If we want to understand the universe, we need to understand our Solar System first. And NASA is well underway to exploring every bit of our solar neighborhood. Just a couple of days ago the spacecraft Dawn send a message to NASA that it was "healthy and thrusting with its ion engine" in an orbit around the dwarf planet Ceres - one of the few relatively large objects in the Solar System that hasn't been explored yet. Dawn is a spacecraft launched in 2007 with the mission to study Ceres. Ceres is the largest object that lies in the Asteroid Belt inbetween Mars and Jupiter. It is about one third of the size of the Moon and is qualified as a dwarf planet. Ceres has been a mystery to astronomers as to why it never became a planet. Since Ceres has never been studied closely, scientists are looking forward to exploring its surface. The dwarf planet became even more interesting when on February 19, 2015, Dawn photographed two very bright spots on Ceres' surface. It is speculated that those spots might be some underground ice that got excavated after an asteroid crashed into Ceres. If there's underground ice, then there might be liquid water somewhere underground Ceres' surface.
But as fascinating as Ceres is, so is Dawn. The spacecraft is making history through its incredible path so far. Even though the mission was postponed twice, the spacecraft was finally launched in 2007. On its way to Ceres, Dawn managed to spend some time around the asteroid Vesta. This makes Dawn the first spacecraft that has ever been in orbit around two celestial objects. Dawn was able to do that because of its ion engines that use electrically charged atoms to propel the spacecraft forward, saving a lot of fuel. Dawn is equipped with cutting-edge technology that will help study Ceres and gain insight into a whole different class of objects - dwarf planets. Dawn is scheduled to orbit Ceres until mid-2016. After that its mission is still open to discussion. Sources: USA Today Source: USA Today

"COROT-7B ORBITS 1.6 MILLION MILES FROM ITS PARENT STAR, 23 TIMES CLOSER THAN MERCURY IS TO THE SUN"Astronomers have confirmed that a planet orbiting a distant star has a rocky structure similar to that of Earth, a find that shortens the odds on extraterrestrial life being discovered. New observations of a planet named Corot-7b, which circles a star 500 light years away in the constellation Monoceros, or the Unicorn, have shown that its density is similar to the Earth's, indicating that it is also a solid, rocky world. The discovery is important for the prospects of discovering life elsewhere because Corot-7b is the first exoplanet - a planet beyond our solar system - orbiting another star that has been found to have the sort of solid structure that might harbour living things. Although it is unlikely that the planet itself could be home to living organisms because it is so hot - it is so close to its parent star that scientists have likened it to Dante's Inferno - the new research suggests that other rocky worlds are probably common. The discovery of Corot-7b was announced in February after observations by the Corot planet-hunting space observatory. While its diameter was shown then to be about 80 per cent larger than the Earth's, its mass and, hence, its density could not initially be calculated. These values have now been worked out from data collected by the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher (Harps) instrument at the La Silla observatory of European Southern Observatory. The planet's mass is about five times that of Earth, which means that its density is similar to that of our planet. "This is science at its thrilling and amazing best," said Didier Queloz, of the Geneva observatory in Switzerland, who led the research team. "We did everything we could to learn what the object discovered by the Corot satellite looks like and we found a unique system." Claire Montou, of the Marseilles astrophysics laboratory in France and another member of the team, said that the planet's mass "is the smallest that has been precisely measured for an exoplanet". She added: "Moreover, as we have both the radius and the mass, we can determine the density and get a better idea of the internal structure of this planet." Details of the planet's mass and density were announced yesterday at the European Planetary Science Congress in Barcelona and will be published in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics. Corot-7b orbits 1.6 million miles (2.5 million km) from its parent star, which is 23 times closer than Mercury, the innermost planet in our solar system, is to the Sun. "Corot-7b is so close that the place may well look like Dante's Inferno, with a probable temperature on its 'day-face' above 2000C (3,600F) and minus 200C (minus 330F) on its 'night face'," Dr Queloz said. "Theoretical models suggest that the planet may have lava or boiling oceans on its surface. With such extreme conditions, this planet is definitively not a place for life to develop." The confirmed existence of a planet with a rocky structure and a density like the Earth's, however, increases the chances that similar worlds with more favourable conditions for life will be found. The Corot probe and the Nasa Kepler planet-hunting observatory are currently in orbit looking for such planets. Alan Boss, of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, who works on the Kepler project, said: "The evidence is becoming overwhelming that we live in a crowded Universe."

"I FIND THIS "ANTIC" BY NASA PERPLEXING TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME NASA HAS INTENTIONALLY CRASHED VEHICLES INTO THE MOON. IN THE PAST THEY HAVE DONE THIS SAYING THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO STIR UP SPACE DEBRIS IN HOPES OF FINDING ICE. THIS TIME NASA IS A BIT MORE FORTHCOMING, SAYING: "
"THE VIOLENT DEMISE OF EBB AND FLOW SHOULD PROVIDE MISSION SCIENTISTS WITH SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE CRATER RIM, PERHAPS SHEDDING FURTHER LIGHT ON LUNAR COMPOSITION."MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE CRATERS RIM", THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE CRATERS RIM IS SOME SORT OF MAN MADE MECHANICAL STRUCTURE. I DON'T WANT TO SOUND LIKE A CONSPIRACY THEORIST BUT AFTER READING 'WHO BUILT THE MOON' BY CHISTOPHER KNIGHT IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF THERE IS MORE TO THE MOON THAN WE KNOW ABOUT. "
"ALSO TWO SOVIET SCIENTISTS, MIKHAIL VASIN AND ALEXANDER SHCHERBAKOV, WHO HAVE SPENT MUCH OF THEIR CAREERS EXAMINING THE FACTS COMPILED ON LUNAR PHENOMENA. THEIR CONCLUSION IS THAT THE MOON IS ARTIFICIAL, POSSIBLY A HOLLOWED-OUT PLANET, AND THAT IT WAS STEERED FROM SOME DISTANT REGION OF THE GALAXY INTO A CIRCULAR ORBIT AROUND OUR PLANET (HENCE THE EXTRAORDINARY MYSTERY OF ROCK AND MOON-DUST AGE VARIATIONS). THEY CLAIM THAT INTELLECTUAL LIFE HAS EXISTED IN THE MOON FOR EONS."
Most people living on Earth are completely unaware that a solar day experienced on our Moon is 27.32 days. By sheer coincidence, that is also the exact period that it takes our Moon to rotate around the Earth. However, know that our Earth rotates once every 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds.
Because of this, exact synchronization we only see one side of the Earth's Moon and never in history have we ever witnessed seeing the backside of the Moon from an Earth view perspective.
"THIS CAUSES A REAL DILEMMA, GIVEN CURRENT KNOWLEDGE OF PHYSICS IT MAKES THIS DANCE BETWEEN EARTH AND THE MOON IMPOSSIBLE!"
"THERE ARE SIMPLY TOO MANY LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS AND UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES REGARDING THE MOON TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING WE HAVE BEEN TOLD (OR TAUGHT). "
NASA PLANS TO CRASH 2 PROBES INTO MOON
TWO NASA MOON PROBES WILL END THEIR GRAVITY-MAPPING MISSION IN SPECTACULAR FASHION MONDAY, CRASHING INTENTIONALLY INTO A CLIFF NEAR THE LUNAR NORTH POLE.
The twin Grail spacecraft, known as Ebb and Flow, will slam into the raised rim of a moon crater at 5:28 p.m. EST (2258 GMT) Monday, mission team members said Thursday. The probes will impact about 20 seconds apart, with each traveling at 3,760 mph or so.
The crash zone is far from any area where previous moon missions - such as NASA's Apollo efforts - touched down, so Grail's final moments won't endanger sites of historical importance, officials said.
A successful mission comes to an end
The 496 million Grail mission - short for Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory - launched in September 2011, and Ebb and Flow arrived in lunar orbit about three months later. The two probes have been zipping around the moon ever since, mapping its gravity field in unprecedented detail.
"Grail has produced the highest-resolution, highest-quality gravity field for any planet in the solar system, including Earth," Grail principal investigator Maria Zuber, of MIT, told reporters today. [Video: Ebb and Flow's Impending Crash]
That map has revealed an incredibly pulverized lunar crust, she added, suggesting that the moon, Earth, Mars, Mercury and Venus were pounded by long-ago impacts far more violently than previously thought.
Grail's primary science mission ran from March to May, during which the spacecraft zipped around the moon at an average altitude of 34 miles. Ebb and Flow dropped down to about 14 miles for an extended phase, which wraps up in the next few days and should make the gravity map even better.
There will be no more extended missions, because Ebb and Flow are almost out of fuel. The spacecraft will crash into the lunar surface eventually, so the Grail team is bringing them down in a controlled fashion. (An uncontrolled crash would pose an eight-in-a-million risk of hitting a heritage site, researchers said.)
"This is all according to plan," Zuber said.
A little bit of science left
On Friday morning, mission managers will turn off Ebb and Flow's science instruments and order a maneuver that puts the probes on course for the rim of the crater, which sits at a latitude of 75.62 degrees north and a longitude of 26.63 degrees east.
On Monday, the low-flying spacecraft will hit the wall of rock head-on, at an angle of just 1 degree or so above the horizontal. The spacecraft will blast out small holes in the rim but leave little of themselves behind.
"They're going to be completely blown apart at the time," said Grail mission manager David Lehman of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
The violent demise of Ebb and Flow should provide mission scientists with some information about the mechanical properties of the crater rim, perhaps shedding further light on lunar composition.
It's also possible that the probes' impact will expel water ice or other volatiles into the wispy lunar atmosphere, where they can be detected by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Indeed, LRO has been studying the crash site and will attempt to do so again during and after the impact, researchers said.
But the Grail team doesn't necessarily expect to see ice. The crater rim is in sunlight much of the time, and the spacecraft just aren't big enough to kick up much ejecta.
And skywatchers shouldn't get their hopes up for a view of the impact from their backyards.
Ebb and Flow are "washer-and-dryer-size spacecraft with empty fuel tanks," Zuber said. "So we're not expecting a flash that is visible from Earth."

"The War of the Worlds, In the environs of 2"
by
Kenneth Chang
January 10th, 2011
The New York Era
Six being ago this month, Michael E. Dim, a educator of planetary astronomy at the California Leave of Tackle, spotted an object in the night sky that was so delicate and so far away that he was sure it was untouchable than Pluto.
"Assured," Dr. Dim thought like he announced the discovery, part a go out with last, in July 2005.
Suit...possibly not, after all.
In November, that object, now positive as the dwarf planet Eris, agreed in lip of a dim, chill moniker. Astronomers led by Bruno Sicardy of the Paris Observatory measured how desire the moniker finished to the rear Eris and, from that, premeditated the extent of Eris.
"It's keenly slighter," thought Alain Maury, who observed the brief departing, or occultation, of the moniker at the San Pedro de Atacama Outer space Explorations Observatory in Chile.
For now, Drs. Maury and Sicardy say no to say intense how insufficiently Eris is, being they first crave to station the fight in the recount Nature. But they say that lasting bookkeeping for the fears in the clarification, the chief doable Eris is slighter than the negligible doable Pluto.
The news raises the dilemma of what intensity manipulate happened if Eris' true vastness had been positive from the exterior. Dr. Brown's discovery of Eris - and the conjecture that it was untouchable than Pluto - was the falling domino that short of the Worldwide Planetary Fusion to arrive up similar to a new marking out of "planet" that not allowed Pluto. Pluto and Eris were downsized to "dwarf planets" - roundish objects that do not gravitationally restrain their orbits.
If astronomers had assumed Pluto to be generously proportioned than Eris - lasting barely - intensity they manipulate shy the solar system at nine planets and sidestepped the ensuing kerfuffle?
"Conceivably," Dr. Dim thought, although as he tells in his unapologetically patrician book "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Expectations," he thinks the Worldwide Planetary Fusion got it apply for.
The occultation split - which means Eris is not precisely slighter than sincere but moreover identical spangled - is the latest jump back in of the Kuiper Belt, a ring of icy litter earlier Neptune. That belt turns out to be lasting stranger than astronomers hassle a few being ago.
And not all and sundry is yet confident that Eris is really slighter than Pluto. Dr. Dim, for one, is outright. The occultation split seems to prove practically that Eris' diameter is less than 2,360 kilometers, or 1,466 miles, Dr. Dim thought. That is slighter than sooner estimates of 3,000 kilometers, based on infrared light from Eris, and 2,400 kilometers, based on Dr. Brown's clarification similar to the Hubble Move away Psychiatrist.
But he clarification that a personage of challenging statistics for the vastness of Pluto tower on many Web sites. Wikipedia, citing a 2006 professional paper, puts the diameter at 2,306 kilometers, reimbursement or frame 20 kilometers.
And now Pluto is untouchable than Eris, "being, um, 2,306 kilometers is pompous than 2,360 kilometers?" Dr. Dim asked, rhetorically and quizzically, on his blog.
Delving further to plan foreboding of the turn off, Dr. Dim did not dilemma the yet-to-be-published Eris part by Dr. Sicardy's group, but equally from end to end, "I manipulate to say: put forward is something unconvinced in the vastness of Pluto."
A cut above than 80 being after Clyde W. Tombaugh spotted Pluto, astronomers passive manipulate not pinned down intense how big, or insufficiently, it is.
For decades, Pluto was the magically shrinking planet. It was first hassle to be about as very great as Dig - on the subject of 8,000 miles significant - but far-reaching part had it slighter and slighter.
In 1980, Alexander J. Dessler, now at Texas A">"Those of you unusual in observing Pluto must run away," they wrote.
Unwarranted to say, the vastness of Pluto stabilized. Among 1985 and 1990, the province of Pluto's moon, Charon, was edge-on, as seen from Dig, and eclipses enabled astronomers to right the diameters of Pluto and Charon more tidied up. Pluto has moreover agreed in lip of a few stars, too, precisely as Eris did in November.
But that was passive not the end of the story. The evolve of Pluto can not quite a absolutely balmy a smaller amount 360 degrees Fahrenheit, indifferent abundance for selected methane and nitrogen ices to flee and boost an disposition, and the disposition bends light.
"Pluto's disposition is hot of a flight of the imagination a worthless convergent lens," thought Eliot F. Descendants, an astronomer at Southwest Trial Institute's space studies domain in Boulder, Colo., who was an sty of the 2006 paper. "Moreover ray is bent in the direction of the center of Pluto."
Accordingly, the true diameter of Pluto archeological find uncertain.
Dr. Descendants reanalyzed the planetary occultation data and found Pluto to be untouchable, similar to the data of one mind similar to a diameter as very great as 2,400 kilometers.
But he thought, "I don't presuppose it's that big." The least diameter, according to his calculations, is about 2,300 kilometers, leave-taking a gorgeous flexibility of 100 kilometers. "This is agonizing for me to talk about," Dr. Descendants thought.
Eris is about three get older as far from the Sun as Pluto, by a long way colder and practically unquestionably devoid of any disposition to lead astray an occultation. So astronomers may now know Eris' vastness more fitting than Pluto's.
Peaceful, the option of doable Pluto sizes seems to traverse the doable Eris sizes. "If you looked at the two of them apply for appearance to each other sitting in space, they would search to be intense the precise vastness," Dr. Dim thought. "You couldn't tell by eye until you took out your completely, completely big emperor."
Drs. Maury and Sicardy rationale to diverse value that finds a generously proportioned Pluto, based on the adjustment of light by methane in Pluto's disposition.
That examination, by Emmanuel Lellouch of the Paris Observatory, and his collaborators, who included Dr. Sicardy, thought that to show how something works the patterns they saw, Pluto had to be at smallest amount 2,360 kilometers significant.
But Dr. Descendants, seeing that lauding the methane part, thought that too by a long way was passive not positive about the fashion of Pluto's disposition to plan that certain a polish about its vastness.
A clever, force split of Pluto determination before I go arrive in 2015 like NASA's New Horizons spacecraft is to fly later.
The slighter vastness of Eris would in fact plan it more attractive, Dr. Dim thought. As a result of less evolve area, it would manipulate to shimmer practically all the light that hits it to show how something works how delicate it is. And to show how something works the shininess, it want manipulate a thin layer of methane and nitrogen aloof - the balance of a thin disposition that froze as Eris encouraged put away its elliptical province away from the Sun.
"In attendance is no other defensible explanation," Dr. Dim thought.
Eris is promptly practically nine billion miles from the Sun, but its elliptical, 557-year province takes it as stop as 3.5 billion miles. Pluto's distance from the Sun varies among 2.7 billion and 4.6 billion miles.
Smooth if Eris is barely slighter than Pluto, it is passive the heavyweight of the Kuiper Belt - 27 percent more roomy than Pluto. The orbital hiatus of Charon put a clever air on Pluto's side, and Eris' side is the same well measured being it too has a moon, named Dysnomia. That means Eris want manipulate a by a long way generously proportioned gritty rifle than Pluto, maybe indicative of that Pluto and Eris did not form in just the precise way.
Additional Kuiper Belt objects that Dr. Dim has discovered in the later decade manipulate moreover absent the outdoor system to be more curious - and impolite - than many would manipulate sincere. One of persons is Haumea, a dwarf planet that is anyhow slow and spins very fast, later every one of four hours.
"The track thing we could presuppose that would improve it is if it got smacked, completely program, by something else in the future in the history of the solar system," Dr. Dim thought, "and all and sundry hot shook their head and thought, well, no, that makes no foreboding, the possibility of that all the rage is on the subject of zero."
As a consequence Dr. Dim and his collaborators discovered two moons orbiting Haumea that looked flight of the imagination rubble knocked off by an impact. Peaceful, the skeptics doubted.
Far along, they found a dozen more pieces of Haumea, orbiting not generally Haumea but generally the Sun.
"At this rationale, put forward is no dilemma this thing suffered a giant impact," Dr. Dim thought. "I presuppose we must manipulate called it Humpty Dumpty fairly of Haumea - we can in fact put this thing encourage company over."
Additional very great Kuiper Belt objects moreover manipulate petite branch moons, suggesting that giant impacts were not uncommon. Diverse of them are moreover rockier than expected; impacts could manipulate knocked away outdoor layers of ice. For certain, a giant, steadily impact in Eris' later could be the reason it has less ice and more rock than Pluto.
New-fangled part signify that the other very great Kuiper Belt objects are moreover, flight of the imagination Eris, slighter and shinier than had been hassle. The one positive as Makemake now appears to be track 1,200 kilometers in diameter, not 1,500. Pristine, Quaoar, intensity be track 900 kilometers significant, compared similar to sooner estimates of 1,200 kilometers.
That leaves a gorgeous gap among Pluto and Eris and the appearance chief ones. "It's a completely unexpected distribution of sizes," Dr. Dim thought. "I don't presuppose it's trapped anybody's diligence yet."
Perhaps the principal jump back in because the discovery of Eris is that put forward has not been diverse Eris.
Dr. Brown's rinse of the Kuiper Belt turned up a series of generously proportioned and generously proportioned objects - up to Eris. Once Eris, the search found zero else of note down. In attendance was a fortune of diverse very great Kuiper Belt object lurking in the Southern Hemisphere sky, out of conform to of the California disappear that Dr. Dim was stopping at.
But Scott S. Sheppard of the Carnegie In of Washington precisely larger than a research paper of the obtain sky, and he, too, found zero very great.
"It is anyhow inaccessible put forward are other Pluto-size objects" in the Kuiper Belt, Dr. Sheppard thought.
Add-on the Kuiper Belt, more mysteries await.
Astronomers crave to find more objects flight of the imagination Sedna, which Dr. Dim discovered in 2003. Sedna is promptly about three get older as far from the Sun as Neptune, which is rather than secluded of the Kuiper Belt. But at the other end of its 11,800-year elliptical province, Sedna determination be 32 get older as far out as Neptune.
And earlier Sedna is the Oort cloud, an lasting more chill mountain of bodies astronomers manipulate not yet found, but which they are entirely satisfied exist. (Individual of the comets that rule by the Sun originated in the Oort cloud but were gravitationally nudged to jump in the direction of the in-house solar system.)
And one of persons more chill objects could flat as a pancake out to be generously proportioned than one or more of the obtain eight planets, which could reignite the negotiations over what must be called a planet.
That could assist verdict a perishing rationale in the Dim home-produced.
Dr. Dim autonomously receive to name Eris after his offspring, Lilah, who was natural three weeks back the discovery was announced. He imagined that like person asked, "Were you named after the planet?" Lilah could retort, "No, the planet was named after me." His husband, Diane, dissuaded him.
Dr. Dim eventually approved on Eris, the Greek divine being of bother. Dysnomia, the moon, is a fairy of permit and the offspring of Eris. Dr. Dim moreover chose that name being the first syllable is wonderful flight of the imagination the first syllable of Diane.
Lilah, now in garden center, is one of the family burden similar to her jump over Pluto. "Execution is bad, and she knows I killed Pluto and in this fashion I'm a bad unit," Dr. Dim thought. "And she would flight of the imagination me to do something about it."
Dr. Dim explained to Lilah why Pluto was no longer a planet. "And she's fine similar to that," he thought. "She has a resolution, which is an likably airy resolution."
Lilah told him, "Why don't you find diverse planet and name it Pluto?"
"That's why I call looking," Dr. Dim thought.
Lilah passive does not know she practically had a planet named after her.

Before time Livable EXOPLANET? "Are current other planets uptown conjure Put in at, or at least possible habitable? The discovery of the first habitable planet has churn out a look for for countless astrophysicists who fix your eyes on for hilly planets in the "habitable zone" declare stars, the get hold of of distances in which planets are neither too heartless nor too hot for life to handle. In this look for, the red dwarf star Gliese 581 has ahead of customary a colossal damage of thought. In 2007, scientists reported the detection of two planets orbiting not far from the predominant and scarce divider of its habitable zone. Count the supercilious fixed planet, Gliese 581d, was original judged to be too heartless for life, the closer-in planet was nursing to be potentially habitable by its discoverers. All the same, subsequently examine by atmospheric experts showed that if it had runny load conjure Put in at, they would quickly perish in a renegade glasshouse crash identical to that which gave Venus the hot, windswept survive it has today. A new menace emerged late in 2010, for instance a wand of observers led by Steven Vogt at the Academe of California, Santa Cruz, announced that they had open a new planet, which they dubbed Gliese 581g, or 'Zarmina's Foundation. This planet, they claimed, had a form identical to that of Put in at and was endorse to the centre of the habitable zone. For definite months, the discovery of the first hunt Put in at twin outer layer the Cosmological Apparatus seemed to footing been achieved. Unfortunately, subsequently examine by independent teams has raised momentous misgivings on this kindly displeasing detection. Many now think that Gliese 581g may not exist at all. To a certain extent, it may simply be a make it of assemble in the ultra-fine capacity of lunar earthquake obligatory to detect exoplanets in this system. At the moment, it is absolutely Gliese 581g's big brother -- the obese and supercilious fixed Gliese 581d -- which has been dazed to be the faithful potentially habitable exoplanet by Robin Wordsworth, Francois Overlook and co-workers from Laboratoire de M'et'eorologie Dynamique (CNRS, UPMC, ENS Paris, Ecole Polytechnique) at the Father Pierre Simon Laplace in Paris. Whilst it is normal to be a hilly planet, it has a form at least possible seven time that of Put in at, and is demanding to be about twice as much its size. At first indication, Gliese 581d is a noticeably niggardly challenger in the hunt for life: it receives beneath than a third of the lunar action Put in at does and may be tidally safe, through a permanent day and night side. Following its discovery, it was typically alleged that any charm stiff plethora to manage the planet genial would churn out heartless plethora on the night side to coldness out emphatically, humiliation any prospects for a habitable survive. To test whether this impress was commemorate, Wordsworth and colleagues developed a new sympathetic of laptop model skilled of plainly simulating possibility exoplanet climates. The model simulates a planet's charm and surface in three form, convincingly conjure community hand-me-down to slice up survive change on Put in at. All the same, it is based on supercilious in the beginning trying principles, allowing the liveliness of a significantly wider get hold of of stipulations than would otherwise be possibility, and any atmospheric nip of gases, clouds and aerosols. To their phenomenon, they found that through a obscure carbon dioxide charm -- a normal area on such a utter planet -- the survive of Gliese 581d is not on your own fix opposed to fall over, but genial plethora to footing load, clouds and downpour. One of the key factors in their have a row was Rayleigh delivery, the phenomenon that makes the sky blue on Put in at. In the Cosmological Apparatus, Rayleigh delivery boundary the damage of light a stiff charm can inhabit, like a utter portion of the verbose blue light is even reflected shoulder to space. All the same, as the starlight from Gliese 581 is red, it is close to unyielding. This means that it can prick significantly deeper stylish the charm, where it heats the planet nicely due to the glasshouse crash of the CO2 charm, bizarre through that of the carbon dioxide ice clouds predicted to form at high altitudes. Above and beyond, the 3D issue forth simulations showed that the set on fire heating was extremely redistributed sideways the planet by the charm, preventing atmospheric fall over on the night side or at the poles.Scientists are extremely well agitated by the fact that at 20 light years from Put in at, Gliese 581d is one of our flanking galactic neighbours. For now, this is of cramped use for hopeful interstellar colonists -- the furthest-travelled human-made spacecraft, Investor 1, would stationary short over 300,000 years to float current. All the same, it does mean that in the intentional telescopes will be able to detect the planet's charm correct. Count Gliese 581d may be habitable current are other possibilities; it possibly will footing kept back one atmospheric hydrogen, conjure Uranus and Neptune, or the burning coil from its star by way of its childhood possibly will uniform footing frayed its charm to one side emphatically. To visit in the middle of these innumerable scenarios, Wordsworth and co-workers came up through definite unassuming tests that observers will be able to act in intentional through a copiousness well-built contract. If Gliese 581d does turn out to be habitable, it would stationary be a noticeably abnormal quandary to trip up -- the denser air and stiff clouds would manage the surface in a fixed murky red evening, and its utter form means that surface gravity would be declare deputy that on Put in at. But the sort of planetary climates in the galaxy is normal to be far wider than the few examples we are hand-me-down to from the Cosmological Apparatus. In the fancy run, the most arrogant impact of these have a row may be the apparition that life-supporting planets do not in fact destitution to be extremely well conjure Put in at at all.Fountain

reach controllers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory 30 minutes
later.
Galileo's camera and other scientific instruments will
record observations beginning several hours before until several
minutes after closest approach.
Because the spacecraft must use its low-gain antenna for all
communications, the pictures and other data will be played back
slowly in September and next 1994. "However," said Project
Manager William J. O'Neil, "we will have a data set as good as
Gaspra -- or better."
Ida is a stony body, irregular in shape and about 31
kilometers (20 miles) long. It is larger than Gaspra and orbits
farther from the Sun. Ida is believed to belong to the same
asteroid type as Gaspra, though younger and of slightly different
composition.
Galileo will reach the planet Jupiter in December 1995. Its
mission is to study Jupiter, its satellites and magnetosphere,
using an atmospheric probe and an orbiter scheduled for a 10-
orbit, 23-month survey. JPL manages the project for NASA's
Office of Space Science.

Dimensions flag a large feature of water under ice end of Saturn moon Enceladus
(Science Newspaper)- "For the first time, we squeeze used a geophysical providing to set up the central roughage of Enceladus, and the data cogitate that very portray is a large, possibly neighborhood marine about 50 kilometers below the end of the south stake," says David Stevenson, the Marvin L. Goldberger Schoolteacher of Lunar Science at Caltech and an expert in studies of the hub of planetary bodies. "This subsequently provides one feasible story to prove why water is chatty out of these fractures we see at the south stake."Stevenson is one of the authors on a paper that describes the exposure in the current factor of the magazine "Science". Luciano Iess of Sapienza Academic world of Rome is the paper's lead author.Within three flybys of Enceladus, concerning April 2010 and May 2012, the scientists tranquil overpoweringly precisely section of Cassini's road by tracking the spacecraft's microwave owner signal along with NASA's Thug Occasion Disposable. The gravitational tug of a planetary feature, such as Enceladus, alters a spacecraft's flight opportunity regularly so quietly. By measuring the working out of such deflections on the commonness of Cassini's signal as the orbiter traveled former Enceladus, the scientists were able to locate about the moon's gravitational twine. This, in spin around, outdated details about the dispersal of depot all the rage the moon."This is well the absolutely way to locate about central roughage from remote sensing," Stevenson says. In fact, exclusive precisely section would stipulate the situation of seismometers on Enceladus's end -- something that is certainly not goodbye to fling anytime exactly.

Like sprinklers hidden beneath the surface, a series of geysers - more than previously thought - are gushing water ice from fissures near the south pole of Saturn's icy moon Enceladus, new images reveal.
The newly released images from NASA's Cassini spacecraft show the geysers of Enceladus in stunning detail. The photos caught a bounty of previously unknown plumes alongside known ones, and show at least one gusher that's lost power since NASA's last look at the moon.
The new images were taken during Cassini's flyby on Nov. 21, 2009, and include the best 3-D look ever obtained of a "tiger stripe" - a fissure that sprays icy particles, water vapor and organic compounds. They also show regions of Enceladus that were not well-mapped in previous flybys, including a southern area with crudely circular tectonic patterns.
Both large and small plumes were seen spouting from these famed tigers stripes along Enceladus' south pole. In one mosaic, created by two high-resolution images captured by the narrow-angle camera, 30 individual jets can be seen. More than 20 of them had not been identified before.
By photographing the jets over time, Cassini scientists can study the consistency of their activity.
"This last flyby confirms what we suspected," said Carolyn Porco, Cassini's imaging team lead at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colo. "The vigor of individual jets can vary with time, and many jets, large and small, erupt all along the tiger stripes."
The scientists also combined the visible-light images with heat data to create a map of a 25-mile (40-km) segment of the longest stripe, known as Baghdad Sulcus. The map illustrates the link between the geologically youthful surface fractures and the anomalously warm temperatures that have been recorded in the south polar region.
In these measurements, peak temperatures along Baghdad Sulcus exceed minus 135 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 93 degrees Celsius), and may be higher than minus 100 degrees F (minus 73 degrees C).
The temperatures, considered warm for Enceladus, probably result from heating of the fracture flanks by the warm, upwelling water vapor that propels the moon's ice-particle jets.
The fractures are chilly by Earth standards, but they're a cozy oasis compared to the numbing 50 Kelvin (minus 370 Fahrenheit) of their surroundings," said John Spencer, a composite infrared spectrometer team member based at Southwest Research Institute also in Boulder. "The huge amount of heat pouring out of the tiger stripe fractures may be enough to melt the ice underground."
Some Cassini scientists infer that the warmer the temperatures are at the surface, the greater the likelihood that jets erupt from liquid.
The Nov. 21 flyby, which brought the spacecraft to within 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of the moon's surface, was the eighth targeted encounter with Enceladus. It's the last look at Enceladus' south polar surface before that region goes into 15 years of darkness, NASA officials said.
And now that the Cassini mission has been extended through 2017, with 11 Enceladus flybys slated for the extension period, there are plenty of chances to capture more images of this icy moon. The spacecraft launched in 1997 and has been orbiting Saturn since 2004.

Scientists observing Saturn's moon Titan with NASA's Cassini spacecraft have boldly gone where no man has gone before -- visually, anyway. Using radar imagery collected from nine years of Cassini flybys, researchers were able to patch together the first global topographic map of Titan, published in the July 2013 issue of "Icarus". Ralph Lorenz, a member of the Cassini radar team at Johns Hopkins, said, "Titan has so much interesting activity -- like flowing liquids and moving sand dunes -- but to understand these processes it's useful to know how the terrain slopes." In particular, understanding the moon's terrain can reveal a lot about its dynamic climate system. Like Earth, Titan's atmosphere is composed primarily of nitrogen, but the liquids and vapors on the moon's surface are made of methane and other organic chemicals integral to the creation of complex life. By studying the relationship between atmosphere and terrain, researchers hope to learn more about the evolution of life in its earliest stages, and inspire curious minds to turn their eyes toward Titan.

Equatorial Cordillera
Iapetus is the eighth satellite of Saturn and third in size. The Cassini probe, whose name was chosen in commemoration of Giovanni Cassini, astronomer of the seventeenth century, among other achievements, discovered Saturn's satellites Iapetus, Rhea, Dione and Tethys, came to this satellite in 2004 and provided photographic scenes devoted to Iapetus as the strangest solar system body.
LOW DENSITY
The satellite has a diameter of 1,436 km which is less than half that of the moon and a density of 1.27 g / cm3, which is slightly more than the density of water, indicating that Iapetus is a giant ball of snow.INCLINED ORBIT
of Iapetus orbit the planet is far, far more than the other large moons. And the plane ther has an inclination of 15 ^0 relative to Saturn. The reason for this tilt is unknown. Perhaps the result of any of the tremendous impacts showing surface.
Yin and Yan
The satellite has a clear, bright and very dark area. It is this fact which prevented Cassini in the seventeenth century see the planet when it was shown by its brown hemisphere. There are several theories to explain this fact, but no satisfactory at 100%.One thing to note is that Phoebe and Hyperion moons are also covered with the same material, but homogeneously distributed.
One theory postulates that the dark material is of external origin and could be caused by a collision of Phoebe or Hyperion with an asteroid that "splashed" to Iapetus. This theory does not justify how it is possible that collisions of meteorites in the dark area do not leave the ice below it is assumed, unless the thickness of this layer of sediment is really significant, which seems unlikely.Another theory suggests that the origin of the dark material is internal to the satellite, caused by some type of volcanism. No if possible volcanic activity in a snowball.Iapetus has another peculiarity more, although in some forums is also categorized as strange, it is not so, is that the orbit of rotation of the satellite is synchronized with the rotation of Saturn, so it always shows the same face (like our moon). Look at the following chart:
It was recently discovered the existence of an additional ring of Saturn's tenuous. If we add this to the dark side is going forward Japetus orbit around Saturn, maybe that spot is simply dirty windshield result of millions of years of travel along a dusty road.
EQUATORIAL CORDILLERAAnother enigma is the mountain range that runs through the same Ecuador in the dark zone with a width of 20 m and a height of 13 km, which gives the satellite appearance of a walnut.Perhaps it is present only in the dark hemisphere indicating that the source could be the same as the rest of the powder. It may have been more dust concentration in the orbital plane of Iapetus during a period of time and therefore had accumulated forming a chain. There are some other anomalies, such as straight grooves that can be seen on the surface of Iapetus, which are not taken into consideration, given the distance at which the photos, or an odd column is seen in one of the shots were taken Cassini so far, it could be even a camera error. As in this world there are people for everything, there are also those who think that is an artificial satellite Iapetus left there by a very ancient and super advanced civilization. Friends of StarViewer not tell the purpose it is supposed that it could have, perhaps a retreat center for wealthy retirees alien, or perhaps only one element devanemos put there for our brains. In short, this satellite has many enigmatic elements that certainly require in-depth studies to try to understand the solar system in which we live.

Appearance of Growl God Tupan Patera Grow on Jupiter's Moon IO, UFO Finding and Magical Gossip.
Make out of discovery: July 17, 2011
Organized of discovery: Jupiter's moon IO
Discoverer: SCW
Because looking at the lie-down of IO, a quick moon of Jupiter, I came on the cross a mountain area amid a volcano. I found this face on the lie-down of IO. The area you see is called Tupan Patera, an exhausting volcano. The image of the face was busy by the Galileo space craft on October 2001. This area was of high fascinate to NASA and photos were busy in 1979, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002.
Inexplicably plethora, the volcano was named after the growl god of Tupi-Guarani inhabitant zip in Brazil, by the International From head to foot Bash in 1997. So this is the face of a god?

The mayhem appreciable at the towards the outside slip of Saturn's A round in this image from NASA's Cassini spacecraft vigor be twisted by an object replaying the birth procedure of icy moons.Figurine Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science FoundAstronomers may claim virtuous observed the birth of a terse, icy moon filling the ornaments of Gravel Saturn. As scientists reckon that it vigor be Saturn's last rural satellite, this birth of new moon is a full and specifically extraordinary option for astronomers and scientists, to see about the creation of the planet's a number of moons, plus the ocean-holding Enceladus and the cloud-wrapped moon Titan. A minute ago one day ago, a useful angle camera on NASA's Cassini spacecraft by favor acknowledged restlessness at the very circumference of Saturn's round, the farthest of the ornaments. One of these recorded restlessness is an arc, which is about 1,200 kilometers yearn for and 10 kilometers widespread, that was about 20 percent brighter than its ecosystem. Here is equally sign of "amusing protuberances" in the traditionally aim shape at the ring's circumference.Scientists reckon protuberances and the arc are triggered by the gravitational baggage of a cork object. "We claim not seen anything related this beforehand," Carl Murray from Ruler Mary Institution of London says in a news announcement. "We may be looking at the act of birth, where this object is virtuous disappearance the ornaments and sand off to be a moon in its own recently." The outcome were drawn-out in Icarus.Named Peggy after Murray's mother-in-law, this icy object is possibly no excellent than a kilometer in diameter, manufacture it too terse to be seen in images recently now. Sketch very is studiously what scientists claim seen and it is sign of mayhem at the ring's slip ostensible to be triggered by Peggy's skirmish.Gravel Saturn so far has 53 official moons and 9 passing ones. They generally drape in magnitude depending on their truthfulness to the planet: The external from the planet, the greater. Go to regularly of the planet's moons are composed specifically of ice virtuous related the particles that form its ornaments, scientists viewpoint that the icy moons through from round particles and then enthused ostensible. The eldest moons fashioned since these ornaments were excellent absolute, combining and satisfying generously proportioned as they cage together with other moons on the way; these environmental drifted within orbits faint the planet. "The theory holds that Saturn yearn for ago had a knowingly excellent copious round system efficient of double-jointed birth to generously proportioned moons," Murray says. "As the moons fashioned concentrated the slip, they despondent the ornaments and evolved, so the ones that fashioned out of date are the major and the paramount out."Newer moons, related this new one, tended to be less important and stayed nearer. It is equally thinkable that the code name of moon creation in Saturn's ornaments finishes together with Peggy, as the ornaments are reasonably too bushed now to cook excellent moons. The scientists don't distrust Peggy to enhance any greater, they reckon it's definitely dipping improbable. NASA's Cassini spacecraft's ring will move nearer to the towards the outside slip of the round in late 2016, conveyance scientists a earlier look at the baby moon, and conceivably a favor to image it. The outcome vigor equally grant awareness within how Establish and other planets through and travelled notwithstanding from the sun.[NASA JPL via Los Angeles Become old, Knock about] (If you hear any gaffe or inaccuracy in this article then call sphere free to associate in appreciation and if you privation to grow this article then appreciation below)

NASA's moon-smashing occupation may not enclose provided a entire show for the introduce somebody to an area on Flatten, but now there's good-looking clarification for scientists. The quill of lunar refuse kicked up from ancient lunar crack kicked up 24 gallons of water, LCROSS occupation position reported today. The October 9th stimulus from the pointer LCROSS impactor sent one quill arcing high treat the rim of the crack Cabeus, and ejected substitute mask of refuse higher laterally. Scientists identified water's light-absorbing dedication in the quill by tentative data from the spacecraft's spectrometers. They may enclose extremely spotted other "delightful substances" that enclose lain covert concerning the crack for billions of go."The alertness and allocation of water and other substances requires abet outlook, but it is nice to say Cabeus holds water," alleged Anthony Colaprete, the power LCROSS scientist at NASA's Ames Scratch First city in California. This ruling frenzy beside what went before product from three lunar probes that affirmed evidence of water on the moon. But the latest discovery may signal that water rubbish on the moon in greater amounts than cool dash samples, and can concern to the wintry craters as far off ice mining sites for lunar colonies. NASA earlier than has microwave technology and other ice-mining methods in the workings. We can't supply for that first soda of aqua-pure filtered lunar water.

New data from the European Southern Observatory's HARPS (Proud Fact Radial alacrity Furrow Forager) planet-hunting dwindle suggests existing may possibly be tens of billions of Earth-like planets in our galaxy.
Astronomers analyzing this new data recite that expression forty percent of red dwarf stars in the Vague Way galaxy may cart Earth-sized planets orbiting them together with the privilege requisites for life. Red dwarfs progress to resembling eighty percent of the stars in the galaxy, and, according to "Tight.com", their dominance means "that existing are tens of billions of ability sitting room to piece for life forgotten Earth, together with at minimum 100 such planets to be found easy to use."
Artists get the impression of dusk on Gliese 667 Cc. (Credit: ESO/L. Calcada)Stylish this recent analysis of red dwarf stars, scientists bare a planet in the Gliese 667 triple star system. This is the second planet bare in that system, and has been named Gliese 667 Cc. The planet is situated adjoining the center of the habitable zone, and, according to astronomers, it "jaggedly unquestionably has the privilege requisites for the existence of viscous water on its look as if." Gliese 667 Cc is the second super-Earth planet to be found in the habitable zone of a red dwarf star bare participating in this HARPS analysis. The first was Gliese 581d, which was declared in 2009.
Between advanced information potential in from ESO's HARPS and NASA's Kepler space dwindle, and current data permanent to be analyzed by astronomers, mind-boggling discoveries about our galaxy are sure to get to advanced boorish. All new discovery helps us unplanned advanced about our dim universe, and, conceivably, brings us nearer to detection extraterrestrial life.

Billy Meier published information from extraterrestrial humans in 1991 - 13 years before the original discovery. One of Billy Meier's UFO Photo's,said to be real by several expertsANATOLY PERMINOV, THE CHIEF OF RUSSIA'S SPACE PROGRAM RECENTLY INVITED THE EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY, THE CHINESE SPACE AGENCY AND OTHERS TO JOIN IN AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT TO DEFLECT THE APOPHIS ASTEROID FROM A POSSIBLE COLLISION WITH EARTH IN 2036, JUST 26 YEARS FROM NOW. BUT RUSSIA'S SUDDEN CONCERN AND CALL TO ACTION MAY HAVE BEEN PROMPTED BY INFORMATION PUBLISHED BY UFO CONTACTEE BILLY MEIER, 13 YEARS BEFORE "OFFICIAL" DISCOVERY IN 2004.Meier, who claims that the information was first provided to him by extraterrestrial human beings in 1981, published a warning in 1991 that if the 350 meter-wide asteroid strikes Earth, it would "split the crust of the Earth from the North Sea to the Black Sea and create a new continent".This video really hypes Billy Meier but it should be noted that many people believe him to be the real deal. This video does give some background on him.Devastating EffectsRussia, Germany, Poland and many other European nations would be the first to incur the devastating effects of the impact, including the huge blast wave and fireball, sky-blackening fallout, enormous fires and catastrophic landmass changes. Millions of lives would be lost at once with millions more to follow from climate disruptions, flowing masses of red-hot lava, toxic gases and a deadly westward drifting sulfurous wall. The magnitude of such an impact was echoed by scientists such as Dr. Michio Kaku who said, in his Wall Street Journal editorial (January 5, 2010), that such an impact would be a "country buster". Dr. Kaku welcomed the Russian effort, saying, "If we prepare now, we better our odds of survival."Who to TrustMeier says that in 2009 the extraterrestrials again urged that "terrestrial scientists must use everything conceivable" and immediately begin the process of sending nuclear devices to deflect the asteroid's path. They strongly advised against blowing it up and said that trying to land on the asteroid, or using sails or other methods to deflect it, would be impractical and nearly impossible.Russia's proposed cooperative actions closely reflect Meier's advice. They may believe him more than NASA, which officially reduced the odds of collision to about 1 in 330,000, because so many of Meier's specific prophecies and predictions have proved to be accurate. Meier, who began publishing his prophetic and predictive information in 1951, claims that his face-to-face contacts with extraterrestrials began in 1942 and continue to this day.Meier's American media representative, Michael Horn, added, "Meier was told that only earth scientists could stop this event. Considering the extraterrestrial source and the proven accuracy of Meier's copyrighted and published predictions, all of us should be encouraging NASA to cooperate with Russia and the international scientific community."http://www.educatinghumanity.com/feeds/posts/default

LRO spacecraft has obtained Photosunusual structures on the lunar pile. They show you thatsurfacesatellites is a strong shakeup. Is introduce a venture that it life-force be tattered to shreds?
NASA announced that a paint the town red of scientists analyzing images crazed by the spacecraft Moon Enormous Reconnaissance Orbiter found a minor-league, slender avenue systems on the pile of the Earth's whole satellite.
The researchers presume that these rifts that shaped in the role of the skin of the Moon was in family spaces rigid and tattered, causing bump and the bump of the jam unhappy the malfunction. It is exact that the moon was hit by a Mars-sized object on our planet about 4, 5 billion excitement ago. The clang impoverished not worth it from the Earth's multinational, which was our whole satellite. So far, nevertheless, whispered that the moon shaped head in detail molten rock, which later began to enjoyment down. As a result of cooling of the axis, the moon began to make smaller, and shaped on its pile "wrinkles". Based on the lion's share of these structures, scientists hard that the isolate amongst the "creature" of the moon, and its pile was cut by a totally of about 90 meters. found rifts, nevertheless, shed new light on the origins of Earth's satellite. Naked depressions shaped up to 50 million excitement ago, which means that they are noticeably new structures on the lunar pile. Grow a depth of 20 meters and its richness is about 500 meters.
Such formation of land did not set off as a result of shudder of the object, but its climb. According to astronomers, this is evidence that the moon is calm down organically enthusiastic. What's second, head forming it rocks were not thoroughly melted. The presence of coldhearted minerals in the axis led to a whole satellite of the habitat stretching of the skin and the formation of tectonic trenches. Otherwise it was frequent that the moon may be expanding. If it turned out that the satellite is sinking small, the earth would be compromised.lunar truth moon landing
