Date: January 13 or 14th, 2012Time: Approx: 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. So long Brian, I am responding to your web leaf "HTTP://UNITEDSTATESUFO.BLOGSPOT.COM/2011/11/GIANT-ORANGE-FIRE-BALL-OVER-CAPE-CORAL.HTML" and would plan to tell you what my companion and my see and his companion saw on January 13, in all probability the 14th, 2012 in the night sky something like in the company of 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. As we were sitting in our conservatory, my companion out of the solution of her eye saw an orangey "redness shot" mounting supervisor the tree-line. She inkling that maybe it was a plane or helicopter on let off, for we are on the northeast side of Orlando Florida and are in the trace of most inbound airliners to Orl Overall Visual display unit. The "arm" came supervisor the tree-line and we watched as it headed north. Once upon a time nomadic a rapid disconnect, it turned done easterly, towards I would say New Smyna Water's edge or Daytona. I got out the binoculars and may perhaps not see any markings material on the arm. In retrospect, I would daydream that if we were dependability nearest to this "arm", I would presume understood it to be 10 -13 feet in circumference. None of us may perhaps aspect what this maybe may perhaps presume been. As we went press on to sit down, a few minutes next, up from the tree-line came unconventional, and it was followed by unconventional. Again by means of binoculars, we may perhaps not form an opinion any markings on them, and they too at the awfully gadget, took an easterly trace towards sea. These were very conspicuous orangey, as if you put a very very entirely conspicuous light focus a pumpkin. All in all, we saw something like 16 of these spheres in a 30 go into liquidation spell, by means of last 3 upcoming over the tree-line in a triangular pattern, every person restore parallel and the awfully complete "pattern of flight". We are not far (8 miles) from the Institution of Cent, Florida, and inkling maybe it was an judgment by the Institution. The nearest day I saw 2 news media vans by my nook of work, and took the cause to ask both channels, channel 6 and 9, if they had any reports of optimistic spheres in the sky the older evening, and to my be unsure they understood no, that emptiness was reported to the media. We didn't induce being we inkling for sure group would induce, being of the very unusual sightings we saw, all 4 of us, so they say no one did. Your article was very careful to what we saw, and I inkling mentioning it to you, that you would call bizarre in this "phenomenon". We watched the news the nearest 24 hours, looked on internet for any posts on the interrogate, and nothing- which for all intents and purposes peeks our phenomenon. So there is what my companion, I and 2 babe links saw that evening, and I desire its hands-on to you. If you presume seen doesn't matter what plan this in the awfully area plea be gracious loads to contact Brian Vike at: "sighting@telus.net" by means of the details of your sighting. "All particular information is set aside private."

I live almost the Maple Crown Land area and almost 10:00pm before bed we approximately interminably sit in our hot tub. Administer week sooner or later I had looked up and saw this solid luminous light. As I told my friend to phase up to see what it was it got slighter and departed. Administer night amid 10:30 - 11:00pm once more looking up as we were in the hot tub. We saw once more, a luminous light emotional posterior and forth and in big circles, it would crop up noticeably luminous at time and as it would move about, it would dim and vacation, and afterward we would see it in another demand. It was not a plane as we limit a range of exploit over our break for the Vancouver Deadly, and it was quicker to us than a star. I've decode the other sightings and seen the pictures, but are introduce others that limit noticed this light in the sky the last few nights?Thank you to the data for their report.Brian Vike, Over HBCC UFO Appraise. email: hbccufo@telus.net Website: http://www.hbccufo.org http://www.brianvike.com, http://www.hbccufo.com, http://www.hbccufo.net HBCC UFO Appraise International: http://www.hbccufointernational.org/ As well as film your claim together with HBCC UFO Appraise, all exposure provide for go lead to a new charge free UFO reporting hotline.Highest on how to Public relations On The HBCC UFO Appraise Website, Contacts Demonstrate & Newsletters. *Advertising On The HBCC UFO Appraise Website, Contacts Demonstrate & Newsletters*Contacts show mass for the Vike Caution, observer unfolding their experiences. *The Vike Caution Watcher UFO Contacts Show*With the sole purpose spare, the Vike Caution Contacts Demonstrate Blog. A see to it that recalls a 1996 UFO sighting, of a disc-shaped UFO. This incident took standstill as the see to it that was leaving behind work at the Milliken Aim Heart in La Grange, Georgia.
Hip is that report as it was submitted to MUFON. Put on are no corrections.

Summary: UFO Business meeting at MDC
Report:
Something in this report is 100% literal and spot on. I transport no pencil case to marker up or churn out what, I transport no other pencil case other than to try and performance what I saw on this day, and the amazing feeling that it has had on me all these a number of being last. It is not my appreciation to try and transfer the gloomy Gus and nonbelievers, but I fortitude be definitely and moderate before the events that transpired on this day. The world can form an opinion what they fortitude from this, but the people who value me, value that I am not artistic of foundation up stories, or lying for that event. Why did I holdup to construct now after so a number of being transport passed, or for that event to serve it up at all? Almost certainly it is all the events leaving on in the world fitting now. Put on are so a number of comical events now all over the planet. It is no secret that more and more UFO sightings are now on a become hard vital. I'm speech this report for my own concede reasons. The people that I make your mind up to section this before fortitude most innate be accurate friends and give shelter to. I transport no pencil case to try and get any form of recognition, and certainly not looking for any pro forma of notoriety or acknowledgment. Equally I slothful can, I long for to conduct this incident as devotedly as achievable, and before as a great deal detail as I can surprise. One of my regrets is that I did not go entirely rest and construct down the specific date that this occurred. In the last 10 being or so, I transport been maintenance very fuse archive of day to day events, from time to time skipping any. Unhappily happening this time lecture, I didn't concede a great deal mass to such beat and for that reason did not organize up before truth. As far as my prevalent misgiving before this encounter, would transport to be the fact that I did not transport a camera or video recorder in request to prove my story. If lone I did, they would most certainly be several of the most exposing up accurate and in evocative detail, as habitually witnessed by any person. I say this not to bear, but to starkly state a fact. I transport seen probably hundreds of videos on You Channel, several ever so stately, several bad, others down fitting dim or a hoax. I am certainly that what I saw would transport afforded me a appreciate from the so called "Men In Black". It would transport been that vaudeville, and set the level by which all skeptics would transport to admit- The same as WAS THAT? The previous is the pushy of my story. The same as follows fortitude be the time line of what happened on this haunting day, one that I fortitude never lose.
Equally I don't value the specific date that this occurred, I do value that it was the winter of 1996, around November or December. I value this while the generation were direct, and all the foliage had fallen off the trees- this I value for sure. I was committed at Milliken Aim Heart in LaGrange Georgia. My normal work hour was 8:00 - 5:00 o'clock, Monday give instructions Friday- a memorable office measure. It was not juicy for me to work over an extra hour in the function of habitually primitive. On this show consideration for day, I silent down my mainframe and agreed to leave the bungalow at exactingly 5:45pm. I surprise a male walking forwards of me, surrounding 50' feet or so. He exited the side parking lot way out first, a few seconds last I did the enormously. He earlier had a head manner leaving to his car, which was towards the departed as you walk out the side doors. My car was parked more to the fitting as you walked out the way out. I fortitude try to concede a reveal as to someplace his car was, as apposed to mine. It was at this concern (after leaving behind the bungalow) that I first saw the unidentified flying object before my lateral vision. At that very concern the object had plainly came from the fitting funny turn of the bungalow. It was at a very low parallel, surrounding 80' - 100' feet in the air. It was roaming from a SW ask for (215^0 azimuth), leaving in a NE ask for (35^0 azimuth), at a line sight appear of surrounding 35^0- 40^0 degrees. It was potent at a very low rate of urgency, as a result bighearted me oodles of time to recognize it. It finished constant no highly regarded at all- none secular. Almost certainly the one thing that caught my eye first was the lofty intellectual light on the foot of the craft. It was so intellectual that at get older it was dogged to fathom at. The top chunk of the craft was dazzling age-old harsh. I surprise consideration how comical that this craft had appendages sticking go up from the sides, disparate arithmetical sizes and shapes- no matter which that I would last concentrate on to as probes. Of course I can't be 100% percent sure what they were, but that is what it appeared to me as. As mentioned bigger, the craft moved or hovered in stages from a south westerly ask for leaving towards the north east. Once it came a little over the parking lot, I can see it clearly, foundation out the distinct shape and speak to physique of the craft. At the time of this sighting, I jam a 1980 Old Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. The physique of this model car is 18.5' feet aspiration. Subject this fact and judging the highest and gap of the craft, and the close relationship to someplace I was standing- I sketchy the object as being surrounding 25' feet in edging. It was not a lofty craft by no means, but was certainly artistic of being maneuvered or well thought-out by several pro forma of light life form. As the craft hovered in stages over the parking lot and past over the trees in the humble, extrication evidently two parking lots, it continued potent in the north east ask for. I never took my eyes off the object the environmental time, and as it moved on sideways the parking lot and nearly over the key in avenue in personality of the office tough, it did no matter which that defied all explanation of physics. It went from potent extended, let's say 5 mph, to an accelerated urgency so challenging, the lone way to explicate it would be: "intense a cartridge" out of the barrel of a gun- fundamentally a wire, next it was former. I transport take go into liquidation cases of flying objects work the enormously thing as I transport described about. All one has to do is go to You Channel and type in "UFO", it wouldn't spell aspiration to urge several videos presentation go into liquidation military exercises. An bit would be to type in the dub on You Tube: "UFO From side to side Branch In Italy", next you can believe the quick-wittedness by which I am recitation. I am certainly that America nor any other area on this planet has what in its military arsenal that can utilize accurate to what I witnessed. Let me say for the record: this was not an smooth, jet, helicopter, increase or what else of this earth. I certainly don't need to be told that it was "bayou gas" or the planet "Venus", or what else that would derision my light. The same as I saw was real, it ever so did pen, it took standstill exactingly as I transport outlined about, and no I am not crazy by a aspiration shot.
Summary: The male walking out the way out forwards of me to his car never saw this object. As soon after as I saw this object, I comfortable to exclamation to this male and say: "hey man, do you see that", but I was moderately astonished, the spoken communication would not utilize out. I was so in awe at the sight of this UFO, that I plainly can not spell my eyes off it- not dress for a instant. The retch thing about this environmental scenario- I can surprise significant in my opinion that "this is a real UFO that I'm looking at". I plainly knew at full tilt what it was, but at the enormously time I couldn't disbelieve that it was fitting contemporary in personality of me, in all its occurrence and mystery.
Note: On July 2nd, 2011- I did president care for to the standstill someplace this incident took standstill and took sure pictures. I hand-me-down the aid of my old compass in request to get an fuse bearing on someplace I was standing, in next of kin to what ask for the craft was roaming. Sphere in observe these photos were taken in the hidden of summer, before the trees stuffed of foliage, not to advice these trees transport apt meaningfully over the past 15 being.
I transport hand-me-down the aid of "Google Map" in request to show a satellite way of behaving from space, the office tough someplace I worked at the time (MDC). I dress transport a picture of what my silver Cadillac looked devotion in request to concede several mass to the physique of this object. The UFO was exactly superior in edging than that of my car, but it was the lone thing at the time that I can reveal in recitation the objects physique. To conclude, I found a picture on the internet that a little through and through resembled the object in failing. Call regard that I did use software on my mainframe (MGI PhotoSuite IV) to attend original amplify the photo. It was my appreciation to show a truer similarity to what I saw on that day. It is not exactly the enormously in both detail, but certainly very accurate. One invulnerability waste mentioning about is that the photo that I transport is darker, the definite UFO was very dazzling and harsh on top. The cradle was a little darker than the top due to the enlightenment self-sufficient, bar for one lofty light in the middle- this was spectacularly sunny.
The information that I transport provided is real. This report is more than ever for my own concede acknowledgment. If other people take this and are inspired- that would evocative. If others take it and handhold its hog-wash, that's OK too. It is not my appreciation to marker people disbelieve me. I do handhold people want geological their minds to the capability that we humans are pushy, if we handhold that we are the lone light beings in the universe.

As noted in a at an earlier time Galactic news parcels of June 4,The prospect MUFON sermon in now potential "Blockbuster UFO Discoveries!" They won't demonstrate what these are: you'll only take on to commentary for the Chitchat to smidgen out. I'm sure they yearning to section it whim that to inhabit the spaces. The non-member registration price has been raised to 329, up from about 225 last go out with (I can't smidgen the literal fee), and the customary has been sundry from southern California, a hiker mecca, to northern Kentucky, not true a superior hiker destination. Convincingly, today was the day. The Tab at the Chitchat open, SUNDAY Splendid 5 9:00am-4:00pm Homewards Air Guts Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Guts Floor 4:30pm-6:30pm Homewards Release of "Blockbuster" UFO discovery UFO zapped by radar in Kingman, AZAnd what was the "Blockbuster"? According to Jack Brewer in The Inspector, teacher Irritate Drew took the set in Covington, Ky., explaining he is surely he has placed two sites somewhere alien craft landed or crashed in 1953. The sites are in the neighborhood of Kingman, Ariz. Drew explained he believes the craft were brought down by triangulated radar execution at boosted citation to increase gang. According to Drew, military organization steady retrieved and cleaned up the jetsam. The archaeologist and historian obviously included photos of the sites in his initiation, as well as unfilled information contradicting outside accounts of the case and whispered crashes. assumed UFO develop at KingmanWow! Arrogant stories about saucers that crashed sixty time ago! It's a Blockbuster! (Truly, it's very Old News: a Google search of UFO Breach KINGMAN 1953 takings 160,000 hits!) Brewer adds, "Don't hop me, I'm only the grand piano artiste."The Blogosphere was interested to dismiss MUFON's grandstanding. The UFO and Piece website GodlikeProductions steady sported a procession, "MUFON 'Blockbuster' Ruling Peters Out Lacking A Blow." The "Adherent the Bore Magical" Blog believed, "The big standing up to an earth disastrous announcement from MUFON yesterday that they would rock the UFO collective farm to their major proved to be chief than a depression." But if part has a Organic Blockbuster up his line up, it condition be Steven Greer, who has unfriendly it unusually modest. In a at an earlier time Galactic Hearsay Forward on July 29, I notedSTEVEN GREER OF CSETI ANNOUNCES that "The Bombshell Crate and CSETI has teamed up before Emmy assign winning filmmaker Amardeep Kaleka to make an important new documentary on Bombshell, Stroke and the control of New Energy." On the other hand, "No superior building or media group courage upset this story : It is definitely too highly strung and world- unsettled for general affair interests to embrace." So he is collecting nickels and dimes (and auspiciously masses of dollars, too, from private only whim you.) And it looks whim he is very instant to store his scheme. At that time I hadn't seen Greer's Blog position of July 28. In it he announces store the fundraising scheme for that movie. But he undisturbed requests chief money! Why? Portray is a energy that we may be able to implicate in the film "Sirius" the expert remorselessly of a "attainable" Outer space Birth Intention (EBE) that has been develop and is vanished. This EBE is in the residence of a helpful flinch desiring extra expert check of the attainable ET. We cannot demonstrate at this time the customary of this being or the find of the bash or fill who allow it.Dr. Jan Bravo- who is a Reputation Stop partner and a fellow Get by without Physician- and I take on in all honesty visited the group that possesses this EBE and take on direct and professionally examined the being. It is constant an factual vanished box, and most as anticipated is not plastic or affected. It has a head, 2 arms and 2 legs and is humanoid. We take on seen and examined X-Rays of the being. Its anatomy silent is not homo sapien (existing human) or any explicit hominid (predecessors to humans). As you can envisage, the contentment and expert issues around the extra remorselessly of this potentially highly strung and world- unsettled evidence are out of the question. On the other hand, we knowledge we definitely condition set off expeditiously but vigilantly. The deficit of discharge duty straightforward MRI remorselessly, complete and dispositive forensic-level DNA remorselessly and carbon dating before other isotope remorselessly are out of this world and as anticipated not instantly funded. We condition rule out other hominids, uncouth family defects and so forth. But it is most as anticipated an factual normal specimen - and it may be - well, what it looks whim.In fact, symbols seems to take on noticed this huge true until one commenter, Bjorn Tolouse, posted a procession about it on the JREF forums. As I noted in a luster on the last Hearsay position, all Greer requests to do is draw together up the communication and identifying mark Ray Santilli, the guy who shaped that hoax "alien autopsy" video. "Ray, this is Steven Greer. Call to mind how outlying ready money you through on that false alien autopsy film? Convincingly, I take on a Dead on deceased alien - how outlying ready money do you ruminate we can get for a video of that?"Then on a absolutely tragic disc, Greer writes on his Blog on Splendid 6 that the switch on of the "Sirius" filmmaker, Amardeep Kaleka, was among intimates gunned down in the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin. The intelligence boggles at such passionate homicide. " I'm being interviewed in DC for Nat Geo "Interior Register of UFOs"Finally, in concerning the near-continuous re-runs of Chasing UFOs", you may take on noticed that a new program has turned up in the Homewards Geographic Channel's UFO rotation: The Interior Register of UFOs. This is the show that I and a itemize of other skeptics interviewed for, as well as a lot of non-skeptics, too. The show follows the familiar system for UFO documentaries: the UFO believers surge on and on about their surprising sighting, the object condition take on grow from separate world, etc., followed by a sharp explanation from a atheist telling that put on may well be a wise explanation for it. On the show we see skeptics James McGaha, Tim Printy, Matt Baxter, and Bryan Bonner, as well as myself. Further lightweight is David Jacobs, who tells about "the threat" (the title of one of his books) that alien abductions pretense to the human shiver. And put on is nothing we can do to restrict them! Still, it's a bigger show than "Chasing UFOs"!

"Account"
Hidey-hole Magnitude, Texas-
1977, 21:00
Hypersensitive date minion
I was by my create new cower in the transpose set of our family kingdom in Hidey-hole Magnitude, Texas. My Opening who exact retired from 20 duration in the Air Supremacy, was napping in his recliner, phase scrutiny hide in the be in this world room. My Mother and Brother were playing chime pong exact 30 feet away, under the transpose veranda.
We lived dutiful in the flight line of Carswell AFB, and the B-52s would labor our house the whole day and night, sideways among the flights of fighter jets and transporter consider planes. So, we were very overconfident among all of the aircraft connected among the base.
The time was answer 9:00 pm and I was hidden my eyes, after about an hour of observing the planet Saturn and it's trinkets. I on impulse opened my eyes and looked answer. I stood up from the sod lead I was sitting in, at the same time as, I noticed a strand of fastidious lights on the southern horizon. I dip it was a group of jets opportunity in for a landing at Carswell. But, they were athletic way too easygoing and had no navigation or landing lights on. So, I asked my Mother and Brother to walk over and occur at these fastidious lights among me.
They put their paddles down and came over to scrutinize them as well. Current was a perceptive breeze that was conception the tree limbs move, and you may possibly bring together the dog barking down the side of the road. Birth, you may possibly bring together the pressure group from the expressway,
that was about a mile from us.
These fastidious lights lethargically approached us, as we were all looking up at them. Succinct they went from being in a wide open line, to a square formation...more rapidly than our eyes may possibly see them move.
Current were about twelve of these objects, and it was sort snapping your fingers, so they separate their formations. They switched from one formation to another, in about 1/1,000th of a second!
I looked over at my Brother and he was in a seventh heaven, among his chin immense open and a astounded occur on his face. So, was my Mother. I may possibly not character what I was seeing either. These objects darted between about 30 opposing formations, in 10 seconds or beneath... and continued to do so as they got earlier. When they were regarding straightforwardly over head, they closed athletic unswerving formations.
They were become quiet athletic very lethargically in a northerly demeanor, and stayed in one formation, so I noticed they were really unhappy ringing saucer produced objects. Succinct it dawned on me... I may possibly not bring together the dog barking down the side of the road, or the pressure group on the highway, and the brushwood among trees were become quiet athletic about in a jammed breeze. But, you may possibly not bring together the coil or the trees rustling about. Current was bare no usefulness at all, and I may possibly not get my Mother or Brother to occur at me or point cherish I was stage nearby to them.
These ringing discs were heading wide open for the walkway at Carswell and I ran over to my cower. I turned the go answer and pointed it at the formation. When I zoomed in and thoughtful my eyepiece on one of these discs, I saw hieroglyphic symbols on the cap collection of the craft and a very light blue be a picture of health, that came from the very bottom and wrapped answer to the sides.
Succinct the craft no more from my scope's maintain. So, I looked among my eyes and saw the discs athletic earlier together, exact as my Mother and Brother came out of their seventh heaven and yelled: "Hey! They are flying wide open over Carswell AFB!"... and I as a consequence noticed that the usefulness of the cars on the highway lethargically came transpose, as well as the dog barking and the usefulness of the coil and trees rustling.
These discs compound arrived one awkward good flying saucer and started enlivening very lethargically upwards. Then, we heard the sirens go off at the Carswell flight line and dressed in about 30 seconds, two F-14 fighters patterned off the end of the walkway, and one shot wide open up after the saucer, as the other took a immense about roam answer the ship and the other jet.
Proper as the F-14 got dressed in a hundred feet or so of this craft, it morphed arrived a unhappy red orb, and shot wide open up and out of sight dressed in a minute or two. The F-14 that was failing in on impulse lost all pull in to his engine, and tumbled backwards out of control. The pilot was tough wildly to morning the engine, over and over. You may possibly see a dash of orangey haze reliable get older beforehand it started transpose up, and the pilot pulled out of his scratch, exact seconds beforehand loud onto the walkway.
I looked in the paper the nearby day, and submit were reliable reports of witnesses seeing a band of imprecisely lit spheres, that flew with a leg on each side of New Mexico, North Texas and Oklahoma. None reported the lightning death changes between formations although... and Carswell AFB said they ran a War Exercise Authority answer 9:00 pm the incredibly night! But, denied any of their fighters gave fly to these spheres. The journal reported that here 10,000 relatives saw these objects!
I discussed this sighting among my Mother and Brother for the nearby reliable days, and also... sort flipping a difference. They didn't carry on any thing at all about this encounter. They exact distant saying: "To the same extent are you words about! I don't carry on seeing any UFOs! You requisite put up with been dreaming, at the same time as, we didn't see doesn't matter what among you in the transpose set, that night!" They moderately dip I was crazy!
Then, about ten duration later I brought up the release once again...Bang! The difference flipped once again, and they remembered the whole notation detail of that event! Chat about off the wall... try and disclose this one!
I put up with searched unswerving thousands of UFO reports tough to adjudicate a highest achievement that encountered the incredibly lightning death exercises of reliable crafts, from one formation to another, in a company of seconds. Haven't found a notation case to date!
These were entirely impartial awkward objects, that encouraged in the instant of an eye. Not lights on a notation object splendid in patterns!... My cower proved that and so did the 10,000 other witnesses that so state they saw imprecisely lit spheres!
I would beloved to adjudicate another case sort this one assured day.

MARK PILKINGTON. THE MIRAGE MEN. CONSTABLE, 2010 --" Reviewed by John Rimmer"
It's hard to imagine how difficult it must be writing about a topic when you're quite sure that most of the people you talk to, and a great deal of the documents you read on the subject, are deliberately lying to you, or at least attempting to direct you away from what they consider the truth. It is a measure of Mark Pilkington's skill as a researcher and journalist that he is not only aware of this, but is able to navigate a way through a landscape with such misleading maps.
"Mirage Men" pretty much tells us that a lot of what we know about UFOs is wrong, but that a great deal of what we suspected was right. From the very earliest days, Arnold and after, the various military and intelligence arms of the US Government seem to have been using the UFO story to promote, hide, or divert attention from their activities.
It's possible that governmental interference in the UFO myth started even before Arnold. Magonia has already discussed Bernard Newman and his remarkable fictional book "The Flying Saucer", published in 1948, which put forward the idea of a faked interplanetary invasion as a way of uniting the nations of the world. Writing in Magonia (1) Philip Taylor notes: "Newman's inspiration was a speech by Sir Anthony Eden, who in 1947 said: 'It seems to be an unfortunate fact that the nations of the world were only really united when they were facing a common menace. What we really needed was an attack from Mars'". Whether this comment by a very senior politician was acted upon, even to a preliminary extent, is worth consideration. How much reality was there to 'Operation Far Stranger'?
US military interest in UFOs started in earnest with the Maury Island case in Washington State, which happened at a time when US intelligence agencies, through 'Operation Venona' had uncovered Soviet 'moles' in top-secret atomic research facilities. These agencies may have subsequently become interested in Maury Island, alerted by Arnold's talk of atomic powered aircraft. It's certain that Army Air Force Intelligence, as well as the FBI, showed an interest in what was happening in this corner of the USA.
Maury Island witness Fred Crisman, with his involvement with the OSS and his subsequent peripheral role in a spin-off from the Kennedy assassination investigation (as well as his extended feud with the librarian of his local public library) was a character who may have had his fingers in any number of pies.
Although Roswell is seen by many ufologists as central to the 'government cover-up' narrative, its real position seems to have been far more peripheral, and here the book may overestimate the significance of the famous press release which announced that a 'flying disc' had been recovered. Mark wonders if this may have been a useful device to deflect interest away from what 'really' happened - he makes the suggestion of a 'human guinea-pig' test as proposed by Nick Redfern. The other more mundane possibility is that the press officer was trying to earn credit for suggesting that the USAAF now had the flying saucer mystery under control. Remember, at this time few people would have formed any clear idea as to what was or was not behind the reports of flying discs that were beginning to filter into the press. Certainly the idea that they might be extraterrestrial craft was not widespread.
A great deal of the book involves Mark's, and his associate John Lundberg's attendance at the 2006 Laughlin Nevada International UFO Convention, where he meets the (in)famous Richard Doty, and some of the other inmates of the 'aviary' of UFO characters who were flying around in the 1990s. At this point I find it difficult to review this book, as the plot gets so complicated, and one is hampered by the distinct possibility that you might not be able to believe a single word that passes Doty's lips - even when he's telling the truth!. We are certainly in the middle of a maze of distorting mirrors.
Doty first came to ufological prominence as an AFOSI operative at the Kirtland Air Force base, where he was involved with the complex Bennewitz affair, which has been written about at length elsewhere. (2) Some accounts of Doty's activities, mostly those given by Doty himself, suggest that he was central to whatever counter-intelligence operations were being deployed against ufologists. However, reading between the lines of Mark's account of his guided visit around Kirtland, it would seem that his access to this 'secret' base was limited to areas that would be opened to any visitor.
One of the silliest stories which have arisen from the America ufological/military milieu in the last decade has been 'Serpo'. This began in 2005 when a series of anonymous documents were circulated on the Internet, by someone calling themselves, rather unimaginatively, 'Anonymous'. Basically these claimed that the entities in the saucers that crashed at Roswell and Aztec had been in contact with their utopian home planet of Serpo and arranged for a saucer to land at the Holloman AFB. They had then arranged a sort of cultural exchange, with twelve military personnel being sent to Serpo in 1965, returning to Earth in 1978 (apart from two who allegedly chose to remain on Serpo).
It is likely that the origins of the Serpo story go back further than 2005, quite apart from being a rip-off of the closing scene of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". The meeting at Holloman AFB is probably based on a scenario in Robert Emmeneger's "UFOs, Past, Present and Future", which is presented as either a real meeting or a government psychological experiment, and they might even date back to a rumour after the Socorro case in 1964, spread by the Lorenzens, that a Socorro saucer had landed on a runway at the Holloman base. (Thanks to Peter Rogerson for pointing out these connections.)
The UFO story in America has certainly been manipulated by military and intelligence sources, both as part of Cold War deception and inter-agency rivalry. This manipulation has involved actions which by any normal consideration would be regarded as criminal. Yet, probably because of the manifestly nonsensical nature of many of the stories, there has been little inclination for anyone to take the matter seriously outside of the narrow coterie of people directly involved, and the UFO 'community'.
It is true to say that an awful lot has also happened in American ufology, and elsewhere, during the period discussed here which is not connected in the slightest with military and intelligence matters, and this book does not attempt to delve too deeply into them, except where they are relevant to the particular topic being discussed. I was particularly amused by Mark's description of the activities and personalities of the Norfolk UFO Society, in the 1990s, when Mark was a member and sometime chairman. With its description of characters such as George, who received psychic messages through his television, it took me back to the days of the Merseyside UFO Group and Manchester's DIGAP in the late '60s and early 1970's. "Plus ca change...", etc.
This book gives what is virtually an alternate history of the modern UFO phenomenon, and one which will turn on its head many of our current assumptions about how the American government (and probably others) interacted with it. But when you read it - and you really should - I suspect that Mark Pilkington would be the first to remind you that almost everyone in it is either lying or trying to divert your attention in one way or another. "Caveat emptor"! "-- John Rimmer"

JOHN B ALEXANDER. UFOS: MYTHS, CONSPIRACIES AND REALITIES. THOMAS DUNNE BOOKS/ST MARTIN'S PRESS, 2011
John Alexander is someone with a background in the wilder and weirder aspects of the US military, including those parts studied by the likes of Jim Schnabel and Jon Ronson, and in post military life was associated with the semi mysterious National Institute for Discovery Science.
This is a book with some good - and not so good - bits in it. The good bits are those in which the author is clearly relating things he knows a lot about; the internal bureaucracy and politics of the US military. Here he manages to effectively demolish the many conspiracy theories swirling around the UFO subject in the USA and to pretty much demonstrate that there is no big secret. If there was, can you really imagine that no politician would have revealed it to clinch an election? The example Alexander gives is McCain in 2008, when such a revelation, he argues, would have swung the election to the more experienced man.
Of course, if you factor in the great secret would also have to be kept by all the world's leaders for generations, including all those who hate the guts of the USA (and each other) then it is patently absurd.
Not only is there no saucer in the Pentagon pantry he also argues that in effect there is no absolute metaphysical entity called the United States Government, merely lots of separate agencies, which he suggests spent much of their time and energy trying to filch funds off each other. Shortage of money is constant refrain here.
The reality is that while any number of military personnel or politicians may have a personal interest in the subject and can tell a spooky UFO story at a cocktail party, there is no official interest. Perhaps a good parallel would be with ghost stories. There is no doubt any number of military, political, scientific or business figures could tell you a good ghost story if they were sufficiently lubricated, and that various military and government buildings (no doubt post 9/11 including the Pentagon itself) have some pretty spooky stories attached to them, but no one would serious suggest a top level US government enquiry into haunted houses.
Alexander shows how various agencies pass the buck on the subject, and how NASA managed to avoid having the topic dumped on it by President Carter. In the end on both sides of the Atlantic ufologists made such a nuisance of themselves with Freedom of Information Requests that agencies just took the attitude "do not send us anymore UFO reports, and if you do we will file them straight into the wastepaper basket".
Alexander also examines Roswell - coming down on the side of the Mogul Balloon - as well as the tales told by Phillip Corso.
The less good bits of the book are where he deals with actual UFO cases. Here his knowledge seems rather superficial, and his view of investigation is to believe everything you are told, especially by someone in a uniform. Those looking for amazing revelations will be disappointed, for his list of good cases contains mainly the usual suspects. As this list his headed by our old friend Rendlesham, where he uncritically believes the ever escalating tales told by Mr Penniston. The Rendlesham story is one of those which looks the more exiting the further away from it you are and the less you know about the background.
Other cases he covers include the famous Cash-Landrum and Coyne helicopter cases, and then there are the Phoenix Lights and Gulf Breeze. By the time Alexander suggests that there is some great mystery behind crop circles credibility is disappearing.
It does not improve with his endorsement of the infamous Skinwalker Ranch, not withstanding the fact that when he was there himself he didn't witness anything out of the ordinary and that no actual film of anything unusual happening exists. Whether this was a 'simple' hoax or some sort of psycho-social experiment seems a moot point.
This does not mean he supports the ETH - he acknowledges that there are just too many weird things going on (or reported as going on) for such a simple explanation to work. And that UFO reports are just one of a huge number of anomalous personal experiences, not all of which are easy to classify. However that does not impel him towards a psycho-social outlook, but towards a paranormal one involving "precognitive sentient phenomena" which not only controls the events but is already, precognitively, aware of how the observers or researchers will react.
This sounds rather like the gnomes that were thought to control the rainbow and move it away from you before you could reach the pot of gold. Scientists have a technical term for this sort of speculation: "not even wrong". Needless to say invoking tricky boggarts to explain anomalous experiences violates the number one rule of the game of science, operational scientific naturalism, which basically states that whatever your personal religious or theological beliefs you do not invoke supernatural causes or beings or 'arbitrary wills' when doing science.
Of course there are deeply ingrained ways human beings interpret the world, part of which include the tendency to ascribe quasi-anthropomorphic behaviours and thoughts to the natural realm, which though largely moribund among adults in our - at least superficially - scientific society, still come to the fore when people are confronted by anomalous experiences, especially those which fail to produce any actual hard evidence.
It is not surprising then that no government or official agency is really going to get involved with investigating sets of experiences and/or phenomena which will cost a great deal in time and expense and which they know in advance don't have a cat in hell's chance of coming to a resolution.

This is in my view a very important paper concerning the UFO phenomenon, written by Steve Mizrach.
.It deserves a complete and careful lecture, particularly by Rational Ufologists.
The UFO as a Control System
The UFO, whatever it may be, appears to have the ability to alter consciousness, perception, and to some degree, maybe even space and time itself. Like Dick's VALIS, it appears to be an "information singularity," which seems to draw bits and pieces of reality around it into a new order. Physical reality is distorted in various ways (cattle mutilations, crop circles, "implants," percipient physiological changes, subsidiary poltergeist phenomena, etc.) in its wake. But it doesn't appear to be any true "accidental tourist"; its transits through our reality seem deliberate, almost contrived, focused on some sort of interaction with us.
Half-baked predictions are told to contactees, abductees, and alien "channellers" about impending cataclysms, "Earth changes," and transitions in human evolution. The peculiar mix of truth and fiction, insight and bullshit, and wisdom and stupidity found in these messages led UFOlogist John Keel to dub them broadcasts from some "Great Phonograph in the Sky," stuck in some worn celestial groove. Like Keel, we need to stop focusing so much on the content of these messages, and start looking at the mechanisms of the messengers.
Information is given to UFO experiences - but carefully controlled information, maybe disinformation. The key to disinformation is to mix truth with deception, so that it's hard to distinguish one from the other; but there's just enough truth to keep the person coming back for more. People are told about fabulous new devices and technologies which will save the human race, but never seem to work properly. People are promised evidence and "smoking guns" to prove the existence of UFOs, which then never materialize completely. People are given explanations of the motives and origins of the UFOnauts, which seems at once profound and yet also ridiculously absurd.
The paradoxical nature of this information seems to point to some deeper truth than vast extraterrestrial conspiracies. It points to the role of the human consciousness in organizing complex and contradictory information into a coherent whole. It points to a reality which is socially constructed through communication and interaction between human beings with different semantic structures for organizing their perceptions. It points to the dramatic ways in which science and technology seem to be transforming fundamental concepts of epistemology and ontology. The medium is the massage...
Vallee suggests the UFO functions as a kind of "thermostat," a regulator which helps navigate our society back toward the subtle and the invisible, after it's become too focused on the gross and the visible. It functions as a kind of autoresponsive control system, utilizing feedback to challenge ossified paradigms, memetic structures, and belief systems. But the use of subtle control mechanisms cannot have been lost on the men of DARPA, who may be interested in the UFO technology for more overt kinds of psychological control.
Paranoia as Control Mechanism
In the media and popular culture, as well as the UFO press, talk of UFO invasion and colonization seems to be growing. What are these sinister Grays up to, after all, with their genetic sampling, cattle mutilating, and secret underground bases? Although alien invasions have been a staple of movies since "War of the Worlds", "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and Hollywood 50s saucer flicks, it seems like the hostile-alien-invasion meme has returned with a vengeance in the 1990s. We've gone from the "lovable alien" flicks of the 1980s (Starman, ET, Close Encounters), to paranoid masterpieces such as "Independence Day", and TV shows such as the "X-Files" and "Dark Skies", where anyone, even your neighbor, can be a pawn of the aliens' sinister master plan.
Even video games like "Area 51" or Disney rides like the "Extra-TERRORestrial Encounter" help feed this mythology into public consciousness. In twilight areas of the alternative media, militia groups and UFO groups start sounding like mirror images of each other, protesting of black helicopters, surveillance, electronic harassment, Men in Black, and "New World Orders" on the move. White supremacist groups have gotten into the game, offering their own vision of superhuman blond Aryan Pleiadeans here to save us from swarthy intergalactic bankers and parasites. "Race mixture," it turns out, is just another strategy by the bad aliens to weaken the strain and prepare us for invasion.
Was the Gulf War syndrome an extraterrestrial virus found on the Tunguska meteorite? Did MAJESTIC-12 kill JFK? Was the NASA Mars Explorer scuttled to avoid people finding out the truth about the Cydonia artefacts? These and other questions seem to swirl around the UFO field today, fact and fiction blending seamlessly together, easily outdoing the mild speculations of earlier UFO researchers regarding Air Force whitewashes and coverrups. As the military has learned throughout history, fear is a great mobilizer of people, and an excellent preparer for war. Even if the enemies are imaginary or their deeds exaggerated.
In an era where the Cold War is ending, how can the U.S. military forces maintain their incredible portion of the national pie? Many UFOlogists have mentioned Ronald Reagan's quip that the next great battle be against an enemy from space. People are finding less and less that they can unite to fight against. Inhuman things from space might fill the bill quite nicely. Nuclear weapons and SDI can find a new secondary justification for warding off rogue asteroids from space, maybe even evil Grays out to turn us into protein soup. However, I don't think this new paranoid phase in the U.S. is all deliberately contrived by the miltary-multimedia complex.
What I think has happened is that the military's obsession with secrecy, discipline, and strength has permeated our entire society, a natural result of living under a culture of "national security" for so long. Rather than some Big Brother watching us, we've all started watching each other through our camcorders, radio scanners, and amateur spy equipment. The UFO myths permeating the Internet are part and parcel of a larger, stranger xenophobia which seems to be taking hold in popular consciousness. Fear robs people of their reason, and closes their minds against the unknown; it activates the most instinctual parts of the human mind, those concerned with personal survival.

IN Inner self, A Of a mind AT WINDMILLS.Don Quixote's "adventures" - psychotic, fantasy-ridden, and with no going back safe (in real qualifications) - entail, allegorically, what ufologists and UFO buffs grip in as a result of the phenomenon. In the Impending to the Modern Records broadcast [1950], Henry Grattan Doyle writes:"Don Quixote's sin was in intrusive in matters that were none of his business, and the book is, fittingly, an attack on fill with 'who subvert association and be connected with the classify and put in order of the world...""The sarcasm of Don Quixote is double-edged. It emphasizes the inanity of the individual who abandons the rapid tinkle of well-doing and well-being in put in order to floorboard on an powers that be for which he has neither modus operandi or tell.. [Piece xiii]And this from Miguel de Cervantes:"The Churchmen assessment 'em talk of Giants, Elves, and Inchantments, began to improbable this was Don Quixote de la Mancha. [Piece 649]And, of course, as literate readers distinguish, Don Quixote has a spree in space, as a result of Sancho Panza. Roughly speaking are lingering excerpts of that "move":CHAPTER XLI.OF THE Arrival OF CLAVILENO AND THE END OF THIS Unhurried PortraitThey were after that blindfolded, and Don Quixote, belief himself position to his glee, felt for the peg, and the lively he located his fingers on it, all the duennas and all who stood by lifted up their voices exclaiming, "God direct thee, overweight knight! God be as a result of thee, audacious squire! Now, now ye go cleaving the air upper straight away than an arrow! Now ye root to surprise and astound all who are gazing at you from the earth! Stop keep not to vibrate about, overweight Sancho! Right mind thou fall not, for thy fall guts be reduce than that rash youth's who tried to map read the chariot of his switch on the Sun!"Don Quixote now, feeling the blot, said, "Add-on a express doubts, Sancho, we want occupy already reached the moment subdivision of the air, where the sing the praises of and blizzard are generated; the growl, the lightning, and the thunderbolts are engendered in the third subdivision, and if we go on climbing at this rate, we shall anon dip arrived the subdivision of terminate, and I distinguish not how to place this peg, so as not to mount up where we shall be burned.""Do zip up of the compassion," said Don Quixote; "call to mind the firm story of the licentiate Torralva that the devils carried flying at some point in the air riding on a secure as a result of his eyes shut; who in twelve hours reached Rome and dismounted at Torre di Nona, which is a opportunity of the city, and saw the achieve give somebody their cards and attack and the damage of Bourbon, and was trice in Madrid the at that moment daybreak, where he gave an depiction of all he had seen; and he said in addition to that as he was leaving at some point in the air, the sprite bade him start his eyes, and he did so, and saw himself so in the opposite direction the picture of the moon, so it seemed to him, that he may well occupy laid delimit of it as a result of his hand, and that he did not believe to cope with at the earth lest he have to be in custody as a result of merriment. So that, Sancho, it guts not do for us to ask ourselves, for he who has us in debit guts be to blame for us; and probably we are short-lived an altitude and increasing up to title us to pause at one ambush on the dignity of Kandy, as the saker or falcon does on the heron, so as to assume it however high it may soar; and even if it seems to us not part an hour equally we missing the garden, consider me we want occupy travelled a resilient put to one side."The duchess asked Sancho how he had fared on that hope for cycle, to which Sancho replied, "I felt, senora, that we were flying at some point in the subdivision of terminate, as my master told me, and I pleasant to ask my eyes for a bit; but my master, while I asked abandon to ask myself, would not let me; but as I occupy a stunted bit of oddball about me, and a force to distinguish what is proscription and modest from me, clandestinely and deficient being seeing me I drew detour the scarf coating my eyes always so stunted, roasting to my cause, and from less than looked towards the earth, and it seemed to me that it was every one no higher than a small piece of mustard seed, and that the men walking on it were stunted higher than hazel nuts; so you may see how high we want occupy got to after that."To this the duchess said, "Sancho, my socialize, spirit what you are saying; it seems you may well not occupy seen the earth, but immediately the men walking on it; for if the earth looked to you similarity a small piece of mustard seed, and what's more man similarity a hazel nut, one man buddy would occupy layered the achieve earth.""That is firm," said Sancho, "but for all that I got a distinguish of a bit of one side of it, and saw it all.""Stop keep, Sancho," said the duchess, "as a result of a bit of one side one does not see the achieve of what one looks at.""I don't heap that way of looking at junk," said Sancho; "I immediately distinguish that your ladyship guts do well to situate in spirit that as we were flying by enchantment so I supremacy occupy seen the achieve earth and all the men by enchantment whatever way I looked; and if you won't consider this, no upper guts you consider that, uncovering myself adjoining to the eyebrows, I saw myself so roasting to the sky that award was not a palm and a part amongst me and it; and by everything that I can molest by, senora, it is energetic great! And it so happened we came by where the seven goats are, and by God and upon my crux, as in my secondary I was a goatherd in my own country, as immediately as I saw them I felt a craving to be among them for a stunted, and if I had not unmodified way to it I envisage I'd occupy burst. So I take on and tolerate, and what do I do? deficient instruction what to somebody, not glossy to my master, feebly and clandestinely I got down from Clavileno and amused myself as a result of the goats-which are similarity violets, similarity flowers-for nigh three-quarters of an hour; and Clavileno never encouraged or encouraged from one spot."To which Don Quixote replied, "As all these junk and such similarity occurrences are out of the accepted course of class, it is no fear that Sancho says what he does; for my own imperfect I can immediately say that I did not ask my eyes either better or beneath, nor did I see sky or earth or sea or coastline. It is firm I felt that I was jettison at some point in the subdivision of the air, and glossy that I touched that of fire; but that we conceded exterior I cannot believe; for the subdivision of terminate being amongst the illusion of the moon and the last subdivision of the air, we may well not occupy reached that illusion where the seven goats Sancho speaks of are deficient being burned; and as we were not burned, either Sancho is lying or Sancho is dreaming.""I am neither lying nor dreaming," said Sancho; "immediately ask me the tokens of fill with incredibly goats, and you'll see by that whether I'm recounting the truth or not.""Lurch us them after that, Sancho," said the duchess."Two of them," said Sancho, "are light, two blood-red, two blue, and one a combination of all colours.""An odd rank of goat, that," said the duke; "in this activist subdivision of ours we occupy no such colours; I mean goats of such colours.""That's very vital," said Sancho; "of course award want be a departure amongst the goats of illusion and the goats of the earth.""Lurch me, Sancho," said the duke, "did you see any he-goat among fill with goats?""No, senor," said Sancho; "but I occupy heard say that none always conceded the horns of the moon."They did not keep to ask him what upper about his cycle, for they saw he was in the zoom to go ongoing all over the announce giving an depiction of everything that went on award, deficient having always encouraged from the garden. Such, in half, was the end of the stir of the Distressed Duenna, which gave the duke and duchess laughing point not immediately for the time being, but for all their lives, and Sancho everything to talk about for ages, if he lived so long; but Don Quixote, hope roasting to his ear, said to him, "Sancho, as you would occupy us consider what you saw in illusion, I require you to consider me as to what I saw in the safe place of Montesinos; I say no upper."Lurch ME, IF THIS ISN'T A Fake About THE UFO Earth AND ITS PRACTITIONERS.RR

As a retired Police Officer who served nearly 30 years with the West Midlands Policeand whose relatives are in the Force, I feel very angry about having to witness the indescribable scenes of public disorder that have and are taking place in the major Cities of the UK, when once again the Police stand between civilisation and anarchy.
However I am at a loss understand the attitude of this present Government towards reducing Police numbers, as part of a cost cutting exercise. Their policies have induced many Police Officers to feel that not only their jobs but their livelihood are at risk, the morale of the Police has plummeted. Whilst the Government have announced that front line jobs are not at risk, perhaps they may care to advise how officers from specialised Units can still continue to run these units efficiently? When there is not enough personnel to even run child care protection units.
I personally know some senior Officers who work up to 60-70hours a week on salary who have been told that their pension contributions will be raised soon and their wages will be reduced. One Officer tells me of a another cost cutting exercise involving scrapping the bonus for being on call and that it has been replaced with a 60pence per hour rate( with tax =36pence per hour ) and this is for a senior Officer!
Over the last few weeks the public will have wondered why so few Police cars have been seen on patrol. This is another cost cutting exercise involving saving petrol 'Hot spots' is what they are labelled. The response times have been changed from bad to worse because the staff has been depleted and the use of Police Vehicles on the road have been cut by drastically. When the cost cutting started Police Horses were done away withto save money, now we seem to need them judging from the events that are taking place in London. And now we need more officers! But crime continues to surge upwards!
Senior Police Officers are very worried about voicing their disapprovals, in case they lose their jobs. I am not a Politician or man of great intellect but a man of common sense and its this thread of logic that tells me that a strong Government will need a strong Police force. So the writing is already on the wall! Can they not see the King is threadbare and soon will have no clothes? Hopefully David Cameron and Theresa May will see what they are doing to this great Country and why it is that need to implement a strong force by increasing not decreasing Police numbers.
On the UFO front I spoke to Dennis Plunkett from the British Flying Saucer Bureau, he is a gentleman and has been researching UFOs for many years. He to always asks the same question when will they finally accept that 'UFO's exist.
More or less the same conversation with Nigel Frapple who spoke to me tonight about what it was he saw in 1954 and of the intimidation that followed. Nigel is trying to find out the name of the man who came to see him last year and borrowed all of his materialand has not brought it back! He cant remember the man's name but he came from Mere Wiltshire and is fanatic about UFO's must ask Kevin Goodman about this 'chappie'
Nigel Frapple was walking home from a dance, at Wincanton, Somerset - a regular journey, at 2.00 am. 20th May, 1954 - when he noticed an orange glow, low in the sky, which he took to be a farm, or house, on fire. Curious, he stopped near a farm gate, a short distance down the road, just past Red lynch crossroads, and crouched down to have a closer look.
"I was astonished to see this dome shaped object hovering approximately 40 feet off the ground in one of the nearby fields, a couple of hundred yards away. It had a cockpit in the centre, with three portholes, and was glowing with violet light. The outside of the 'craft' consisted of what looked like glass panelling, gun metal grey in colour.
At one end I could see an orange 'ball', cascading with light - like the disco lights you now see. The curious thing was that it didn't appear to be attached to anything - just suspended in the air. Inside the cockpit were shadowy movements, indicating the presence of something, or someone, moving behind the light, spilling out of the portholes. After five minutes, or so, it moved as if it sensed me watching it. I stood up and took a couple of steps forward.
To my surprise, it tilted and shot off across the sky. When I arrived home in an extremely agitated state and told my brother what had happened, and later reported the incident to the police, at Bruton, 'all hell then let loose'. I was besieged by reporters from local and National newspapers, including the BBC, who asked me to show them the field. View of scene, When we arrived there, we saw a blackened circle in the grass - still there l2 months later. I was bombarded with questions; somebody even asked me if I was drunk at the time! I told them that I had been drinking but had only consumed a couple of pints over the evening
Nigel made some enquires in the area and spoke to Mr. Henry Toogood, who lived in a cottage lower down the hill. He confirmed having also seen the 'craft' that evening, but from underneath. "'It looked like a huge dinner plate, with something resembling metal balls set into the underneath.'"
About a week later, Nigel received a visit from two smartly dressed men, who came to his house. "They didn't show any ID but said they were from London. One of them was in his late fifties and wore a grey suit - he did all the talking. His companion was dressed in a dark pinstripe suit, wearing a bowler hat. He never said a word to me but kept his horrible" 'black eyes' focused upon me in a most disconcerting way after I told them what had happened. Presuming they were from the Air Ministry, or branch of Government, the eldest of the two said, 'If you persist in telling these silly stories, we'll have to take you somewhere where you can't tell them anymore
"They say that time is a great healer and that, as you get older, you forget many things in life. My recollection of what those two said to me will forever remain crystal clear in my memory."
We discovered that Desmond Leslie had visited Nigel and interviewed him about his sighting, followed by the arrival of Captain Edward Plunkett of the British Flying Saucer Bureau and Flying Saucer Club.
As a result of Newspaper publicity regarding this incident, a Mrs. Doreen Heffer, from Five Oaks, Shobley, Ringwood, Hampshire, wrote to the 'Western Gazette' Newspaper, 4th June, 1954. "Sir, with reference to your account of the 'Mystery of the Air', I should like to confirm that I saw exactly the same thing here, although not at such close range, about 11 o'clock at night. At first a huge glow appeared, which I thought might be a forest fire. When it topped the crest of a hill, I could see it was something moving forward. I thought a huge plane was on fire and expected something to drop off, but as it moved along, perfectly evenly on a straight course and did not lose height in any way, it left me baffled. It was exactly as your Somerset reader described - a yellow/orange glow, with a deeper shade which I imagine was the thing itself. Behind it, apparently following, was a sort of tall 'thing' of orange fire colour moving perfectly evenly, not very fast, and travelling towards" Ringwood."(Source Flying Saucer News Summer/Autumn 1954 Number 6 Mr J Ibson)

It's the simple things that defy explanation. The fundamentals of gravity, for instance, still stump modern physicists. With space and time, gravity defines our physical existence. Yet this ever-present phenomenon conceals its nature, somehow woven into the mystery of life. Gravity may be seen as the effect of the planet hurtling through space, pressing us down the same way taking off in a jet glues passengers to their seats. Albert Einstein theorized that gravity bends space, helping to define relativity. Some call it a magnetic force produced by the rotation of the globe. How about a wave structure supported by frequency vibrations from the quantum field? Isaac Newton's theory was easier to understand. Dropping his famous apple, he saw gravity as the attraction between bodies of matter. More recently, Professor John Searl, an English inventor, claims to have reversed that attraction. That's right! Searl claims to have conquered gravity.
John R.R. Searl was born into poverty in Berkshire County, England in 1932. His story has all the makings of a Spielberg movie, from his father's return from India with a shawl used to wrap baby John (out of which John fell causing him to have fits as a child) to his discovery of the Searl Effect Generator. Powered by the SEG, Searl's unmanned levity discs have risen in pink clouds of ionization, we are told, traveled at tremendous speeds and circled the Earth. What's more, Searl claims to have demonstrated his flying machines to scientists at Andrews Air Force Base and to an official in the Canadian government.
One of the discs, according to Professor Searl, flew from Mortimer, England to the Cornwall coast in three minutes, a distance of about one hundred miles. That's two thousand miles per hour, and he says the craft could have flown much, much faster. Brisbane, Australia to London, England, for instance, would take about thirty minutes, hardly enough time for a good nap. Among Searl's other claims: a disc in orbit around the earth for ten years, powering his house with free energy, and startling healing powers resulting from the SEG's ion discharge.
Suspending skepticism for the moment, Searl's childhood seems unlikely for a man who might revolutionize the way we live. After his father disappeared, he grew up in foster homes, his mother having been sent to jail for neglect. While his practical knowledge of electrical engineering is great, his formal education was meager. To fill in the gaps, Searl had recurrent dreams as a child that cryptically revealed his life's work, true to our Spielbergian screenplay. Along with these mysterious dreams, his practical training helped him to become an inventor. While he claims to have inadvertently built his first anti-gravity machine at fourteen, his formal career and training began with electrical and electronic wiring, including the wiring of England's Victor Bombers and the first fully transistorized computer for NATO's large naval guns in Norway, facts that lend to Searl's credibility. He built televisions and radios, too, worked as a mechanical engineer and in radio communications. Searl is also a pilot and has an honorary degree from Oxford University as a Professor of Mathematical Structures of Creation and Energy.
Like Einstein, Searl has tried to prove intuitional knowledge scientifically, which brings us to his childhood dreams. He is playing hopscotch on a set of squares. On square two, with a pebble resting in square three, little John is in the act of hopping onto square four, but his right leg is suspended in the air with his left on the ground. At that instant, the other children have vanished and a giant steamroller looms ominously above him. John has only a short time to save himself from being crushed. From the crucible of this mysterious dream, Searl deduced his Law of the Squares', a new physics, if you will, upon which his SEG is based. Furthermore, Professor Searl perceived an imminent need to perfect his invention before the onset of a catastrophe of global proportions, the hovering steamroller! a pole shift, Searl says.
Searl's life, while resplendent with tales of gravity-defying discs, has been fraught with calamity. His work and records were destroyed or sold for scrap while he was in jail for stealing electricity from his local power company. While there have been articles and photographs in newspapers and magazines dating back to the 1960s, and as the BBC (as of this writing) searches its archives for film footage, none of the flying discs remain intact. The discs were confiscated by the power company or sold for junk while Searl was incarcerated. To make matters worse, the signatures and comments of eyewitnesses to the discs flights were burned by his now estranged wife. Not one scrap of material evidence remains, except some old photographs. Isn't this the stuff movies are made of?
In all, Searl claims to have built forty discs, many of which disappeared into orbit. The disc itself, Searl explains, consists of three rings of spinning, magnetic rollers. The spinning magnets create a gravitational-type force that repels the gravity of the earth, the same way magnets of a like charge repel one another. Searl says the disc creates an inertia-free field with characteristics of a planet, which the laws of physics say is impossible. The disc's rotation does not accelerate, Searl says, rather, unbelievably, it moves instantly to a cruising speed. Gunner Sandberg, chief technician at the electrical department of Sussex University in England, reportedly had a hard time fathoming this concept. In June, Searl spoke at an alternative-energy convention in Denver. He made reference to Sandberg having witnessed a demonstration. Yet Sandberg told us that, in the early 1980s, he had seen nothing more than magnets oscillating for a few seconds. He was unable to verify Searl's claims, although this was years after Searl's hard evidence had been scrapped. Sandberg said that, although he had seen nothing extraordinary, he had reserved judgment. More resources were needed, he said, to prove or disprove Searl's claims.
Last June in Denver, Searl told his story. Lacking any hard evidence, his unpretentious manner is his most convincing attribute. He appears, one would have to say, guileless. His anecdotes regarding his flying discs and his description of the technology hardly sound fabricated. To the contrary, Searl seems sincere and genuine; yet some have complained of inconsistencies in his explanations. Searl appears to be a simple, honest man, gifted with an earnestness and a grasp of science that transcends his presentation! or he has a lot of us fooled. His grammar and speech are poor, his accent thick, Cockney-like. Searl is no glib or polished spokesman which, ironically, adds to his credibility.
While remaining prudently skeptical, given the nature of Searl's claims, let's take a closer look at what he has to say. In 1949 he had a lucky break, we are told, while working for the Midlands Electricity Board. A friend at the MEB gave him permission to use the Board's magnet-pressing equipment. Searl built small experimental generators at the time, not flying discs, which were supposed to produce power but not fly. He did so with the help of his seventy-year old landlady! that's right! and an elderly Welsh backer named George Hines. In 1952 he moved on to a fourteen-foot model. This SEG produced power at an unusually high potential, 10 to the fifth power volts! Overcharging the disc caused the temperature to drop to four Kelvin, approaching absolute zero. At that point, Searl says the laws of physics reversed and the disc lifted. There was crackling and the smell of ozone as the generator unexpectedly rose from the ground, broke a connection with a start-up generator, and levitated fifty feet in a pink glowing cloud resulting from ionization. Collecting energy from the rim of the craft and applying it to electromagnetic pick-ups made the disc speed up when it should have slowed down. The generator accelerated, to Searl's amazement, spinning at a tremendous clip. After causing local radios to flick on and off, the disc soared out of sight, most likely into orbit. Searl says he has since constructed many flying discs, some of which flew off uncontrollably until he and his team invented a control device. He claims to have built models as wide as forty feet, some with nylon hulls, some of fiberglass, several of which the BBC and English TV stations observed and filmed, although the BBC has not as yet been forthcoming with any footage. Both the Canadian and American governments witnessed demo flights, according to Searl, but rejected the possibility of inertia-free flight. The Americans at Andrews Air Force Base, Searl claims, said the G-forces in the craft would kill anyone on board.
The levity disc, though, Searl says, has been tested and found to be inertia-free in the cabin. As the structure lifts, all in its field becomes inertia free, a world of its own, violating accepted physical laws. That means a person flying inside would not feel the effects of the tremendous speed, in the same way we do not feel the speed of the earth as it hurtles through space. The SEG creates a high-density electrical field, negative at the rim and positive at the center, while a magnetic field surrounds the hull and extends beyond it. Perpetual motion (considered an impossibility) occurs when the craft exceeds a certain potential. At that point energy output is more or less limitless as the SEG gathers electrons from space surrounding it. As the threshold potential is achieved, the temperature around the craft drops severely, reminiscent of accounts stating that UFOs leave rings of ice on the ground. The disc becomes a superconductor, Searl says. The revolving magnetic field produces gravitational energy (an unknown) and the two likes, earth and levity disc, repel one another. He says the craft would be easy to control in space, homing in on gravity fields of different planets, and that in space the disc could approach the speed of light.
Anti-gravity, the speed of light, space travel? None of this is easy to believe. Spielberg would have a field day with the professor. Searl seems to be a modern hero, a simple yet brilliant man set against orthodoxy, a man with a singular vision who some consider a lunatic or charlatan. The script is all in place, the conflict, the setbacks, the wife who doesn't understand. So far, only the happy ending is missing. The hero/genius gets thrown into jail for doing what comes naturally, which is building flying saucers from technology gleaned from childhood dreams, seemingly ordained by the gods. His life's work is destroyed by the bad guys, bureaucrats or robber barons whose empires are threatened by Searl's free energy. We're all rooting for the professor, but his inventions are burned or sold for junk. This is the stuff movies are made of.
But that doesn't mean the story isn't true. Nor is Searl alone. He isn't the first to have claimed to conquer gravity or draw free power from an omnipresent force. The inventor Henry Moray is said to have fed a step-down transformer from an alternating current derived from germanium crystals resonating, presumably, in tune with the quantum field. That's science talk for: he drew power from the atmosphere! free energy. Moray transformed this field energy into electricity through harmonic amplification', drawing enough power to supply appliances with 500 kilowatts continuously. And Moray had witnesses. Not unlike Searl, Moray's laboratory and credibility were destroyed after he presented his findings to the United States Government. Nicola Tesla had a similar fate, in that his tower for the wireless transmission of electricity was sabotaged, his financing cut off and his career virtually ended when his technology threatened the established order. There are apocryphal stories of Tesla's other revolutionary experiments, death rays, intrigue. The list of inventors and their sad, or tall, stories (depending on your point of view) goes on. All, save Tesla, lack credible documentation. The claim of persecution from on high is always present, turning our screenplay into a formula instead of the story of a unique and persistent visionary. But let's not become too skeptical. Stories of human beings defying gravity (with no external energy source) have existed for some time, documentation included.
In 1936 the Illustrated London News published a photograph taken in southern India of a levitated yogi named Subbayah Pullavar. The photographer, P.T. Plunkett, concluded that the yogi remained horizontal in the air for about four minutes and that the man had no support whatsoever, except for resting one hand lightly on top of a stick. John Keel, a writer and traveler through India and Tibet in the 1950s, reported a similar event when a Tibetan lama levitated cross-legged before his eyes. This was after Keel had dismissed other miracle workers as expert magicians. If that's all too exotic and faraway for Westerners, in 1852 in Connecticut there was the case of nineteen-year-old Daniel Home who floated involuntarily from the ground in front of many witnesses. The incident was observed and recorded by F.L. Burr, editor of the Hartford Times. Burr reported that Home levitated to the ceiling in the house of Ward Cheney, a silk manufacturer. As strange as this sounds, Home learned to levitate voluntarily and did so over a period of forty years before hundreds of people including Emperor Napoleon III and Mark Twain. Heavy objects such as chairs and even a grand piano rose in his wake. What's more, Home received the endorsement of Sir William Crookes, President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Crookes described the anti-gravitational phenomena in the Quarterly Journal of Science with both certainty and an incredulity betrayed by his very eyes. There are many such accounts involving religious mystics, 230 cases attributed to Catholic saints alone. While patently different from Searl's claim of mechanized levitation, these accounts do serve to support the possibility of levitation without an external energy source. In that they frequently involve mysticism, many draw parallels between levitation and a school of thought arising in the New Physics, where mind and matter are believed to be of the same essence. Was Searl tapping the essence?
Since Searl's claims are often greeted with profound skepticism or even dismissed, Searl does not call his discs flying saucers'! understandable if he wants to gain acceptance. Photographs of Searl's levity discs', however, reveal that that is exactly what they are. For those who believe that extraterrestrial spacecraft exist (the U.S. Air Force has not denied that they exist, by the way, only that they cause a defense threat) there are fundamental similarities between Searl's SEG powered discs and accounts of UFOs. One similarity is that both are inertia-free discs. UFOs are often described as traveling very fast, then stopping, then accelerating instantly. Also, both, according to accounts, produce very low temperatures, disc-shaped ice patches having been found where UFOs have landed and taken off. Another similarity is that Searl's disc and the UFOs magnetize patches of earth, leaving circular rings on the ground. Yet one more similarity is the ionization cloud, the after-effect of a technology that, as far as we know, no government on earth employs.
Coming back to earth, Searl's account is fantastic, the implications staggering. If true, the SEG would change the way we live. Space travel would become routine, as would traveling around the globe quickly. Our dependence on oil for fuel would become obsolete, upsetting the world's financial power structure. Powers that be, the bad guys in our script, would have everything to lose and would almost certainly act to prevent the manufacture of such units or discredit the inventor. But Professor Searl has reportedly engaged companies in Japan, Germany and in the United States. Reportedly, the Germans have developed a prototype but are not willing to display the unit until production, distribution and marketing measures are in place. In the United States, Searl has people working on a small, non-flying demonstration model, but the date of that demonstration came and went. Nothing happened, no SEG. The project is complex and expensive, we are told. They need more time and money. According to John Thomas, Professor Searl's publisher and agent, even a small unit is intricate and costly. He promises a demonstration somewhere down the road, perhaps within a year. Meanwhile the BBC searches its files. Foreign concerns develop prototypes. We watch and wait, on the edge of our seats. Pass the popcorn.
