A bizarre creature that washed ashore last week in Folly Beach, S.C., sparked speculation in the area and on the Internet that a dead sea monster might have been discovered.
The tan-brown animal with greenish patches was strange enough, but what really baffled beachgoers was its massive size and the dinosaur-like bony plates on its sides. It's not clear just how long it was, but photos suggest it exceeded 10 feet.
Like many washed-up carcasses it carried both a salty stench and an air of mystery. Speculation ran rampant, with commenters suggesting that the creature was everything from a dinosaurian sea monster to a toxin-spawned mutation to a chupacabra.
Scientists, however, were somewhat more skeptical.
One of the first to identify the monster was Dr. Shane Boylan of the South Carolina Aquarium. Two big clues allowed Boylan to identify the fish more or less immediately: the animal's shape and distinctive bony plates.
The marine monster was in fact an Atlantic sturgeon. Part of the reason the giant fish's identity was difficult to determine is that sturgeon are not normally the strange brownish tan color but instead lighter colored and silvery. The South Carolina monster's flesh color had changed as it baked in the sun. The dinosaur identification was actually pretty close to accurate; sturgeon are among the oldest bony fish in existence.
It's not surprising that the sturgeon scared and confused people; Atlantic sturgeon have been known to reach 15 feet long and weigh over 500 pounds; seeing the beasts close-up is not for the faint of heart.
The South Carolina monster was only the latest of several creatures to wash ashore in recent months. In early February a strange, seemingly mohawked toothy monster was found on a San Diego beach. It was soon identified as an opossum.
Other normal fish besides the sturgeon have been mistaken for monsters, including oarfish and gar.
Oarfish, which are long, serpentine, nearly finless fish with large round eyes, often average 20 or 30 feet but have been reported over 50 feet long. Earlier this year, in January a huge ribbon-like monstrous fish that washed ashore in Delray Beach, Florida, was identified as an oarfish.
Several sightings of gar (freshwater and marine fish which can grow over 10 feet long and reach over 350 pounds) have also been mistaken for monsters. In fact, some believe that "Champ," the lake monster said to inhabit Lake Champlain (on the border between Vermont and New York), was first sighted in 1609 by French explorer Samuel de Champlain.
In his journal Champlain wrote of local Indians describing a fish with "a head as large as my two fists, with a snout two feet and a half long, and a double row of very sharp, dangerous teeth. Its body has a good deal the shape of the pike; but it is protected by scales of a silvery gray color."
Though often claimed as an eyewitness report of "America's Loch Ness Monster," his description is clearly that of a sturgeon-like gar fish.
Another reason that the sturgeon seemed monstrous was that it's an unusually large fish.
The fish most people (and certainly most urban dwellers) encounter are relatively small -- goldfish perhaps, or aquarium fish. Sport fishermen, butchers and marine biologists are far more likely to recognize large fish such as tuna, sturgeon and gar, for example, which often grow to surprising sizes.
Even seeing large fish on television, in aquariums or in photographs does not necessarily prepare city-dwelling beachgoers for real-life encounters with a beached, smelly giant.

We observed lights in the sky on 21 September 2011 for about 15-20 minutes. Object had three lights in a triangular formation in the Northwestern Sky. I am located in Dover, TN and I was standing outside the back door of my home. Prior to seeing this I was inside working on my computer when I heard a call to come look at something in the sky.
At first I thought it might be something from the near by military base but the object made no sound. We frequently have helicopters fly over and occasionally other military type crafts (Chinooks and other large transport style aircraft)but this did not look like anything we had ever seen before.
As I stated before, the object had three lights in a triangular formation. It appeared to hover for several seconds and then it would move very fast but it would not make any sound. The object would move across and out of my line of sight and several minutes later it would appear in the sky again. For the most part it stayed over the tree line but on two occasions it appeared to come closer and was almost directly over my home. When it was closest to my home there was no sound and one light appeared to shine very brightly down on us. All of a sudden it flew away very fast without making any sound. When it was over us only the lights were visible. I could not see anything but the lights of the object.
We did not know exactly what the object was but we were very curious. I managed to take two videos with my phone (sorry, I attempted to keep a steady hand but it was a little shaky due to my excitement). Unfortunately, I was unable to get my phone ready when the object was closest to me I was focused on looking up at the object.
The flight pattern of the object appeared to be in a large oval shape. It completed this pattern several times during the 15-20 minutes we were outside. Eventually, the object went out of our line of sight and did not return.

UFO SIGHTING IN MENASHA, WISCONSIN ON AUGUST 23RD 2013 - SON CALLED, OBSERVED 5 SWARMING BRIGHT OBJECTS IN SKY OVERHEAD, 12MILES WEST OF APPLETON ON HWY 10. WE WENT OUT SIDE AND COULD SEE THEM UNTIL THEY SPED WEST AND DISAPPEARED. FOLLOWED BY OTHER UNUSUAL SIGHTINGS SOON AFTER. INTERESTINGWe recieved a call at our home in Menasha from our son as he was driving home heading East on Hwy 10 from their camper in the Waupaca area. He asked us to go outside and see if we could see the swarm of bright lights in the sky West of us. We went outside and observed 5 distinct lights that were as bright as Venus is in the sky right now, but not nearly as large, just as bright. They were more of a pinpoint from the distance we were at from the objects and almost looked like you were looking at a very bright LED flashlight from a distance. They moved up and down and left to right with no apparent or distinguishable pattern of movement, the lights would flash on for about 2 seconds per flash, but did not flash in any regular pattern or time interval. While we observed them they seemed to be initially moving, Darting, West, then came back East toward our direction, then went West again until they just went out of sight. We observed vapor trails occasionally while they darted about. There was no sound initially, but about a minute after they disappeared we heard what sounded like thunder coming from the West. Our son had a better observation. As he was driving home from the Waupaca area heading East on Hwy 10 he spotted these bright objects in the sky. He stopped and pulled over to observe them along with his wife and 2 children. He called quite a few people that also observed the lights as we did. He said they were swarming around each other like nothing he'd seen before because they were so fast. He has observed fighter planes dog fight training when in the Army, but these object appeared much closer to one another and were moving much faster. He said there was no sound, which seemed odd to him because he would have expected to hear sound at his proximity to the objects. They then dispersed, flew West, then back to the East, then West again at great speed and disappeared. Following our observation of the bright lights, we observed 3 more objects moving from South to North. These appeared more satelite like, very much like the ISS as it passes by. Very bright, then fade out. First one was about 2 minutes following the dissappearance of the 5 bright objects. It came out a SSW direction heading North and was only lit a few seconds until it was about 40 degrees above SSW. The next one came from due South went directly over the zenith and disappeared at about 70 degrees above North. The third was Just about 30 degrees more to the East, appeared from overhead heading North and disappeared at about 45 degrees above North. Very odd. After that we observed fast moving aircraft. 2 came from the Southeast, one fron Northwest all moving fast. Two of them crossed paths very near the area we observed the 5 objects, the other from the Southeast went in a more Westerly direction. We have never seen anything like this chain of events before. I do not think that this explanation will stand the test of time but it must do for now. I suspect that we have now truly entered the real bow wave produced by our solar system and that this is steadily increasing the free electron count as well. Yet this is all speculation until we send many probes in multiple directions and map it all. My own expectation is that we are still within the solar system's 'Dark Matter' body which serves to shield free electrons. Editors note: Five years, when I sat down to read Jesses book, "The Roswell Legacy," I couldnt put it down and quite literally read in one sitting. As I stated then, the book is so much more then "another book on Flying Saucers-it was/is a tribute to his father an American patriot." In that vein, I offer the review I wrote then, here as a tribute to the son who followed in his fathers footsteps and then some. As Jesse points out in his recently released book, "The Roswell Legacy,"there have been many books written about 'the Roswell Incident,' along with a seemingly endless stream of documentaries, movies and editorial pieces" etc. We've certainly been reminded of this fact with all the hoopla surrounding the 60th anniversary of the event, and the festival just held at Roswell.
That being the case... what more could be offered? What could be said, that hasn't been rehashed over and over again? Having just finished the book last night, I can say with great enthusiasm, that not only has Jesse revealed "fresh data," he presents it in a most "palatable fashion."
Jesse's "laid back style" which is evident on camera, certainly comes through on the page. Now this isn't to say that he "dulls the reader," quite the opposite in fact, he makes you comfortable, as if we're having a personal chat.
I found Jesse's tome to be many things rolled into one; much more then a story about "Flying Saucers, aliens and a government cover-up"; it was a "tribute' to his father to which his (Jesse Jr.) love and respect was most evident! It was also a tribute to an "American patriot" (Jesse Sr.) and quite frankly I was often moved by his "shared feelings."
The book was also an expos'e of the "Marcel family," often times very personal; one might think that Jesse needn't "go there," but as he points out the "Roswell Incident" had a rippling effect for all those called "Marcel." I thought this took a lot of guts; moreover, it certainly was a vital component in telling his story.
For the "Ufologist" and or "Roswell researcher," he doesn't disappoint there either. He recaps the Roswell events, and his involvement; however, he also provides much evidence in support of the truth of the matter, that he became cognizant of so long ago. With this ammunition provided, he effortlessly quashes the "debunker conjecture" and gives the reader a clear conspectus of what took place over 60 years ago in New Mexico.
Along with covering some familiar ground, he also divulges some "new" and very "gripping information"; some readers may in fact find these admissions unsettling. I was not previous aware of these facts, and I must confess I was captivated by those pages! These revelations will undoubtedly re-ignite "Roswell Research!"
Something I felt unique, and ending up very essential to the book, was a chapter penned by Jesse's wife "Linda." In it she gives her perspective, having worked for, then marrying a man, raising a family etc., of someone who is smack dab in the middle of the UFO controversy.
Her views give the reader, an alternative account of their life together, as well as the effect that Ufology has had on her and the Marcel family. Her writing style is like that of Jesse's and one can imagine sitting in her kitchen having a cup of coffee.
At the end of the book, Jesse shares his views on "life in the universe," as well as the motivations for the government withholding and covering up information pertaining to the "UFO phenomenon" and it's source. By this time, the reader has discovered that "Jesse Marcel Jr." isn't some "country boy" living up in Montana, wearing a tinfoil hat! He's a compassionate, intelligent, articulate, patriotic individual!
Finally, most of the a fore mentioned attributes that Jesse holds were mutual between he and his father; in fact I'm sure Jesse Jr. would credit his parents, in particular his father for instilling these values into him. The other admirable trait, is they were/are both "men of their word"; to that end, Jesse made a promise to his father shortly before he died over 20 years ago-this book, this chronicle of events, is a fulfillment and culmination of that promise! Since launching back in 2011, it has travelled over ten times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, and has performed a series of planetary flybys and deep space manoeuvres. Tomorrow on October 9, Juno will come within 350 miles of Earth's surface. This is known as a gravity assist, or a gravitational slingshot. After Juno says its farewells to planet Earth for the final time, it will race towards the Jovian system before its slated arrival time of 22:29 EST, give or take a few minutes!But what has Juno done since launch? Well, the Jovian explorer has been sent out past the orbit of Mars, and performed crucial Deep Space Maneuvers to set itself up for tomorrow's flyby of Earth. Juno Mission Project Manager Rick Nybakken explains further; "On Oct. 9, Juno will come within 347 miles (559 kilometers) of Earth. The Earth flyby will give Juno a kick in the pants, boosting its velocity by 16,330 mph (about 7.3 kilometers per second). From there, it's next stop Jupiter... Almost like a second launch for free!" Well, think of it this way: if a golfer putts a ball towards the edge of the hole, and the ball does not fall into the cup, instead hitting the very edge of the hole and "lipping out", the ball will shoot off in another direction at a faster speed than before. You got the hang of this? Right, let's move on.However, it is also worth noting that as well as this extremely predictable increase in speed, the flyby anomaly results in a tiny tiny change in velocity that science doesn't really have an answer for at the moment. But just why do spacecraft that flyby Earth receive this tiny change in acceleration? Well, to put it simply, no one is really quite sure! This is known as the Flyby Anomaly. WHAT CAUSES THE FLYBY ANOMALY? Scientists have theorised (and later dismissed) this unexpected source of energy as being caused by atmosphere, tides, magnetism or radiation. The possible remaining solutions for this problem include that there might be a halo of dark matter around the Earth, as well the theory that it is caused by the rotation of the Earth itself. In 2005, ESA's Rosetta spacecraft made its first of three Earth flybys planned for the mission. The first flyby resulted in a predicted increase in velocity, of 4km/s. However, the Rosetta mission team also found a really small change in velocity of 1.82 mm/s (that's 2 million times smaller than the main boost!) as a result of the anomaly1. This is why mission planners can safely ignore it, but scientists who have been trying to figure out the exact cause of this puzzle will be eagerly awaiting Juno's flyby tomorrow to see how much of an increase in velocity it will receive from the Earth and watching closely for any unexpected variations due to the flyby anomaly. It seems Juno might be able to solve some tough questions before it even gets to Jupiter! MISSION SCIENCE When Juno arrives at Jupiter in 2016, it will orbit the gaseous planet for around a year, completing 33 orbits around the planet's poles, using onboard scientific equipment to probe beneath the planet's obscuring yet beautiful clouds. The main goals of the Juno mission are: * To find out how much water is in Jupiter's atmosphere, which helps determine which planet formation theory is correct (or if new theories are needed). * To look deep into Jupiter's atmosphere to measure composition, temperature, cloud motions and other properties. * To map Jupiter's magnetic and gravity fields, revealing the planet's deep structure. * To explore and study Jupiter's magnetosphere near the planet's poles, especially the auroras - Jupiter's northern and southern lights - providing new insights about how the planet's enormous magnetic force field affects its atmosphere. " Much like the Northern Lights here on Earth, Jupiter has aurorae. Juno's magnetometer and other instruments will help scientists to study these phenomena. This cloudy world is a primary example of a giant planet, and can also give us clues as to how other giant gas planets (called "Hot-Jupiters") which we have discovered orbiting other stars, may have formed.Juno will accomplish this by studying the planet's cloudy atmosphere and its overall composition. One such scientific instrument aboard Juno is its Magnetometer. This sensor, located on the spacecraft's magnetometer boom, will accurately map the magnetic field of Jupiter to try and understand how it is generated deep within the planet's core. Juno will do this by observing and imaging Jupiter's core where the field originates from.END OF MISSION After completing primary mission objectives and 33 orbits around Jupiter in 2017, Juno will perform a series of de-orbit burns to take the spacecraft out of Jovian orbit and into a destructive re-entry in Jupiter's upper atmosphere. But first, on October 9th 2013, Juno will return to within 350 miles of Earth to say one last goodbye to planet Earth, before heading to Jupiter to try and unlock some of the secrets of our solar system's biggest planet. 1 A big thanks to the Rosetta mission team for letting me have the numbers! Essa 'e a sua atrac~ao gravitacional que mostra esses objetos s~ao aproximadamente do tamanho da Terra. Seus campos diferem em tamanho de uma forma... alguns. Ter nenhum em tudo o que 'e muito estranho para um objeto desse tamanho (foto maior acima) Mas algo que 'e irritante 'e o aparecimento constante do U e UFOs em forma de X. A foto acima mostra tr^es do of'icio, mas no v'ideo voc^e vai ver meia d'uzia. A forma do U e UFOs X s~ao 100% prova que estes n~ao s~ao planetas, mas nave alien'igena.
Imposs'ivel voc^e diz? Se os alien'igenas existem, que eles fazem... ent~ao nada 'e imposs'ivel. Pense desta forma, os estrangeiros evoluir para milh~oes ou at'e bilh~oes de anos. Como seria bom se o seu iphone se eles tinham um bilh~ao de anos para melhorar isso? Ele iria deix'a-lo atravessar paredes de aco, voar pelo espaco sem um navio, teletransportar-lo de um lugar para outro e criar um jantar fora do ar.Assim seria f'acil para os estrangeiros n~ao fazer os navios gigantes em si, mas t^em os seus trabalhadores rob^o constru'i-los levando s'eculos ou mil^enios para terminar. Tamb'em sabemos que os estrangeiros vivessem para dezenas de milhares de anos, se eles morrem em tudo.

Todas as f'abricas criando medicina iria fechar j'a que as pessoas n~ao ficam doentes.Plantas toda a eletricidade, as usinas nucleares de petr'oleo e carv~ao iria fechar, uma vez que ir'a liberar energia. As pessoas j'a n~ao envelhecer e morrer... criando sobre a populac~ao. Novas igrejas e cultos formariam adorando diferentes esp'ecies ex'oticas (56 esp'ecies espaco faring sabe existir, USAF informac~oes). Tudo isso e mais iria acontecer em apenas algumas semanas. Isso 'e muito ca'otica para qualquer governo quer tratar. Especialmente porque eles t^em muito dinheiro nas ind'ustrias. ACS
