Years ago I received a package of Spanish UFO-related clippings and documents and I was intrigued by one particular article titled, "Un OVNI en el siglo XV" (A UFO in the 15th century). The story was not written by an ufologist but by a literary editor, Luis Bonilla, in the magazine "La Estafeta Literaria", published by the prestigious cultural organization Ateneo de Madrid in 1978. It told the story a UFO sighting on January 5, 1433 in Ciudad Rodrigo, seen by the entire court of King Juan (or John) II of Castile (1405-1454), father of the famous Queen Isabella who backed Columbus. The source of the account transcribed by Bonilla was a letter written by a certain Bachelor Fern'an G'omez de Cibdarreal, said to have been the physician of the King, to the Royal Chaplain Pedro L'opez de Miranda. Although there is quite a bit of controversy concerning the authenticity of this document, as discussed below, let's see first its contents.Fern'an G'omez begins his letter to L'opez de Miranda describing briefly how the court had arrived to Ciudad Rodrigo (currently in the province of Salamanca in western Spain) on its way to Madrid. The retinue included a number of important figures like the Bishop of Palencia and the "Condestable" (Constable) Don Alvaro de Luna, one of the era's most powerful military leaders. The letter continues:
I shall not tire your lordship with this narration, since we had just arrived [to Ciudad Rodrigo] when, walking on Wednesday the 5th of this month of January [1433], "we suddenly saw a great flame of yellow fire attached to the sky move from one end to the other; it had inside like a black root and all its borders were more whitish than the middle; and it left with a great roar, causing horses and mules to ran in fear, and my own mule didn't stop until it touched another mule". Great disputes about this arose between the learned ones and those with no degrees who, without having seen the words of Aristotle, talked about how this light was up there, and how its interior could be lit like a log. The dean of Burgos stated he believes it must be the matter from the first region [in the sky], viscous and condensed, lit by the Sun, and how its weight prevented its quick dispersal, and the nature of fire brought it from here to there while its viscous part was spent, and the roar was its end. I concur with his opinion, because it could not have been what Aristotle calls the nature of comets... because it would have not moved in such varied manner, nor any other, and it would have not ended with that roar. The enemies of the "Condestable" [Don Alvaro de Luna, Commander of the Army] said this flame was the "Condestable", who would set ablaze Castile and the roar was his last gasp. These are fables as each one desires. We don't know how is the earth beneath us, and we want to know how are the hidden places of the sky; and I think that Aristotle found something else in his century from what he says for sure in his writings. Students And Teachers Of Westall High School In Suburban Melbourne Watched In Amazement As Two Disc-shaped Objects, Each About The Size Of A Car, Descended From The Sky And Landed In An Open Field Adjacent To The School. One Of The Witnesses, Science Teacher, Andrew Greenwood, Described The Objects In A Newspaper Report As Being Silvery-green And Disc-shaped.
While some accounts of this event state that there was one craft, Australian UFO researcher, Bill Chalker's investigation concluded that there were actually two craft involved. After watching the strange disc-shaped objects descend, students and teachers excitedly ran from the school and across the oval for a closer look, with several students actually approaching the craft in the field after climbing over a fence. Then, around 20 minutes after they had descended from the sky, the UFOs took off at great speed. One headed west, the other appeared to orbit a small plane before shooting off to the south. Patches of burnt ground were found at the claimed landing site. In all, over 200 students and teachers of Westall High School witnessed the event making this one of Australia's most compelling UFO sightings. In an interesting footnote to the Westall UFO mystery, an interview with one of the witnesses, Joy Tighe, who recounted the event to a Channel 9 news reporter, was, according to the network, later removed from the station's archive and never returned. In response to my initial post on this thread, James Carlson has questioned the truthfulness of my former/retired U.S. Air Force sources, including former Captain Bob Salas, regarding their knowledge of UFO-involvement in large-scale nuclear missile malfunctions, at various Strategic Air Command bases during the Cold War era. Below I have inserted what will be the first in a series of responses to Carlson's wild and inaccurate charges.
But first, in his first post on this thread, an indignant Carlson, writes:
"[Former Minuteman missile launch officer Bob] Salas' account states that my father [Captain Eric Carlson] and First Lieutenant Walt Figel, the Echo-Flight Missile Combat Crew, were below ground in the E-Flight Launch Control Center (LCC) or capsule during the incident, and that during the early morning hours, more than one report came in from security patrols and maintenance crews that UFOs were in the area. A UFO was supposedly reported directly above one of the E-Flight launch facilities. These sightings supposedly occurred at the same time the missiles went into "off-alert" status. In other words, the UFOs were supposedly the cause of the entire flight of ten ICBMs going offline. All of their missiles reported a "No-Go" condition - i.e., they became inoperable, apparently due to a Guidance and Control (G">
Now, Robert Hastings responds:
Below are pertinent excerpts from my taped telephone conversation on 10/20/08 with Col. Walter Figel (USAF Ret.). Figel was Eric Carlson's deputy missile commander at Echo Flight on March 16, 1967:
WF: [At the time of the Echo Flight shutdown] what was unusual was that several of the missiles were open...for some routine maintenance. I don't remember why. But, uh, at least two of them were running on diesel power so they were not connected to the power grid. I don't remember if it was three open or four open [but] it was just routine maintenance. Nothing had happened [to the missiles]. It was just the time of the year for routine maintenance. Um, and the day before, there were maintenance teams out there. They had stayed overnight-
RH: Do you know how many maintenance teams were out overnight?
WF: You know, I think it was four. It was the two sites that had diesels running and two others. And when maintenance stays overnight they...stay in a camper...When you have maintenance on the site and they're going to stay overnight, you have a security team on the site.
RH: Right.
(Break. Figel goes into detail about security procedures.)
WF: [When] the missiles dropped off alert, I started calling the maintenance people out there on the radio to talk to them. I had the security guard authenticate so I know I'm talking to a security guard and, you know, [I asked] "What's going on? Is maintenance trying to get into the silo?" [The guard said,] "No, they're still in the camper." [So, I said,] "Get 'em up, I want to talk to them." Then I tried to tell them what I had was a Channel 9 No-Go.
RH: Uh huh.
WF: Uh, we did that with the sites that were there, that [had maintenance teams and their guards on site] and I sent Strike Teams to two other sites. There's no sense sending them where I [already] have a guard and a gun and an authenticate.
RH: Right.
WF: Uh-
RH: So far in this narrative, you haven't mentioned UFOs.
WF: [Laughs] That's correct. Um, somewhere along the way, um, one of the maintenance people-cause he didn't know what was going on any place else either, they have no capability of talking to each other [at different launch sites], in other words, they can talk to the [launch] capsule but they can't talk to each other-
RH: Right
WF: -unless they were on the radio and no one was using the radio except the security police. And the guy says, "We got a Channel 9 No-Go. It must be a UFO hovering over the site. I think I see one here." [I said,] "Yeah, right, whatever. What were you drinking?" And he tried to convince me of something and I said, well, I basically, you know, didn't believe him. [Laughs] I said, you know, we have to get somebody to look at this [No-Go]. [A short time later] one of the Strike Teams that went out, one of the two, claimed that they saw something over the site.
RH: How did they describe that?
WF: Oh, on radio, [they said,] "There's this large object hovering over the site!" I've always been a non-believer [in UFOs] so I said, "Right, sure you do." [They responded,] "Yeah! Yeah, we do!" So, [I said,] "There's two of you there, saying so, so write it down in your report." [The Strike Team leader] said, "What do you want us to do?" [I said,] "Follow your checklist. Go to the site, open it up, and call me."
RH: What was the demeanor of the guard you were talking to?
WF: Um, you know, I wouldn't say panicked, or anything [like that]. I was thinking he was yanking my chain more than anything else.
RH: But he seemed to be serious to you?
WF: He seemed to be serious and I wasn't taking him seriously.
RH: Alright. If it was a large object, did he describe the shape of the object?
WF: He just said a large round object.
RH: Directly over the LF?
WF: Directly over the site.
(BREAK. Figel describes hearing from the maintenance man about his opening up the silo, going down into it, and reporting that even though the missile was offline, nothing was visually damaged or otherwise amiss at the site.)
RH: Did he describe the object leaving the scene?
WF: No. He never said anything about it again.
(BREAK. Figel describes telling all the maintenance teams to stay at their sites until relieved, and not to attempt repairs until told to do so, since the missile silos were in effect "crime scenes".)
RH: When you got the first call, well, when the missiles went down, you didn't have an inkling of an alleged UFO-involvement until you got the report back from the first Strike Team member?
WF: That's correct. (RH: Actually, the missile maintenance man mentioned seeing the UFO first.)
RH: Okay, uh, and only one of the two teams reported seeing an object?
WF: Right.
RH: Uh, did you discuss the report with Mr. Carlson-that you were being told that there was a UFO at one of the sites?
WF: Um, he could hear it, uh, I mean he was sitting right there, two feet away from me-
RH: So-
WF: Whatever I said, he would have heard.
(Break. Figel describes going back to Malmstrom with Carlson and being debriefed by "everybody and his brother.")
RH: Did any of the conversations back at squadron headquarters, uh, was there any mention of UFOs?
WF: I told them everything everyone told me. No one made any comments or inquiries-
RH: So you did mention the report that you got from the Strike Team?
WF: Yes.
RH: And no one asked any questions about UFOs per se?
WF: No.
RH: Did they act skeptically or negatively when you mentioned [the Strike Team's UFO report]?
WF: They just wrote things down.
RH: [Laughs] That sounds right. Poker-faced and-
WF: [Laughs] Poker-faced and wrote things down. They just said, "Thank you very much. Don't talk about it." I didn't sign anything, I can tell you that.
(Break. Hastings describes similar testimony from other missileers who were debriefed at Malmstrom and other Strategic Air Command bases, following UFO-related incidents in the missile fields.)
WF: What did Eric [Carlson] have to say [about the shutdown incident]? (RH had interviewed Carlson two weeks earlier, on 10/6/08)
RH: Uh, he said that he couldn't recall any UFO-involvement in the incident. He couldn't remember if you had mentioned UFOs, one way or another. His son [James] has now [posted] on a blog, a web log, a couple of lengthy statements in which he defamed Salas, said Salas was a liar, [and said] there was nothing involving UFOs at Echo...
WF: Did Eric say anything else that was a discontinuity [relative to what I've said]?
RH:...Well, I [told Eric] that you had [heard from] a guard or a maintenance person that there was an object above the site, which you've confirmed today-
WF: Yes.
RH: -And I asked Eric if he remembered any of that, and he said that he did not. And, um, I asked him why his son would have written this scathing, very negative summary, which I will send [to] you, about the event-
WF: That will be interesting.
RH: -calling Salas a liar, and so on and so forth.
WF: Well, I didn't do that.
RH: Well, I know, but his son, you know, for whatever reason, his son, James Carlson, has got a bug up his nose and said that nothing happened, there were no reports of UFOs, which you told me is incorrect because you got one.
WF: I did!
RH: Well, according to James, it was all bull and Salas was basically pulling it out of the air. [Eric] Carlson just, he didn't really want to talk about it, frankly, but he did answer my questions. He just was kind of circumspect. I can't say that he's not being truthful when he says he doesn't remember talking to you about UFOs, but that's what he told me.
WF: I'm sure we had a long conversation. I mean, I reported everything to him that I heard or was told. I mean, we were together, you know? [Laughs]
RH: Well, it has been 40 years, so we have to take that into account. [That is, the possibility of faded memories.]

So, folks, James Carlson has it all wrong, according to his father's deputy missile commander that day at Echo Flight, now retired Col. Walter Figel. Actually, James, the presence of a UFO at one of Echo's missiles was indeed reported to Figel, by both a missile maintenance technician and a Security Alert Team (or Strike Team) member. It was described as a "large, round object", hovering directly over the launch facility. Moreover, Figel insists that your father was fully aware of the situation, given that he was sitting "two feet away" from Figel during his phone calls with the on-site maintenance man and the responding missile security policeman. As to why your father can not, or will not, confirm Figel's story, I won't speculate.
So, James, will you also now call Col. Figel a liar, just as you have called the other honorable Air Force veterans liars, simply because they have come forward and spoken the truth about UFO activity at ICBM sites? World Unsolved Mytery The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle is a large part of ocean in the North Atlantic that has been the source of many plain- and boat disappearances. A number of explanations have been suggested over the years ranging from; time warps, extreme weather to alien abductions. There is substantial evidence to show that many of the disappearances have been exaggerated, but even if those were excluded from the total count, the odds of vanishing into thin air are higher in the Bermuda Triangle then anywhere else.
The BERMUDA TRIANGLE, also known as the DEVIL'S TRIANGLE, is an undefined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. According to the US Navy, the triangle does not exist, and the name is not recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names. Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors. In a 2013 study, the World Wide Fund for Nature identified the world's 10 most dangerous waters for shipping, but the Bermuda Triangle was not among them. Contrary to popular belief, insurance companies do not charge higher premiums for shipping in this area.
TRIANGLE AREAThe first written boundaries date from an article by Vincent Gaddis in a 1964 issue of the pulp magazine Argosy, where the triangle's three vertices are in Miami, Florida peninsula; in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and in the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda. But subsequent writers did not follow this definition. Every writer gives different boundaries and vertices to the triangle, with the total area varying from 500,000 to 1.5 million square miles. Consequently, the determination of which accidents have occurred inside the triangle depends on which writer reports them. The United States Board on Geographic Names does not recognize this name, and it is not delimited in any map drawn by US government agencies.
The area is one of the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships crossing through it daily for ports in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. Cruise ships are also plentiful, and pleasure craft regularly go back and forth between Florida and the islands. HISTORYOriginsThe earliest allegation of unusual disappearances in the Bermuda area appeared in a September 17, 1950 article published in The Miami Herald (Associated Press) by Edward Van Winkle Jones. Two years later, Fate magazine published "Sea Mystery at Our Back Door", a short article by George X. Sand covering the loss of several planes and ships, including the loss of Flight 19, a group of five U.S. Navy TBM Avenger bombers on a training mission. Sand's article was the first to lay out the now-familiar triangular area where the losses took place. Flight 19 alone would be covered again in the April 1962 issue of American Legion magazine. In it, author Allan W. Eckert wrote that the flight leader had been heard saying, "We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don't know where we are, the water is green, no white." He also wrote that officials at the Navy board of inquiry stated that the planes "flew off to Mars." Sand's article was the first to suggest a supernatural element to the Flight 19 incident. In the February 1964 issue of Argosy, Vincent Gaddis' article "The Deadly Bermuda Triangle" argued that Flight 19 and other disappearances were part of a pattern of strange events in the region. The next year, Gaddis expanded this article into a book, Invisible Horizons.

Full Description of event/sighting: Hi Brain, I wrote you in October 2008 regarding a sighting of a triangle shaped UFO that I saw in Edmonton in the evening around 12:30am towards the end of September 2008. Yesterday Oct 20/08 I was watching the 6:00pm national news on TV and they had reported that the British government had released files on reported UFO sightings along with some pictures of some UFO's that people had captured on camera. (they had a photo of the triangle UFO that I had seen!) Anyway the reason why I'm writing you is to report that this was not the only time I've seen UFO's back in the summer of 2003. I was again having my last smoke on my deck before bedtime, I was looking to the west and I notice what I thought was a shooting star but this turned into what looked like a ball of fire and right behind that one was another and then another and another there was 7 of them and I remember thinking to myself this looks like the shoemaker meteors that hit Jupiter as I was thinking that with-in 5 seconds of entering the atmosphere I was able to see them, they must have been really moving fast as they could not have been more than 3000 feet high. They were V shaped and flying in a V formation.
About 3 weeks after that sighting, I again saw the same ships and formation flying in the same path, but this time I did not see them enter the atmosphere, but when I saw the triangle this September the colour and glow was the same as the V shaped UFO's I saw in 2003. I can tell you one thing Brian, if anyone wants to see these things, they are up there! You have to look for them and focus, they are hard to see as they are almost invisible but not. I was telling my wife that if you look at a digital picture with 8 pix these things are like looking at a picture that is 100pix they are that defined but also almost invisible. I feel very blessed that I have seen UFO's on 3 different occasions and I'm sure I will see more as I know what to look for!

I was driving on 195 south coming from the cape cod area.. while in westport dartmouth area going by whites restaraunt.. I saw to my left a flaming object.... looked like a comet of sorts but then burst and descended toward the ground.. it was about a mile away in the fall river area... La primera vez que cient'ificamente se realiz'o una operaci'on para extraer un implante del cuerpo de un abducido fue en 1992 en el Instituto Tecnol'ogico de Massachusetts (M.I.T.), una de las universidades t'ecnicas m'as importantes del mundo, donde tuvo lugar un congreso para estudiar el fen'omeno de las abducciones, organizado por el profesor de Psiquiatr'ia de la Universidad de Harvard, John Mack y el doctor en F'isica David E. Pritchard del M.I.T.
Para ello se utiliz'o un espectr'ometro de masas de iones secundarios con el que se bombarde'o la superficie del min'usculo objeto a fin de estudiar los iones resultantes. El doctor Pritchard se sinti'o tan interesado que despu'es del congreso hizo el seguimiento del estudio del implante. Estos objetos fueron examinados adem'as en el Laboratorio Wellman de Fotograf'ia M'edica, dependiente del Hospital General de Massachusetts, especializado en el estudio de cuerpos an'omalos en el organismo humano.

Leir tuvo dos experiencias cercanas a la muerte (ECM). Una de ellas tuvo lugar cuando su peque~no avi'on de alquiler que 'el mismo pilotaba, se estrell'o. En el transcurso de nuestra agradable charla en Los 'Angeles donde los dos particip'abamos como ponentes en un congreso, le preguntamos si nunca se hab'ia interesado en los ovnis hasta que se encontr'o con sujetos que llevaban aparatos de extra~na procedencia en sus cuerpos. Me pareci'o que era una chifladura y quise largarme de all'i, pero mi amiga me dijo: "Espera hasta el final. Esto es muy interesante y no vas a perder nada". Esper'e y en efecto las cosas que dijo Derrel referentes a los tejidos que estaban pegados a ciertos implantes me interesaron porque aquello era lo m'io. Despu'es habl'e con 'el y fui yo quien le propuso que trabaj'aramos juntos. 'El conoc'ia a muchos abducidos que alegaban tener implantes y yo era cirujano y conoc'ia a otros profesionales que pod'ian estar interesados en participar en las operaciones. La mayor parte de las investigaciones fueron financiadas por la Bigelow Foundation y el NIDS (National Institute for Discovery Science). El NIDS les exigi'o una total discreci'on de cara a la prensa. A partir de ah'i les empezaron a llegar no s'olo personas que alegaban tener un implante, sino otro tipo de evidencias relacionadas con el fen'omeno ovni, entre ellas "un trozo de metal del platillo de Roswell". En la investigaci'on de laboratorio de este material particip'o el doctor Russell VernonClark de la Universidad de California en San Diego. 'Este estaba muy entusiasmado porque hab'ia encontrado "is'otopos extraterrestres. Es decir, un material que no existe en la Tierra".
El 4 de julio de 1997 mientras un grupo de investigadores espa~noles nos reun'iamos en Murcia en un congreso organizado por Joaqu'in Abenza para celebrar el cincuentenario de Roswell, otro gran congreso ten'ia lugar en el mismo escenario del incidente de 1947. Chris Wyatt, un productor independiente de la CBS le sugiri'o al doctor Leir presentar la evidencia del trozo de metal, avalada por el an'alisis cient'ifico del doctor VernonClak que tambi'en participaba como ponente. 'Este cre'ia que sus descubrimientos har'ian estremecerse a los cient'ificos del mundo. All'i se congreg'o toda la prensa de Estados Unidos para cubrir la informaci'on del evento. Pero tuvieron la mala suerte de que el d'ia que se presentaban los resultados, aterrizaba el Pathfinder en Marte y toda la informaci'on se centr'o en este hecho. De esta manera qued'o eclipsada una de las noticias m'as importantes de la historia. Por si esto fuera poco, un periodista de la Associated Press se puso en contacto con la Universidad de California para pedir informaci'on sobre el doctor VernonClark. Desafortunadamente - esa fue la explicaci'on-escribi'o mal el nombre y la computadora respondi'o que no hab'ia ning'un cient'ifico con ese nombre en dicho centro. La noticia que dio la Associated Press fue que uno de los participantes en el congreso de Roswell, que aseguraba haber encontrado pruebas cient'ificas de que lo que se hab'ia estrellado hac'ia cincuenta a~nos era de otro planeta, dec'ia ser un cient'ifico de la Universidad de California y que puestos en contacto con la entidad se hab'ia descubierto que no era cierto. Cuando al cabo de unos d'ias los interesados comprobaron lo ocurrido se pusieron en contacto con la AP y les pidieron que rectificaran la noticia.
La agencia reconoci'o su error y rectific'o pero el da~no ya estaba hecho; la rectificaci'on apareci'o s'olo en dos peri'odicos mientras que la mentira hab'ia aparecido en sesenta. El doctor Leir tiene a'un duda sobre si esto se hab'ia debido realmente a un error o hab'ia algo m'as detr'as. Estos comentarios que parecen alejarnos un poco de los implantes, nos hacen reflexionar una vez m'as sobre las trampas que los organizadores del encubrimiento tienden cada vez que ven que el fen'omeno puede escap'arseles de las manos.
Volviendo al tema de los implantes, las primeras muestras enviadas a los laboratorios eran tejidos blandos que rodeaban a los objetos extra'idos y que hab'ian sido cuidadosamente separados. Algunos de estos tejidos ten'ian un color anormal; otros eran enviados por alguna otra raz'on. La preparaci'on de muestras se realizaba como en cualquier otra operaci'on quir'urgica. La sumerg'ian en una soluci'on de formol y cada esp'ecimen estaba identificado con el nombre del paciente, la fecha de la operaci'on, el procedimiento que se hab'ia seguido, el cirujano que lo hab'ia practicado y el diagn'ostico preoperatorio. La 'unica nota que le pon'ian era "tejido blando adyacente al cuerpo extra~no". Para que los laboratorios hicieran un an'alisis "ciego y doble ciego", no enviaban m'as datos que los estrictamente necesarios.
Las primeras muestras que se enviaron hab'ian sido obtenidas del dedo gordo del pie izquierdo de una paciente de nombre Patricia, el 18 de mayo de 1995; la segunda muestra fue de la mano de un hombre llamado Paul. Cuando Leir recibi'o los resultados de los an'alisis se qued'o estupefacto y as'i lo demuestra en estas palabras: "Uno de los hallazgos m'as asombrosos fue la gran cantidad de nervios proprioceptores que se encontraron dentro de la muestra. No hab'ia una justificaci'on anat'omica para que estas c'elulas nerviosas especializadas estuvieran rodeando un cuerpo extra~no que estaba dentro de un ser humano, pegado a un hueso". En general, las peque~nas c'elulas nerviosas especializadas que tan boquiabierto dejaron al doctor Leir se encuentran en zonas como las yemas de los dedos y sirven para conducir sensaciones como presi'on, temperatura y suavidad t'actil. Su funci'on es la de enviar mensajes a trav'es de la espina dorsal a los m'usculos de las extremidades inferiores. Leir se preguntaba qu'e objeto tendr'ian estas c'elulas dentro de tejidos blandos del dedo gordo del pie y pegados al hueso.
Otro resultado sorprendente fue la completa ausencia de una inflamaci'on microsc'opica en las muestras de tejido y as'i nos lo manifest'o: "Viendo esto en los resultados de los laboratorios, me preguntaba si no habr'ia cambiado la manera de reaccionar el cuerpo humano desde que yo hice mis estudios de medicina. Me pas'e horas sentado en mi computadora buscando literatura m'edica sobre esto. Al final de mi investigaci'on, hab'ia comprobado que fundamentalmente nada hab'ia cambiado. En resumen, no existe literatura m'edica que admita la posibilidad de que una sustancia extra~na pueda ser alojada en el cuerpo humano sin que los tejidos adyacentes reaccionen. Nuestro sistema de defensa llamado sistema reticuloendotelial entra inmediatamente en acci'on en cuanto un elemento extra~no penetra en el cuerpo". La gran pregunta de Leir y su equipo era por qu'e no se hab'ia producido ninguna reacci'on inflamatoria contra los cuerpos extra~nos que hab'ian extra'ido.
De las ocho operaciones realizadas hasta agosto de 1998, en cuatro de ellas se encontraron objetos met'alicos ajenos al cuerpo, cubiertos por membranas oscuras, grises y brillantes que no pudieron ser abiertos con el bistur'i. Estas membranas estaban compuestas de co'agulo prote'inico, hemosiderina y keratina. Estas tres sustancias se encuentran en el cuerpo pero seg'un las investigaciones del doctor Leir y su equipo, nunca se han encontrado combinadas de esta manera, seg'un la literatura m'edica existente. Esta puede ser la causa de que no haya inflamaci'on en los tejidos adyacentes al cuerpo extra~no.
La operaci'on del caso octavo en agosto de 1998 fue realizada en la NBC y transmitida en directo para todo Estados Unidos. El sujeto ten'ia un implante en la mano. Cuando se lo extrajeron ante las c'amaras, presentaba un aspecto similar a las dos semillas de mel'on que el doctor hab'ia obtenido en 1995. Hubo que grabar por separado todas las partes de la operaci'on. Las partes de tejido blando que se extrajeron se separaron y se colocaron en contenedores sellados, manejados 'unicamente por el pat'ologo. El objeto met'alico extra'ido tambi'en se meti'o en un recipiente que luego sellaron ante dos testigos. Despu'es de 24 horas el envase fue llevado a la consulta del doctor Leir y all'i se abri'o ante las c'amaras de televisi'on. Sacaron el objeto del fluido biol'ogico y lo colocaron en un recept'aculo seco que fue inmediatamente sellado y entregado a un representante de la NBC. Despu'es de otras 24 horas quitaron la cubierta biol'ogica y crearon dos muestras, una biol'ogica y otra met'alica. La primera se le entreg'o al pat'ologo y la segunda fue nuevamente sellada en otro contenedor que a su vez fue colocada en una caja met'alica bajo llave. Un mensajero llev'o la caja a un laboratorio metal'urgico.
Al d'ia siguiente el doctor Leir recibi'o una llamada del pat'ologo asistente dici'endole muy asustado que cuando se dispon'ia a poner el recipiente que conten'ia el suero sangu'ineo que previamente hab'ia envuelto el implante, repentinamente se hab'ia dado cuenta que tanto el contenido como el continente emit'ian una fluorescencia. Se sinti'o tan atemorizado que no quiso seguir con aquello hasta que no llegara el pat'ologo jefe.Conviene se~nalar que esta extra~na fluorescencia, tambi'en se ha encontrado en los cuerpos de algunos abducidos. En cierta ocasi'on una se~nora que hab'ia tenido estas experiencias fue a visitar al doctor Leir. 'Este us'o una luz ultravioleta para examinar algunas partes de su cuerpo y observ'o una fluorescencia rosa en las palmas de sus manos. Le pregunt'o a la paciente si hab'ia tocado algo que hubiera podido producir aquel color en su mano. A ella no se le ocurri'o nada salvo que pod'ia haber sido el volante de su coche. El doctor intent'o quitarle la mancha con alcohol y una gasa y el color desapareci'o, lo que le hizo pensar que se trataba de algo superficial. Sin embargo, despu'es de dos horas de haber sido examinada, la se~nora volvi'o a tener la misma fluorescencia rosa en las manos.
- En los tejidos blandos analizados, adyacentes a los implantes met'alicos se encontraron conglomerados de c'elulas nerviosas y una total ausencia de respuesta inflamatoria.
- Todos los implantes fueron obtenidos en la parte izquierda de los cuerpos. Casi todos son fluorescentes bajo la luz ultravioleta. Esto est'a siendo investigado por especialistas en biofluorescencia.
- Todos los sujetos del estudio mostraron una compulsi'on a consumir alimentos salados.
- Alrededor del 50 por ciento de las personas del estudio sufren xeroftalmia (ceguera nocturna). Cuando se trata de mujeres la proporci'on es del 90 por ciento.
- Todos los pacientes estudiados tienen perfiles psicol'ogicos normales y seg'un el psic'ologo del equipo ten'ian personalidades ajustadas y no padec'ian ninguna patolog'ia.
Los implantes extra'idos fueron analizados en diversos laboratorios, entre ellos el National Los Alamos Laboratory. Para determinar los componentes elementales de las muestras se emple'o el LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy). Los objetos, de ordinario, ten'ian forma de bastoncitos de uno o dos mil'imetros de di'ametro y menos de un cent'imetro de largo. Bajo el microscopio daban la impresi'on de ser met'alicos y todos excepto uno mostraban tener 'areas de diferente aspecto.
LIBS es una t'ecnica de an'alisis en la cual poderosos impulsos de l'aser se enfocan sobre la muestra para generar un microplasma muy caliente (10.000 grados K). Este m'etodo es muy 'util para muestras microsc'opicas ya que el rayo l'aser puede ser enfocado sobre un 'area muy peque~na. El microplasma vaporiza una peque~na cantidad de la muestra (menos de 50 nanogramos) y excita a los 'atomos resultantes para que emitan luz. Esta luz es recogida y dispersada espectralmente; el espectro resultante es el que nos determinar'a la composici'on elemental. Como cada elemento tiene una 'unica se~nal espectral 'estos pueden ser identificados.
El an'alisis metal'urgico arroj'o los siguientes resultados: El implante que ten'ia forma de T se compon'ia de dos bastoncillos met'alicos. La parte interna de la porci'on horizontal estaba compuesta de hierro magnetizado y su dureza era mayor que la del acero m'as duro. La cobertura que rodeaba esta parte estaba compuesta de una serie de elementos diferentes. Parte de esta cubierta era una banda cristalina que rodeaba todo el bastoncillo. Cuando se observ'o electrofotomicrogr'aficamente el bastoncillo parec'ia que estaba estructurado. Un extremo ten'ia la forma de p'ua y el otro era chato. En el centro del bastoncillo hab'ia una peque~na depresi'on. La forma de esta depresi'on se encajaba con la protuberancia de la secci'on vertical. El trozo vertical ten'ia una envoltura semejante, pero su interior estaba compuesto de carb'on en lugar de hierro y era magnetoconductivo, pero no magn'etico.
La conclusi'on final a la que se ha llegado es que "la mayor parte de los an'alisis metal'urgicos indican que la estructura de estos objetos tiene un origen extraterrestre. La composici'on de los implantes incluye metales cuyas ratios isot'opicas no se dan en nuestro planeta. Adem'as la forma de estos objetos indica claramente que han sido construidos haciendo uso de una tecnolog'ia muy avanzada. Si estos resultados no son cient'ificamente refutados en subsiguientes an'alisis podemos concluir firmemente que algunos individuos que dicen haber sido abducidos tienen dentro de sus cuerpos objetos artificialmente manufacturados de un origen extraterrestre demostrable".
En definitiva, los cient'ificos que examinaron los implantes, ajenos todos a la investigaci'on ovni, concluyeron de una manera clara que por lo menos algunos de ellos eran de origen extraterrestre al afirmar que en los objetos que hab'ian examinado hab'ia is'otopos cuya estructura s'olo se encuentra en los meteoritos. A esto habr'ia que a~nadir la curiosa coincidencia de que las personas que tienen en sus cuerpos estos min'usculos objetos, son siempre personas que han protagonizado una experiencia de abducci'on.
El tema es m'as que interesante. La investigaci'on contin'ua y cada vez es mayor el n'umero de cient'ificos que extraoficialmente se han apuntado a la investigaci'on de implantes.
La NBC tiene previsto sacar en 1999 otro reportaje con todo el material que acabamos de exponer; ser'a un especial de dos horas en el que habr'a un coloquio en el que s'olo intervendr'an especialistas. La cadena ha prometido, en este caso, prescindir de los debunkers, por desgracia siempre presentes en todos los programas cuyo 'unico fin es desprestigiar la labor de los investigadores serios.

Ufo Sighting In Wading River
I walked out to smoke a cigarette and immediately was drawn to (what resembled a fireball) a brightly lit object approaching from the NE. At first glance, I assumed it was a helicopter shuffling the folks back to Manhattan from the Hamptons, which is common on the North Coast of Long island. There were several aircraft in the sky at different altitudes, but my attention remained on the object because of the glow and the fact it was not making noise. It did not have flashes, blinking or anything and I assumed I was catching a glimpse of the first meteor I had ever seen, and than it stopped for several seconds... I couldn't believe it stopped, and was even more amazed when it either reduced in size or simply had turned to what appeared to be due north. It took a trajectory of what appeared to be directly at an airplane flying south. When the paths of the plane and the object crossed - it was the first time I realized that the object was already at a much higher altitude and that the object was moving at a speed that left me stunned. I mean...literally stunned! It was a crystal clear night, I have excellent vision, and in my 45 years I have never seen anything I could not explain. Originally, I thought the object flew out of site to the north, but after seeing it cross visual path with the airplane I realized it was ascending and it continued in that straight direction until I could no longer see it by eye. I went inside to tell my wife and even reported it to the local news station (seemed silly, but I had to know if others saw this. I am a rationale guy, and I am not sure what it was that I saw - but I know it was there and I know I saw that fireball change direction. I never felt afraid, just bewildered and a lot of second-guessing. If anyone else saw it, or anybody can check if one of the planes saw it - please let me know. I smoked a cigarette tonight a 9pm, no object to go along with a bad habit tonight.
