories in which governments are allegedly intentionally "covering up" the existence of aliens by removing physical evidence of their presence, or even collaborating with extraterrestrial beings. There are many versions of this story; some are exclusive, while others overlap with various other conspiracy theories.
In the U.S., an opinion poll conducted in 1997 suggested that 80% of Americans believed the U.S. government was withholding such information. Various notables have also expressed such views. Some examples are astronauts Gordon Cooper and Edgar Mitchell, Senator Barry Goldwater, Vice Admiral Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter (the first CIA director), Lord Hill-Norton (former British Chief of Defense Staff and NATO head), the 1999 French COMETA study by various French generals and aerospace experts, and Yves Sillard (former director of CNES, new director of French UFO research organization GEIPAN).
It has also been suggested by a few paranormal authors that all or most human technology and culture is based on extraterrestrial contact.

JudyL picked #8 for June's UFO Arouse. i was anxious....it was a quilt that was in pieces in a bag. i had pieced the 4 patches but that is all. portray was distant to do. i deliberate switching it for contemporary one..... but, NO....that would honestly put off the disturb. so i dug in and pieced and pieced precise bonus. and quilted. and existing is the turf out.It's a 4 base posey via black and pinks. i don't peer it as distant as i did because i started it. i calculate approximately that is why they thread up being UFOs. SHORT UFO FACT: [A classic UFO event that has all but been forgotten is the Chiles-Whitted sighting which unfolded over Montgomery, Alabama on July 24 1948. As a now silent member of your group, I'm writing out of respect to
your originating vision for this group.
I joined p4c some time ago because of a sincere desire to learn what I
could about what was known about extraterrestrials. Other than to receive your
occasional emails, I've long since stopped paying attention to the p4c group list
for the very reason you just brought up. Endless unfounded debate, bickering and
members taking each other to task for one assertion or another, one view or another.
And my original reason for joining, getting genuine first hand
information, even better, remarks by your learned self, seemed to be scarce to non-existent.
I have since found more objective, information oriented forums. The temptation to post pure
opinion or just vent is pretty overwhelming at times with almost anyone and has shown up in
almost all open forums on sensitive subjects.
After trying many, the only set up I wish to participate with now are more heavily moderated.
I'm not much interested in opinion, unless it is from someone extremely educated or
experienced in the area. I prefer venus where people are encouraged to post
their first hand experiences and impressions of it, and no posting of opinion or response to it other
than to ask clarifying questions are allowed. In other words, where submissions are limited to
genuine testimonies and questions/clarifications about that, period. The only other submissions
allowed would be from those with some baseline expert status engaged in comparative studies of
these testimonies who willing to post their objective reports of their analyses.

ASTANA - Kazakhstan is attempting to be the first nation to publicly welcome extraterrestrial visitors!
According to Express K, a Kazakh newspaper, the Republic of Kazakhstan is preparing to build the world's first UFO base and alien embassy. It is being reported that the government has allocated a large portion of land near the city of Almaty for the project. The plans include a UFO landing pad, guesthouse and translation service. How the translation program will be created was not made clear.
Ufologists are applauding the government, which openly believes that contact with extraterrestrials is inevitable and is attempting to establish the nation as forward-thinking. Others are criticizing the project as being an obvious tourism ploy.
So why Kazakhstan, of all places? It has long been rumored that an underwater UFO base exists in the Derbent Hollow of the Caspian Sea, which sits on Kazakhstan's border. This has even been confirmed by the head of neighboring Azerbaijan's national Aerospace Agency, Fuad Gasimov, who worked for the old USSR science academy while they were secretly monitoring UFO activity.
According to a Baku Sun newspaper article published in 2002, Gasimov said the Soviet organization charted UFOs. "The organization sent an expedition to Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, where they discovered UFOs bases around the Nardaran and Pirshagi districts and around the Siyazan water spring. The entrances to these bases, he says, are found deep underground."
Will these visitors come out of the dark and begin publicly visiting Kazakhstan? Or is this all just a publicity ploy?

This mysterious black orb shaped UFO has been caught hovering above California 2015, the eyewitness has stated that this object hovering motionless and that it just suddenly disappeared.

"I take many sky photos from my property since i've captured strange things in the past. After taking a ton of photos i noticed what appeared to be a bird in the sky in a north west direction. I took a quick photo and as i lowered the camera it seemed to disappear in a puff.
It was dark in color so i figured it was just a bird and i just lost site of it. I didn't think to much of it at the time till i loaded the photos on my laptop and zoomed in on it. I was only able to find one shot of it and i took quite a few shots in that direction. I pretty sure my first impression that it disappeared was right. I personally have caught photo after photo of orbs and other strange things in the sky."

Image #1 - The Sojourner rover and undeployed ramps onboard the Mars Pathfinder spacecraft can be seen in in this image, by the Imager for Mars Pathfinder (IMP) on July 4 (Sol 1). This image has been corrected for the curvature created by parallax. The microrover Sojourner is latched to the petal, and has not yet been deployed. The ramps are a pair of deployable metal reels which will provide a track for the rover as it slowly rolls off the lander, over the spacecraft's deflated airbags, and onto the surface of Mars. Pathfinder scientists will use this image to determine whether it is safe to deploy the ramps. One or both of the ramps will be unfurled, and then scientists will decide whether the rover will use either the forward or backward ramp for its descent.

Portions of a lander petal are at the lower part of the image. At the left, the mechanism for the high-
gain antenna can be seen. The dark area along the right side of the image represents a portion of the
low-gain antenna. The radiation calibration target is at the right. The calibration target is made up
of a number of materials with well-characterized colors. The known colors of the calibration
targets allow scientists to determine the true colors of the rocks and soils of Mars. Three bulls-eye
rings provide a wide range of brightness for the camera, similar to a photographers grayscale
chart. In the middle of the bulls-eye is a 5-inch tall post that casts a shadow, which is distorted in
this image due to its location with respect to the lander camera. A large rock is located at the near center of the image. Smaller rocks and areas of soil are strewn
across the Martian terrain up to the horizon line.
Image #3 - This image of the Martian surface was taken by the Imager for Mars Pathfinder (IMP) before sunset on July 4 (Sol 1), the spacecraft's first day on Mars. The airbags have been partially retracted, and portions the petal holding the undeployed rover Sojourner can be seen at lower left.
The rock in the center of the image may be a future target for chemical analysis. The soil in the foreground has been disturbed by the movement of the airbags as they retracted.

January 2012 is nearly a thing of the past. Seems just days ago we were bringing in the New Year. Okay enough... I've got both UFOs for January done. With days yet to spare...imagine that!I got this one done today. It is part of Jo's Country Junction Quilt Square Quilt Along for 2012. Not really a UFO I suppose...but it will be if I don't finish each month. Lori Smith designs these blocks. Each pattern comes with six different 12" square designs. For January we were to make the log cabin from her Quilt Squares #1 pattern. I'll be linking in tomorrow along with finding out what's next month's assignment. I plan to assemble all 12 blocks at the end of the year into a sampler. I also was able to finish "Kindhearted Klues". This one is from a workshop I took at Road to California last weekend. Tracey Brookshier led 32 of us on through the night with Lakeside Mystery 1. The binding will be more of the stripe that I used for the inner boarder.Next up is "Komplikated" that happens to be a 2011 UFO that's been waiting its turn. I have all the blocks done its just waiting for assembly. Now that my January deadlines are complete this one is next. ONE OF THE ADVANTAGES OF THE DATA OF THE MUFON REPORTING SYSTEM IS KNOWING WHEN THE UFO SIGHTING OCCURRED. THIS MORNING I LOOK AT TWO REPORTS YESTERDAY OF THE SEEMINGLY GROWING IN POPULARITY `BOOMERANG SHAPE' UFO. THE REPORTS WERE NOT CLOSE IN PROXIMITY OF LOCATION - SHARING SIMPLY THE ASTROLOGICAL CALENDAR DATE SYSTEM OF 1/31/13. (THAT NUMBER SEQUENCE HAS A CERTAIN RING TO IT.)ANYWAY - HERE'S THE CRUX OF EACH REPORT - FOLLOWED BY MY COMMENTARY: THE FIRST ONE WAS REPORTED TO MUFON THIS MORNING OF WHAT I ASSUME WAS AN EVENT LAST EVENING IN LAS VEGAS - WITH THE SIGHTING BY TWO BUDDIES DRIVING AND RIDING IN A CAR. The cam seems to have photos that change every few minutes instead of actual video. This camera turns into infrared at night, which can reveal cloaked ships. The human eye cannot pick up light in the infrared spectrum so only the digital IR cameras can see it. I watched and for the last two days this UFO hovers over the neighborhood. I reported a similar UFO over italy on cam last year and within a few days that UFO stopped showing up. It's very likely that aliens do monitor our internet for information of them being detected or the knowledge we gain about them. Take a look at the cam link and tell us what your thoughts are about it please. SCWIn the below screenshot, you can see a disk-like cloud in about the same position as the UFO is at night. An article was posted on collective-evolution.com almost a year ago about the 24hr UFO observatory in Norway. I am excited to know that an official 24hr UFO observatory exists and real data is being collected by university scientists.
The Hessdalen Interactive Observatory, located in Norway, began in 1983 to study the unexplained light phenomena that was occurring in the area. When the observatory first began, 20 mysterious, flying, lights were being spotted per week. Over the years the sightings have decreased to only 20 lights per year. At the observatory, scientists from the University of Ostfold, Hessdalen, Norway, have captured and documented these light anomalies. It's the only official 24 hour UFO observatory in the world. Radar and cameras have tracked and filmed numerous unexplainable events. The fastest flying light was recorded at 30,000 km per hour.
In September 2007, a major survey was carried out by university scientists and students with a number of observation instruments. After observing the area over four nights, an unexplained light performed a series of decorative movements up close. It became known as the "Hessdalen phenomenon." Examples of this event are shown in the video below.

UFO SIGHTING IN GLEN BURNIE, MARYLAND ON JANUARY 30TH 2011 - DARK COLORED ORB TYPE OBJECTSunday Jan 30 2011 @ 16:30, Upon arriving at my in-laws home in Glen Burnie I took a photo of the front of their home. The picture was downloaded and saved to a hard drive. Recently while reorganizing many of the pictures I viewed this one and noted a single dark colored orb or disk with a blue aura around it. The object seemed to be at some distance away perhaps over a thousand ft maybe more at approximately a 40 deg angle. Its dimensions are unknown but appears to be fairly small in diameter maybe ~6 ft. Since this is a discovery based upon a photo it is unknown what direction or altitude it came from or changed to. I'm Very Certain It was not dirt on the lens or a bird or other normal aerial object. It is similar in shape and color to other objects posted as UFO's. Hallelujah, the MUFON Field Investigator's Manual has arrived, all 300 pages of it! It's got everything an eager young wannabe UFO field investigator could dream of, right down to the "Animal Mutilation Cases" reporting form! It's really more of a three-ring binder than an actual book.I spent some time over the weekend flipping through the Manual, and I have scarcely scratched the surface of its sublime wonders. Of course it seems to be rife with inconsistencies and contradictions, but I've come to expect that, and, in truth, it just adds to the charm. Consider this: on page 31, in the section on Media Policy Guidelines, the up-and-coming UFO Field Investigator is advised not to mention "paranormal or metaphysical" phenomenon when doing media appearances or interviews, because it is "nonproductive." The Manual goes on to say that "...an impression of inextricable ties between UFO research and other esoteric pursuits serves to confuse the audience and erode the UFO researcher's credibility." In other words, I eroded my credibility last week in my radio interview when I fielded a question about the local Wisconsin werewolf, The Beast of Bray Road... Oops.But if that's the case, why then does the Manual go on, a mere ten pages later, to launch into a UFO sighting categorization scheme that includes this: "AN1 are anomalies with associated entities. This class could include reports of ghosts, yetis, and other instances of cryptozoology as well as elves and spirits."What the...? I can't talk about a werewolf but I can talk about a yeti?What if I get called out to investigate a UFO sighting that involves both a werewolf and a yeti? It could happen. I think I saw it in a SyFy Channel Original Movie once.Basically, I'd be screwed. If I filed an honest and truthful report, my credibility would erode so fast MUFON wouldn't even trust me to run out for coffee and doughnuts. So I would have no choice but to omit any mention of the werewolf and make it all about the yeti, but how could I live with myself then?I suspect that this may be MUFON's devious little version of the Kobayashi Maru test...
